.txt. Autosave on input debounce. - Agent capabilities: `notes.create(title, body)`, `notes.append(title, text)`, `notes.read(title)`, `notes.list()`, `notes.clearActive()` etc. - Agent typing animation: when agent writes, show a "OTTO is writing" state and stream characters. **3. Calculator** (`calc`) - Display + keypad (grid of buttons: 7 8 9 ÷ / 4 5 6 × / 1 2 3 − / 0 . = + / C ( ) ^ %). Use proper symbols ×÷−. Keyboard support when focused. - Expression parser (recursive descent). Show history of last results (small log line above display). - Agent: `calc.evaluate(expr)` returns result (observation). **4. Synth** (`synth`) - Track list (3 generative tracks), transport: play/pause/stop, tempo slider?, volume, a canvas visualizer (analyser node → waveform bars). Visualizer gives it life. - Tracks defined as patterns: arrays of steps with note frequencies; a scheduler using AudioContext lookahead scheduling. - Keep it compact: a step sequencer per track (16 steps), bass + lead + hat (noise burst). 3 presets: "NIGHT DRIVE" (darksynth arp), "SUNROOM" (warm ambient), "MACHINE HUM" (minimal techno). - Agent: `synth.play(trackName)`, `synth.stop()`, `synth.setVolume(0-100)`. - AudioContext must be created on first user gesture — fine, agent plays triggered by user command. **5. Files** (`files`) - Two-pane: tree (left) + file preview (right). FS: `/readme.txt`, `/system/log.txt`, `/notes/*`, `/music/tracks.json`? Keep: readme.txt (explains the system), about.txt. Preview as text. New file button? Maybe keep read-mostly with notes writing into it. - Agent: `fs.write(path, content)`, `fs.read(path)`. **6. Timers** (`timers`) - List of active timers with countdown ring (SVG circle progress), label, cancel button. Beep at end + toast. - Agent: `timers.set(seconds, label)`, `timers.cancel(id)`, `timers.list()`. **7. Agent console** (`agent`) — the star. - Layout: conversation stream (top, scrollable) + input composer (bottom). - Message types: user (right-ish? or mono), agent plan card (trace of steps with statuses: queued/running/done/failed, check marks animate), agent reply (serif italic voice), system observations (mono, dim). - Trace entry per step: `▸ notes.create("meeting") … done ✓` with live status. - Quick suggestion chips? "chips" risk genericness — I'll do a few "try:" example lines as plain text buttons styled as underlined mono links. Fine. - The composer: text input + "run" button. Enter runs. - While executing, input disabled? Better: queue commands. Keep simple: allow typing but execute sequentially (queue). ### Agent engine details **Intent parsing** — write a `parse(text)` that returns array of intents. Approach: split into clauses by `then`, `and`, `,`, `;`, `.` (careful with decimals — strip before splitting? Split on " then " / " and " / ";" / newline primarily; avoid splitting on periods with digits). Then per clause match patterns: Patterns (ordered, first match wins): 1. Open app: `/^(open|launch|start|show|fire up)\s+(the\s+)?(app\s+)?(terminal|notes?|calculator|calc|synth|music|files?|timers?|agent)/` → {type:'open', app} 2. Close app: `/^(close|quit|kill|hide)\s+.../` 3. Minimize: `/^(minimi[sz]e|hide)\s+.../` — hide conflicts with close regex; order matters. Put minimize first with `minimi[sz]e`, then close with `(close|quit|kill)`. 4. Write note: `/^(write|create|make|new|add)\s+(a\s+)?(note|memo)(\s+(called|titled|named)\s+"?([^"]+?)"?)?\s*(about|that says|saying|with|:)?\s*(.*)$/` → {type:'note.create', title, body} - If no explicit title, derive title from first words or timestamp "Note 14:32". 5. Append to note: `/(add|append|write)\s+"?(.+?)"?\s+to (my |the )?(note|notes)/` or `add ... to `? Keep: `/^append\s+.../` and `add X to (my|the) notes`. 6. Calculate: `/^(calc(ulate)?|compute|what('s| is)?|how much is)\s+([\d\s+\-*/^().%]+)$/` → {type:'calc', expr} - "what's 12*8" — careful. Also "what is 2+2". 7. Play: `/^(play)\s+(some\s+)?(music|a\s+track|the\s+synth)?(\s*)?(.*)$/` with track name matching (night drive, sunroom, machine hum, ambient...). If track name empty → default or ask? Default to "night drive" and mention it. Also "play X for Y seconds" → schedule stop. 8. Stop music: `/^(stop|pause|silence)( the)? (music|synth|track)?/` 9. Volume: `/^set volume to (\d+)/` or `/(turn )?(up|down|louder|quieter)/`. 10. Timer: `/^(set|start)\s+(a\s+)?timer(\s+for)?\s+(\d+)\s*(s|sec|secs|seconds|m|min|minutes|h|hours)?( for| to)?\s*(.*)$/` — also "remind me in X to Y". Parse duration units. Label optional. 11. Cancel timers: `/cancel (all |the )?timers?/`. 12. Time/date: `/what time|what's the time|what date/` → answer. 13. Read notes: `/^(what'?s|what is|read|show|open my|list)\s+(my|the)?\s*notes?\??$/` and "read my notes" → agent reads and summarizes (returns last note or list). 14. List files: `/^(list|ls|show)\s+files?/`. 15. Search: `/find|search\s+(for\s+)?["']?(.+)["']?/` → search FS + notes for term, report. Nice agentic touch. 16. Clean up: `/^(close everything|clean( up)?( the)? desktop|tidy)/` → minimize all windows. Fun. 17. Screenshot?? no. 18. "who are you" / "help" / "what can you do" → persona reply with capabilities. 19. Terminal exec: `/^(run|exec|type)\s+("(.+)"|(.+))\s+in (the )?terminal/` → open terminal + run command. 20. Erase/clear notes: `/^(clear|erase|wipe)\s+(the\s+)?(note|notes)/`. 21. Rename? skip. 22. "open X and ..." chaining handled by clause splitting. 