# Statement of Purpose My name is Gaurav Khatiwada, and I am a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (BSc CSIT) graduate from the College of Applied Business and Technology, affiliated with Tribhuvan University, Nepal. I completed my bachelor's degree in 2025 with an overall academic score of 54.5%. Alongside my academic journey, I have gained approximately three years of professional experience in the field of information technology, particularly in DevOps and cloud-related technologies. With this combination of academic knowledge and practical experience, I have decided to pursue the Master of Information Technology at Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS), New Zealand, as the next step in my professional development. My interest in information technology began during my undergraduate studies. I joined the BSc CSIT program in 2017, where I was introduced to various areas of computing, including programming, database management, operating systems, software engineering, networking, artificial intelligence, information security, and other fundamental areas of computer science. These subjects helped me establish a foundation in technology and encouraged me to understand how different components of an IT environment work together. My undergraduate journey took longer than originally planned. I was initially expected to complete my degree in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the normal academic schedule and examination process. After completing the major academic requirements, I had some remaining back papers to clear, which further extended the completion of my degree. Rather than allowing this delay to stop my professional development, I decided to enter the IT industry while continuing to complete my remaining academic requirements. I started working professionally in 2023 and continued working alongside my academic responsibilities. I officially completed my BSc CSIT degree in 2025 with a score of 54.5%. This experience taught me persistence, time management, and the importance of continuing to work toward long-term goals despite unexpected delays. My professional experience since 2023 has been particularly important in shaping my future academic goals. I have been working at MSP Solution Pvt. Ltd. in the DevOps field, where I have gained practical exposure to cloud infrastructure, deployment, automation, system administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and other aspects of modern IT operations. Working with real-world systems has allowed me to understand how the theoretical concepts learned during my bachelor's degree are applied in professional environments. My experience in DevOps has also changed the way I look at information technology. Initially, I was primarily interested in learning individual technologies and tools. However, professional experience has shown me that successful IT systems require an understanding of the wider technology environment, including software development, infrastructure, cloud platforms, security, automation, databases, networking, and system reliability. I have also realized that progressing into senior technical and leadership positions requires broader knowledge and stronger analytical and problem-solving capabilities. This realization has become a major motivation for pursuing postgraduate education. I have therefore chosen the Master of Information Technology at Auckland Institute of Studies because it represents a natural progression from both my academic background and professional experience. My BSc CSIT provided me with fundamental knowledge in computing, while my professional experience has allowed me to develop practical skills in DevOps and cloud technologies. Through postgraduate study, I now want to broaden and deepen my understanding of information technology rather than limiting myself to one particular area. I believe that advanced study will help me connect my existing practical experience with more comprehensive theoretical and technical knowledge. New Zealand is my preferred study destination because I want to experience an internationally oriented academic environment while developing my professional capabilities. I value the opportunity to study alongside people from different backgrounds and gain exposure to different approaches to technology and problem-solving. I also believe that studying in a new academic environment will challenge me to become more independent, adaptable, and confident in applying my knowledge. My decision to study overseas is primarily driven by my academic and professional objectives and my desire to strengthen my capabilities in the field of information technology. I have selected Auckland as my study destination because it is a major centre for education, business, and technology in New Zealand. Being in a diverse and professionally active environment will complement my postgraduate studies and allow me to broaden my understanding of how information technology is used across different sectors. My primary focus, however, will remain on successfully completing my Master's degree and developing the knowledge and skills required for the next stage of my career. My professional goal is to continue building my career in information technology, particularly in DevOps, cloud computing, infrastructure automation, and related areas. In the short term, I want to strengthen my technical capabilities and take on more complex responsibilities in IT environments. In the longer term, I aim to progress into senior technical and leadership roles where I can contribute to designing, implementing, securing, and managing reliable technology infrastructure. I also want to use the combination of my postgraduate education and professional experience to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nepal's growing technology sector. The IT industry in Nepal continues to develop, and I see opportunities to bring back international academic exposure and professional practices that can be applied in the local technology environment. My financial support for my studies will be provided by my family, particularly my parents, who are prepared to support my education and living expenses. Their support gives me the opportunity to concentrate on my studies and complete my postgraduate education successfully. I understand the financial and academic responsibilities associated with studying overseas and have considered these factors carefully before making my decision. My wife is also an important part of my family circumstances, and her presence is part of my overall personal planning. However, my decision to pursue the Master of Information Technology is based on my own academic and professional objectives. My education and career development remain the central reasons for undertaking this Master's degree. Looking back at my journey from joining BSc CSIT in 2017 to gaining professional experience in DevOps from 2023, I believe each stage has contributed to my current goals. The delay in completing my bachelor's degree was not the end of my academic journey; instead, it taught me resilience while my professional experience gave me a clearer understanding of the direction I want to take. I now have both an academic foundation and practical industry exposure, and I believe this is the appropriate stage to build upon them through postgraduate education. I am applying for the Master of Information Technology at Auckland Institute of Studies with a clear purpose: to expand my knowledge, strengthen my technical and analytical capabilities, and prepare myself for greater professional responsibilities in the IT industry. I am confident that the program will complement my existing BSc CSIT background and DevOps experience and help me move toward my long-term career objectives. I am committed to approaching my studies with discipline, responsibility, and a genuine willingness to learn, and I look forward to making the most of this opportunity. is my sop best or improvement needed?