23. Fallback: agent admits it can't, offers nearest suggestions (fuzzy match against known verbs — show "did you mean…" style). Good agent behavior: fail gracefully with suggestions. Chaining with context: clause parser returns steps; executor keeps `ctx.lastResult`. Support templates like "and save the result" — e.g., "calculate 234*12 and write the result in a note": clause 2 = "write the result in a note" — pattern: `write (the )?result( to| in| into)? (a |my |the )?(note...)` → note.create with body = `= ${lastResult}`. I'll add pattern: `/(write|save|put|add)\s+(the\s+)?(result|answer|it|that)\s+(in|to|into)\s+(a\s+|my\s+|the\s+)?(note|memo|file)?/` → uses ctx.lastResult. Also "note that " → create note. Multi-intent splitting must handle "then"/"and"/","/"..." Also "open notes and write hello" — splitting on " and " gives "open notes", "write hello" — good. But "what is 2 and 2"? unlikely; acceptable. **Planner**: mostly 1:1 intent→step, but some intents expand: e.g., "play for 30 seconds" → play + delayed stop (implemented as step with `after` param or a sleep step). Timer end triggers observation → agent may report. Keep planner simple: sequence of steps, each `{app, action, args, label, returns?}`. **Executor loop** (async): ``` for step of plan: traceUI.start(step) await sleep(300-500) // visible pacing focus window / open if needed perform visual action (typing animation etc.) const obs = await app.action(args) traceUI.done(step, obs) if obs.value → ctx.lastResult = obs.value ``` Observations logged in console as dim mono lines. Final agent reply composed from observations (serif italic, e.g., "Done — I opened Notes, wrote “...” (32 chars), and left the calculator showing 2,808.") Also error handling: if a step fails (bad track name, unknown file), trace shows failed, agent replies explaining and suggesting. **Typing animation util**: `typeInto(el, text, cps)` — streams characters; used for notes agent-write, terminal agent-run, search input in files? Terminal agent-run: instead of typing full command into input, we can flash it typed then execute. Nice: agent "types" into terminal input char by char then presses Enter. Implement: set input value progressively, then trigger run. **Calculator agent action**: open calc, set expression into display with quick stream, then trigger equals animation, read result. **Window manager**: - `WM.open(appId)`: if window exists → focus/restore; else create from app template at cascade position. - Drag: pointerdown on titlebar → track offsets, move with transform/left-top. Constrain within desktop bounds. - Resize: bottom-right handle, min sizes. - Focus: mousedown anywhere on window → zIndex++. - Minimize: hide with animation; dock icon shows state (dot under icon); taskbar? Menubar right shows running count. Keep dock as source of running indicators. - Close: remove DOM, app `destroy()` (e.g., synth stops). - Open animation: scale from 0.96 + fade, 180ms. - Cascade positions: base offset per open count. Single-window per app (fine). **Virtual FS**: ``` { name:'/', dirs:[ {name:'notes', files:[...]}, {name:'system', files:[...]}, {name:'music', files:[...]}, ...], files:[{name:'readme.txt', body:...}] } ``` Simpler: flat map path→content + folder list. `FS.write(path, content)`, `FS.read`, `FS.ls(dir)`. Seed: `/readme.txt` (welcome doc describing OTTO), `/system/manifest.txt` (app list + capabilities), `/system/log.txt` (append agent actions! — nice: a system log the agent appends to; terminal `cat /system/log.txt` shows history). Notes saved to `/notes/.txt`. Music tracks listed in `/music/`. **Toasts**: top-right small mono toasts for events (timer done, note saved, etc.). Slide-in. **Persistence**: localStorage for notes/FS? "No data collecting" — localStorage is on-device, fine and reinforces local-first. I'll persist FS to localStorage with a "storage: on-device only" note in settings? Adds complexity but good. Keep: persist FS (including notes) + agent chat history? FS yes; chat maybe not. Add a menubar "wipe" in... hmm, a Settings app? Maybe overkill. I'll persist FS only, and mention in readme. Add terminal command `reset` to wipe stored data. Actually let me add tiny "System" info in readme. Keep scope controlled — persistence adds real value ("local-first"), I'll do it: save FS JSON to localStorage on changes (debounced), load on boot. Provide `reset` terminal cmd + note in readme. **Boot sequence**: a short boot overlay (800ms) with mono log lines "otto kernel 1.0 … mounting / … starting agent runtime … no network interfaces" then fades to desktop with Agent window already open + maybe welcome message from OTTO. This gives instant first impression + narrative. Keep it quick (skippable on click). Boot lines type in quickly. Nice signature moment. Also first-run agent greeting in chat: "I'm OTTO — everything I do runs on this device..." with 3 example commands as clickable underlines that fill the composer. **Sound design**: tiny UI blips? Web Audio blip on window open/focus? Could be annoying; make a soft click on timer end + synth. Skip UI sounds except optional. Maybe subtle tick when agent completes a step? Could be nice but risky. I'll add a very quiet click on step completion, with a mute toggle in menubar? Scope... Skip UI sounds; keep synth + timer alarm. Actually a soft "tick" on agent completion adds a lot of machine-feel. I'll add it very quietly with a sound toggle in the menubar (icon speaker). Let me include: `Sound.tick()` on step done, `Sound.beep()` timer alarm, all via WebAudio oscillator. Toggle in menubar. Small cost, good payoff. **Clock**: menubar live HH:MM:SS + date, mono. **Network tripwire**: wrap `window.fetch`, `XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open`, `navigator.sendBeacon`, `WebSocket` — increment `NET.attempts`, toast "network attempt intercepted — OTTO stays offline" (in case any extension? whatever, mostly proof). Menubar badge: "NET 0" with a dot; clicking shows a small popover explaining "0 external requests this session — verified by runtime tripwire". That's a great trust artifact. I'll implement the popover as a small panel anchored under the badge. Hmm wait — fonts: if I use Google Fonts CDN, then `performance.getEntriesByType('resource')` will show 2 font requests → my "0 external requests" claim is false, and the tripwire (fetch/XHR wrappers) wouldn't catch CSS/font loads anyway (they're not fetch/XHR from JS... they are initiated by the browser). The tripwire only counts fetch/XHR/beacon/WebSocket. But the badge would say "external requests: 0" while fonts loaded externally — dishonest-ish. Options: (a) self-host fonts? Can't in single file... could embed base64 font — huge. (b) Use system font stack only. (c) Count honestly: badge says "API calls: 0" (tripwire counts fetch/XHR/beacon/WS — those are "data calls"), and note fonts are the only external asset... The user asked no 3rd party APIs and no data collection — a font CDN is neither, but to keep the story clean I could go fully system fonts. System mono stacks: `ui-monospace, "SF Mono", "Cascadia Code", Menlo, Consolas, monospace` — actually quite decent everywhere. And for the serif italic voice: `Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif` italic — Georgia italic is genuinely lovely for the agent voice. Hmm! That could work beautifully: Georgia italic for agent replies + system mono for everything machine. Fully self-contained, zero external requests, the badge claim is 100% true (I can even verify with resource entries and show real count). Let me commit: **zero external resources at all** — system fonts only: mono stack (ui-monospace/SF Mono/Cascadia/Menlo) for UI, Georgia italic for agent voice. This makes "everything our own" literal. The menubar badge shows live "NET: 0 requests" computed from `performance.getEntriesByType('resource').length` filtered to external + tripwire counter. Actually resource entries include local blob/data URLs too; filter by `initiatorType` and URL protocol. Simpler: tripwire counter for fetch/XHR/WS/beacon + a periodic check of resource entries with http(s) URLs → display count. I'll show both merged count. On boot after fonts... with no external fonts, resource entries will be 0 (maybe favicon requests? none). Design polish with system fonts: mono uppercase labels with letter-spacing, sizes 11-13px, strong hierarchy via weight/size/color. Georgia italic at 15-16px for agent prose. This can look genuinely great — "engineer's terminal meets handwritten margin notes". **Color palette** (warm, high-contrast, no gradients): - bg: `#0D0C0A` (near-black warm) - surface: `#141310` window bg - surface2: `#1B1916` panels - border: `#2E2B26` (1px) - border-bright: `#3D3931` - text: `#E8E2D5` (warm off-white) - text-dim: `#8A8375` - text-faint: `#5A554B` - accent: `#FFB224`? Let me choose amber: `#F5A524`? Classic amber phosphor `#FFB000`. On dark it's punchy. Use sparingly: focus rings, agent elements, active states, brand mark. - accent-dim: `#8A6A1F`? - success/danger: reuse amber for most; danger `#FF5C47` for close hover/errors. - Agent voice color: text with amber underline/rule; maybe agent replies in `#E8E2D5` with serif; plan trace in amber mono. Desktop dot grid: `background-image: radial-gradient(circle, #26231E 1px, transparent 1px); background-size: 24px 24px;` — radial-gradient for dots is a texture technique, not a decorative gradient wash; totally fine and subtle. **Window chrome details**: titlebar height 34px, app icon 14px, name uppercase mono 11px letterspaced, controls: two 22px square buttons (– and ×) as SVG lines. Focused window: titlebar text amber + border brighter; unfocused: dimmed. Active resize handle: corner lines. **Dock**: bottom center, height ~52px, translucent panel `rgba(20,19,16,.85)` with 1px border, icons 34px hover→amber stroke, running dot beneath. Tooltips (title attr or custom small tooltip — title is fine, or custom: on hover show label above). Custom tooltip nicer: small mono label. **Menubar**: height 36px, top, full width, border-bottom. Left: mark (SVG asterisk/spark in amber) + "OTTO OS" + separator + "NO CLOUD · NO TRACKERS" tiny? Maybe too much text; use the NET badge there. Layout: `[✳ OTTO OS] [net:0 requests ●] ...... [sound] [agent state: IDLE/RUNNING] [Mon 12 Jun] [14:32:05]`. Agent state indicator: dot (gray idle, amber pulsing when running) + label. Clicking opens agent window. **Agent console design**: - Header inside window: "OTTO — on-device agent" + status. - Stream: messages as blocks: - user: right-aligned? In a console, better left mono: `» you:` prefix. Or user messages styled as bordered chips aligned right with mono text. I'll do: user messages right-aligned mono in bordered rounded-sm chip (no gradient, just 1px border, maybe amber border-dim). Agent blocks left, full-width-ish: first a "thinking/plan" card (bordered, amber left border 2px) containing steps list with live status icons (○ queued, ◐ running spinning? use rotating dashes, ✓ done check, ✕ failed). Then the agent's prose reply in Georgia italic below, prefixed with a small spark mark. Observations inline in trace lines as dim text after "→". - Trace line format: `01 notes.create "Groceries — 3 items"` + status glyph + result dim. - Composer: input (mono) + Run button (amber border, hover fill). While running: button shows "RUNNING" and input still accept queue? Simpler: disable run while busy, allow typing; queued commands not supported — if busy, pressing enter shows inline notice "I'm still on the previous task — one moment." Actually implementing a queue is easy: push to queue, process sequentially. I'll implement queue — better UX. - Empty state: OTTO welcome + example commands as clickable lines: ``` try: · open notes and write a note about today's plan · calculate 128 * 46 then save the result as a note · set a timer for 10 seconds · play night drive then open the terminal ``` Clickable → fills composer (doesn't auto-run? auto-run is snappier — fill + focus, let user hit enter. I'll fill composer only.) **Terminal design**: classic. Prompt `guest@otto:/ $`. Support path display from cwd. Colors: prompt amber, output text-dim/normal. Autofocus input on window focus/click. Blinking block cursor? Real input with caret is fine; style caret-color amber. History arrows. Scrollback max lines. Terminal commands implementation notes: - `ls [dir]` lists FS nodes with `/` suffix for dirs, columns? simple list. - `cd` — track cwd per terminal session; support `..`, absolute paths. - `cat <path>` prints. - `open <app>` / `apps` list. - `agent <...>` — passes rest to agent (agent window opens, runs). - `calc <expr>` — evaluate, print. - `echo <text> [> file]`? Redirect: `echo hi > /notes/x.txt` — nice FS write. Support `>` write and `>>` append. - `touch`, `rm`, `mkdir`? mkdir maybe. Keep: touch, rm, mkdir, mv? skip mv. - `date`, `whoami` → "guest", `uptime` → time since boot, `sysinfo` → fake-but-true specs: "runtime: browser sandbox · network: none · storage: on-device · agent: OTTO v1". - `clear`, `help` (nice formatted command table). - `play`, `stop`, `timer <n>[s|m|h]` wrappers. - `log` → cat /system/log.txt. - `reset` → wipe localStorage + reload. **Notes app details**: - Sidebar list: title + time, active highlight. "+ new" button. Delete button (small × on hover? or in editor header "delete"). - Editor: title input (borderless, larger, mono? Georgia for body feels right — notes are human text; body in Georgia 15px? Or mono for consistency... Notes body in a comfortable serif (Georgia) would look lovely and differentiates human content from machine chrome. Yes: note body Georgia 15.5px, line-height 1.7.) - Footer: chars count, "saved · on-device" indicator, timestamp. - Agent write: opens notes window if closed, creates new note, streams body chars, then marks saved. For append: opens note, appends at end with animation. **Calculator details**: - Display: right-aligned large mono (28px), expression small above result? Model: input expression shown; on `=` shows result on second line with history. Simpler: single line display showing current expression, result after =. History strip (last 3 calcs) dim above. - Keypad grid 4 cols: ``` C ( ) ÷ 7 8 9 × 4 5 6 − 1 2 3 + 0 . % = ``` plus ^ maybe... I have % and could swap... include ^: make it 5 rows: ``` C ( ) ÷ 7 8 9 × 4 5 6 − 1 2 3 + ^ 0 . = ``` and % ... drop %, keep ^. Parser supports + - * / ^ ( ) unary minus, decimals. Fine. - Keyboard: digits, ops, Enter==, Backspace, Escape=C, when window focused. - Buttons: flat, 1px border, hover bg lighten, active press effect (translateY 1px), = button amber. - Expression parser: standard recursive descent: ``` expr := term (('+'|'-') term)* term := pow (('*'|'/') pow)* pow := unary ('^' pow)? unary := '-' unary | primary primary := number | '(' expr ')' ``` Handle errors → "ERR". Result formatting: round to 10 decimals, trim, thousands separators with commas for display (e.g., 2,808). Keep raw value for agent chaining. **Synth details**: - Audio engine: one AudioContext, master gain → analyser → destination. Also a feedback delay for space. - Track = { name, bpm, steps: 16, pattern: { lead: [midi or null x16], bass: [...], hat: [0/1 x16] }, wave: 'sawtooth'|'square'|'triangle' }. - Scheduler: setInterval 25ms lookahead 0.1s scheduling notes with oscillator + gain envelope (attack 0.005, decay per note). Hats: buffer of noise? Create noise buffer once, play with quick envelope through highpass. - Tracks: - NIGHT DRIVE: 96 BPM? darksynth: bass sawtooth root A1 pattern, lead arpeggio minor. midi numbers: A1=33. lead arp pattern over Am: [57,60,64,67...]. - SUNROOM: 72 BPM warm: triangle chords, sparse. Fmaj7-ish. - MACHINE HUM: 124 BPM minimal: square bass offbeat, tick hats. - UI: track list rows (name, bpm, key) selectable; transport buttons (play/pause/stop via SVG icons); volume slider (styled range); visualizer canvas (waveform from analyser, amber line on dark) height ~80px, plus step indicator (16 small squares lighting up) — the step LEDs make it feel alive. - Note display: current note name? extra. - Keep code compact but real. **Timers app**: - Add form: duration input (number + unit select) + label? Simplify: presets row (30s / 1m / 5m / 10m) + custom number+unit + start. List: each timer card (not uniform grid — vertical list) with SVG ring countdown (stroke-dashoffset animated via rAF), label, remaining mm:ss mono, cancel button. On end: ring flashes, alarm beep ×3, toast, remove after? mark "done" then remove after 4s. - Agent set: same as UI. **Files app**: - Left: tree with expand folders (▸ / ▾), files; right: preview pane showing content (mono, wrap) with path header + size + "on-device" tag. Double-click folder to open, click file to preview. Notes folder shows agent/user notes — integration payoff. - Seed files: - `/readme.txt`: welcome & explanation. - `/system/manifest.txt`: app registry + capability list (auto-generated? static). - `/system/log.txt`: agent action log (appended by agent). - `/music/tracks.txt`: track descriptions. **Toasts**: container top-right below menubar; toast: dark panel, 1px border, amber left rule, mono 12px, auto-dismiss 3.5s with slide/fade. Types: info/ok/warn. Now, amount of code: this is big — maybe 2000+ lines. That's fine; I should write it carefully and compactly. Let me be organized: 1. CSS (~600 lines) 2. HTML shell (~100 lines) 3. JS: - utils (sleep, el, fmt, clamp) - Sound engine - NET tripwire - FS - WM (window manager) - Apps: terminal, notes, calc, synth, timers, files - Agent (parser, planner, executor, UI) - Menubar/dock/boot - Init Let me think about the app capability registry for the agent. Each app object: ```js const APPS = { terminal: { title:'TERMINAL', icon:'terminal', w:640,h:420, mount(win){...}, caps:{...} }, ... } ``` Agent step format: `{app:'notes', fn:'create', args:{title, body}, label:'create note "X"'}` where fn is key into `APPS.notes.caps` (async functions returning `{ok, msg, value?}`). Caps are responsible for opening/focusing their window (or executor does `WM.open(app)` first — better: executor ensures window open for visual feedback unless step.app is 'system'). Agent actions that need no window (time/date) → app:'system'. Let me define caps per app: - system: `say(msg)`, `time()`, `date()`, `wait(sec)` - notes: `create({title, body})`, `append({title?, text})`, `read({title?})`, `list()`, `clear()` - calc: `evaluate({expr})` - synth: `play({track})`, `stop()`, `volume({v})` - timers: `set({seconds, label})`, `cancelAll()`, `list()` - terminal: `run({cmd})` - files: `read({path})`, `search({term})` - wm: `open({app})`, `close({app})`, `minimizeAll()` Parser output intents map to these. Now the parser patterns — let me write them carefully (JS, case-insensitive). I'll normalize: lowercase, strip punctuation except needed, collapse spaces. Keep original for quotes extraction? For note body we need original text — better extract from original string using regex on original with case-insensitive flag. I'll parse on the raw clause with case-insensitive regexes, so bodies keep casing. Clauses split: `text.split(/\s+then\s+|\s+and\s+then\s+|;|\n|(?:,\s*(?=(?:open|close|write|create|make|new|add|calc|play|stop|pause|set|start|cancel|list|show|read|what|how|who|run|type|clear|erase|minimi|find|search|tell|remind|save|put|append|note|launch|print)))/i)` — hmm splitting on commas conditionally is tricky. Simpler: split on `\s+then\s+|\s+and\s+(?=[a-z])|;|\n` and also `,` when followed by a verb-ish word. Let me just split on: ` /\s*(?:\bthen\b|\band\b|;|\n|,)\s*/i` — "what is 2 and 2" would split wrongly... "calculate 2 and 2"? Unlikely phrasing for math ("2 plus 2"? I don't support plus-words... could support "plus/minus/times/divided by"! That's nice: "what is 12 plus 9" — convert words: plus→+, minus→-, times→×/*, "divided by"→/, "x"→*. But then "and" split conflicts with "2 and 2" math. Edge case: accept that "and" always splits; math with "and" rare. OK split on then/and/,/;/ newline. Fine. Also support "after that", "next" as separators? add `\bafter that\b`, `\bnext\b`? "next" might appear in note text... only split on explicit `then`, `and`, `,`, `;`, newline. Also "." followed by space+capital? skip periods entirely to avoid decimal issues. Pattern list (per clause, lowercased for matching but capture from original where needed — I'll just capture from original clause with /i flags): 1. `/^(?:who are you|what are you|tell me about yourself|intro|introduce yourself)/` → identity 2. `/^(?:help|what can you do|commands|capabilities)/` → help 3. `/^(?:hi|hello|hey|yo|good (morning|afternoon|evening))\b/` → greeting (reply varies by time) 4. `/^(?:thanks|thank you|ty|nice|cool|great|perfect|good job|well done)\b/` → acknowledgment 5. open: `/^(?:open|launch|start|show|bring up|fire up|spawn)\s+(?:the\s+|my\s+)?(?:app\s+)?(terminal|notes?|notepad|calculator|calc|synth(?:esizer)?|music|files?|explorer|timers?|clock|agent|assistant)\b/` → map synonyms {note→notes, calc→calculator, music→synth, files/explorer→files, timers/clock→timers, agent/assistant→agent} 6. close: `/^(?:close|quit|kill|shut(?: down)?|dismiss)\s+(?:the\s+)?(terminal|notes?|calculator|calc|synth|music|files?|timers?|agent)\b/` — also "close everything/all"→minimizeAll? separate: `/^(?:close|clean|tidy)\s+(?:everything|all(?: windows)?|up|the desktop)/` → tidy. 7. minimize: `/^(?:minimi[sz]e|hide)\s+(?:the\s+)?(terminal|...)/` 8. note create: several forms: - `/^(?:write|create|make|new|add|take|jot)\s+(?:down\s+)?(?:a\s+|an\s+)?(?:quick\s+)?(?:note|memo)\b\s*(?:about|on|re:|:|\s)?\s*(.*)$/` — capture body; title detection `(?:called|titled|named)\s+"([^"]+)"` inside body. Also quoted: `note "hello"`. - `/^note\s+(?:that\s+)?(.+)$/` → body. - Empty body → create blank note titled "Untitled HH:MM". 9. append: `/^(?:add|append|write)\s+"?([^"]+?)"?\s+(?:to|into)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?(?:note|notes|memo)\b/` — also `add milk to groceries` where groceries is a note title: `/^(?:add|append)\s+(.+?)\s+to\s+["']?([\w \-]+?)["']?\s*$/` when the target matches an existing note title (check FS /notes). I'll implement: try "to my notes" pattern first, then check if trailing words match existing note title → append; else if pattern `add X to Y` and Y is note title → append; else treat as note create "add X"? Hmm ambiguity. Keep two patterns: explicit notes keyword OR existing-title match. 10. save result: `/(?:write|save|put|store|add)\s+(?:the\s+)?(?:result|answer|it|that|this)\b.*?\b(?:in|into|to|as)\s+(?:a\s+|my\s+|the\s+)?(?:note|memo|file)?/` → uses ctx.lastResult. "save the result as a note" / "write the result in a note". 11. calc: `/^(?:calc(?:ulate)?|compute|solve|evaluate)\s+(.+)$/` → expr normalize (replace ×÷−, strip spaces? keep). Also `/^what(?:'s| is)\s+([\d(][\d\s+\-*/^().%×÷]*)$/` and `/^how much is\s+(.+)$/`. Validate expr contains digit. 12. play: `/^play(?:\s+(?:some\s+|the\s+))?(music|synth)?\s*(.*)$/` — rest may be track name and/or "for N seconds/minutes". Track synonyms: night drive|darksynth|drive → nightdrive; sunroom|ambient|warm|chill → sunroom; machine hum|techno|hum|minimal → machine. Extract `/for\s+(\d+)\s*(s|sec|seconds|m|min|mins|minutes)?/`. If rest empty → default track (random? pick "night drive") and mention. 13. stop music: `/^(?:stop|pause|silence|shut off|turn off)\s+(?:the\s+)?(?:music|synth|track|song|sound|audio|beat)/` 14. volume: `/^(?:set\s+)?volume\s+(?:to\s+)?(\d{1,3})/` or `/(?:turn|crank)\s+(?:the\s+)?volume\s+(up|down)/` or `/(?:louder|quieter)/` (standalone with music context? "louder" alone → +20/-20 if synth playing). 15. timer set: `/^(?:set|start|create)\s+(?:a\s+)?timer\s*(?:for\s+)?(\d+)\s*(s|sec|secs|second|seconds|m|min|mins|minute|minutes|h|hr|hours)?(?:\s+for\s+(.+))?$/` and reminder form: `/^remind me(?:\s+in\s+(\d+)\s*(s|m|h|seconds|minutes|hours)?)?\s+(?:to\s+)?(.+)$/` → timer with label. Duration parse helper `parseDur(n, unit)`. Also "timer for 10 seconds" without "set". Also "in 10 minutes remind me to X"? skip, covered by remind me in. 16. timer cancel: `/^(?:cancel|stop|clear|kill)\s+(?:all\s+)?(?:the\s+)?timers?/` — conflict with stop music ("stop the music" has music word; timers word distinct; ok). But "stop" alone while music playing → stop music; while timer running? ambiguous — pattern 13 requires music noun; plain "stop" → if synth playing stop it else if timers → cancel all? Add: `/^stop$/` → contextual. 17. time/date: `/what(?:'s| is)?\s+(?:the\s+)?time\b\??/` → time; `/what(?:'s| is)?\s+(?:the\s+)?(?:date|day)\b/` → date; combined "time and date"? The "and" splits... "what's the time and date" → splits into "what's the time", "date" (unmatched). Handle: check `/time\b.*\bdate|date.*time/` first → both. Meh, acceptable minor. 18. read notes: `/^(?:read|show|display|print|open|view|summarize|check)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?notes?\b\??/` → notes.list + read active/most recent, reply with contents. Also "what's in my notes" `/what(?:'s| is)?\s+in\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?notes?/`. 19. read file: `/^(?:read|show|cat|open)\s+(?:the\s+)?file\s+([\w./\-]+)/` or bare path `/^([\w./\-]+\.\w+)$/` → fs.read. 20. list files: `/^(?:list|ls|show)\s+(?:the\s+)?files?\b/` → fs tree summary. 21. search: `/^(?:find|search(?:\s+for)?|look for|grep)\s+["']?(.+?)["']?$/` → search FS contents; report matches with paths (also notes). 22. terminal run: `/^(?:run|exec(?:ute)?|type)\s+(?:"([^"]+)"|(.+?))\s+(?:in|into|on)\s+(?:the\s+)?terminal/` → terminal.run. Also "open terminal and run X" — clause split on "and": "open terminal" + "run X in the terminal" — the second clause has "in the terminal". Good. Bare "run ls" without terminal mention? `/^run\s+(?:"([^"]+)"|(.+))$/` → treat as terminal command (open terminal + run). OK. 23. clear notes: `/^(?:clear|erase|wipe|empty|delete)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?(?:notes?|memos?)\b/` → notes.clear (delete all? or clear active? "erase my notes" → delete all notes with confirm? Agent shouldn't need confirm UI... make it delete all and say so. Risky but it's a demo; keep — or clear = delete all notes. Fine.) 24. delete note: `/^(?:delete|remove)\s+(?:the\s+)?note\s+["']?(.+?)["']?$/` → if title matches. 25. whoami/uptime: `/^(?:whoami|who am i)/` → "guest on OTTO OS..."; `/^uptime/` → boot duration. (terminal also has these; agent can answer too.) 26. math word operators normalize: `plus`→+, `minus`→-, `times`→*, `x`→* (careful: only in calc candidates), `multiplied by`→*, `divided by`→/, `over`→/, `to the power of`→^, `squared`→^2? skip squared. 27. Fallback: unknown → agent says can't + suggestions: compare first word to known verbs list, suggest examples. Also handle "open notes and write X" — split gives "open notes" + "write X" — "write X" matches note create (no "note" keyword) — my note pattern requires "note" keyword! "write hello world" alone should create note? Ambiguous vs terminal run ("run ...")? "write X" pattern: `/^write\s+(?:a\s+note\s+)?(.+)$/` → if no "note" keyword, still create note (write → note). But "write the result in a note" handled by pattern 10 first (contains result). Order: result-save pattern before generic write. OK: generic write pattern `/^(?:write|jot)\s+(down\s+)?(.+)$/` → note create with body. But "write milk to groceries"? covered by append pattern first. Fine. Edge: "open notes and write hello" — after "open notes" clause, "write hello" → note create. Also support "type X into notes"? covered-ish by write. Also "make a note called shopping list with milk eggs": pattern 8 captures body "called shopping list with milk eggs" → extract `called\s+"?([^"]+?)"?\s+(?:with|:|-|that says)\s+(.*)` if present → title+body; else title = first 3-4 words, body = rest? If body starts with "called X" and no body after → title only. Implement heuristics: ``` m = body.match(/^(?:called|titled|named)\s+"?([^"]+?)"?\s*(?:that says|saying|with|about|:|\s|-)\s*(.*)$/i) if m: title=m[1], body=m[2] else if body matches /^(?:called|titled|named)\s+"?([^"]+?)"?$/ : title only else if body starts with quote "..." : title=quoted, rest=body else: title = words.slice(0,4).join(' ') (cap ~24 chars), body=full body? ``` Hmm if user says "write a note about tomorrow: buy milk" → title "tomorrow: buy milk"?? Better: if "about X" present → title = X? Convention: note "about X" where X short → title; body same. I'll do: title = first 4 words (trim to 30 chars), body = whole text. Plus if explicit "called X" → title=X, body=rest. Reasonable. "note that X" → body X, title derived. Now **planner**: intents → steps: - identity/help/greeting/ack → reply-only (no steps) — agent replies directly (compose message). Could still be "steps: none". Implement as `{reply: string}` intent handled before planning. - open → wm.open step. - close → wm.close; minimize → wm.min. - tidy → wm.minimizeAll. - note.create → notes.create (window auto-opens by executor? notes.create cap itself calls WM.open('notes')? Executor: `if(step.app !== 'system') WM.open(step.app)` before running caps — except terminal.run for agent-driven exec should focus too. WM.open focuses if exists. Good.) - calc evaluate → calc.evaluate; result stored. - play → synth.play (+ optional synth.stop after delay → step {app:'system', fn:'wait', args:{sec}} then {app:'synth',fn:'stop'}? That blocks the queue for the duration — "play for 30 seconds then write note" would block. Better: schedule stop via setTimeout inside synth cap (self-timed), not as blocking steps. So play cap accepts `for` param and self-schedules, reporting that it scheduled. Good.) - stop music → synth.stop. - volume → synth.volume. - timer set → timers.set (returns id). - cancel timers → timers.cancelAll. - time → system.time; date → system.date. - notes read → notes.read (recent) — returns content for reply. - notes list → notes.list. - fs.read → files.read; fs list → summary string. - search → files.search. - terminal run → terminal.run (captures output → include in reply). - notes clear → notes.clear. Executor: builds reply summarizing: for each step result message, join. Compose nice serif reply. E.g., steps done → reply like: "Done. I've opened Notes and written “<title>” — 41 characters, saved on-device." Multiple parts joined with commas/periods. I'll have each cap return `{ok:true, msg:'wrote “…” (41 chars)'}` and final reply = "Done — " + msgs.join('; ') + '.' Or more crafted per intent. I'll craft: reply = step msgs joined, capitalized first letter, with a bit of voice. Keep helper `composeReply(intents, results)`. For system-only intents (time): reply "It's 14:32:05." nice. Failure: if step fails, stop remaining steps? Continue? I'll stop remaining (unless steps are independent like opens). Simpler: stop on failure, reply with what failed + suggestion. **Trace UI**: For each user command, push an "agent block": - header line: plan title (the raw command? show "TASK — <command>") - steps list rendered upfront with status ○ - as executor runs, update each step: status icon ◐→✓/✕, result text appended dim. - after done: agent prose reply appended below. Also a leading tiny line: "OTTO · parsing…" with elapsed ms? Add measured parse+exec time: "ran in 1.2s · 3 steps". Nice machine touch: footer meta line "3 steps · 1.24s · on-device". If reply-only (no steps): just prose reply (maybe with tiny "no steps needed" meta? skip). **Boot overlay**: full-screen dark; centered mono log lines appearing: ``` OTTO/1 · agentic desktop ───────────────────────── mounting filesystem ............ ok starting window manager ........ ok linking application runtime .... ok (6 apps) spinning up agent core ......... ok network interfaces ............. none (offline by design) telemetry collectors ........... 0 found ───────────────────────── all systems local. handing off. ``` Then fade out to desktop; agent window opens with greeting message typed (typewriter? Chat appear instantly is fine; maybe OTTO greeting types out — nice). Boot ~1.6s, click to skip. Add a "✳" mark pulsing. Also update log file /system/log.txt with boot entry. **Fonts**: mono stack: `"SF Mono", "Cascadia Code", "JetBrains Mono", Menlo, Consolas, "DejaVu Sans Mono", monospace` — define `--mono`. Serif: `Georgia, "Iowan Old Style", "Times New Roman", serif` — `--serif`. **Icons** (inline SVG symbols, 24 viewBox, stroke 1.6, no fill): - spark/asterisk (brand + agent): 6-ray asterisk: lines through center. - terminal: rect + `>_` prompt chevron. - notes: page with lines + folded corner. - calc: rect grid dots + operator? rect with grid of squares. - synth: sine wave path. - timers: clock circle + hands. - files: folder. - close ×, min –, play ▶ triangle, pause, stop square. - check ✓, cross ✕, spinner? use CSS animation on a rotating asterisk or a dash cycle. - volume speaker. - search magnifier. - plus. Write them as `<symbol>` defs and `<svg><use href="#i-notes"></use></svg>`. Manage stroke color via `currentColor`. Now sizes/positions of default windows on boot: open Agent (right side? centered-left?) Since main interaction = agent, open Agent window center-left (~460×560) and maybe Terminal small behind? Opening just Agent keeps desktop clean; user discovers dock. I'll open Agent + maybe Files small at right? Keep just Agent centered. Hmm, "first impression lands instantly": boot → desktop with dot grid + dock + agent window with greeting. Good. Maybe also auto-open nothing else. Dock has 7 icons. Window default sizes: terminal 640×420, notes 620×460, calc 340×480, synth 460×430, timers 380×460, files 640×440, agent 480×600. Cascade offsets: openCount*28. Desktop min viewport: this is desktop-oriented; add responsive handling: windows clamp to viewport; small screens → windows open near full-width. Add basic media handling in WM (max width = vw-20). Fine. **Drag implementation**: pointerdown on titlebar → capture pointer, compute dx/dy, set left/top; on pointerup release. Use `setPointerCapture`. Also bring-to-front on pointerdown anywhere in window (capture phase). Resize handle similar. Store bounds in window obj. **z-index counter** global. **Focus visuals**: `.win.focused` border-color bright; titlebar title amber; others dim. Track WM.focused. **Minimize animation**: transform scale(.96) translateY(20px) opacity 0 then display none. Dock dot under icon stays lit. **Close**: reverse? Just fade+scale quick, then remove; caps cleanup (synth stop, timers keep? closing timers window — timers keep running (they're system-level), fine; synth stops on close (audio tied to window? better synth keeps playing? If user closes synth window while playing, music stopping feels right... or keep playing with dock dot? Keep playing? Simpler + sensible: closing synth stops playback. Hmm, music apps usually keep playing when window closed... but then no UI to stop except agent/terminal. Keep playing and allow agent "stop music". Actually nice: closing synth window keeps music — dock icon shows active dot + the visualizer... but visualizer dies with window. It's fine: keep playing, agent can stop. I'll keep playing — and note in UI? Eh — I'll stop on close, simplest predictable behavior. Let me actually keep playing; terminal `stop` and agent `stop` and reopening synth shows it playing (transport reflects state). That's more alive. Decide: keep playing.) Timer window closing: timers persist (system-level), toast on completion regardless. **Agent step execution & window focus**: executor calls `WM.open(app)` (focus + restore). Then cap runs with animations. Between steps ~350ms pacing so user can watch. Typing animation duration ~ 18ms/char capped 900ms total (for long bodies speed up: duration = min(text.length*20, 1100)). **Notes save to FS**: `FS.write('/notes/'+slug(title)+'.txt', body)`; FS persists to localStorage (debounced 300ms). Notes list built from FS /notes dir + in-memory drafts? Simplest: notes app state = its own array of notes {id, title, body, updated}; on save also mirror to FS. On boot, load notes from FS /notes/*.txt? Two sources = sync headaches. Alternative: notes app IS backed by FS entirely: note = file in /notes. Title = filename (without .txt), body = content. List from FS. Create → FS.write. Append → FS read+write. Delete → FS.rm. Meta (updated time) — FS stores {body, mtime}. FS node: `FS.tree = { 'notes': { type:'dir', children: {...} }, ... }` Let me implement tree structure: ```js FS.root = { type:'dir', children: {} } node: {type:'dir', children:{}} | {type:'file', body:'', mtime} FS.resolve(path) → node (path like '/notes/foo.txt') FS.write(path, body) (create dirs as needed? only in seeded dirs; auto-create parent for /notes fine) FS.mkdir, FS.rm, FS.ls(path) → entries FS.persist() → localStorage 'otto.fs'; FS.load() ``` Notes app reads FS directly. **Agent logging**: append lines to /system/log.txt: `[14:32:05] agent: 3 steps — opened notes; created note "plan" (41c)`. Terminal `log` reads it. Cute. **Search cap**: walk FS, match term case-insensitive in file bodies & names; return matches [{path, snippet}]. Reply lists up to 5. **calc cap**: `APPS.calc.caps.evaluate({expr})` → opens window, sets input with animation (fast stream), triggers evaluate, returns value + formatted. Now **agent voice** — reply composition should feel personal, brief, serif italic. Examples: - greeting: "Hey. I'm OTTO — I run entirely on this machine. Give me a task: open apps, take notes, do math, set timers, make some noise. Nothing you say leaves this window." - time: "It's 14:32:05 — <date>." maybe with flavor "afternoon"? - done multi-step: "Done — Notes is open with “Plan for today” written down (38 characters, saved locally), and the calculator agrees: 2,808." - failure: "I couldn't do that one — I don't have a weather app (and I deliberately can't reach the network to check). Want me to write it down as a reminder instead?" Nice touches like that elevate it. I'll craft replies per intent with templates + variants (pick random from 2-3 variants for aliveness). **Help reply**: list capabilities in prose + mono list? Agent block can include a small mono list. I'll allow agent message with `list` payload. Now let me also plan the **"try" examples** clickable: - "open notes and write a note called errands with milk, coffee, batteries" - "calculate 128 * 46 then save the result as a note" - "set a timer for 10 seconds" - "play sunroom then open the terminal" Wait — "calculate 128 * 46 then save the result as a note": clause split on "then": ["calculate 128 * 46", "save the result as a note"]. Pattern 10 (save result) matches 2nd. calc stores value; note.create with body "= 5888"? Body: "128 × 46 = 5888"? I'll pass body `= 5,888` or include expr: body = `128 * 46 = 5888`. The cap can receive body from ctx.lastResult → body = `${expr} = ${result}`? Executor knows last intent; for result-save intents, set args.body = `${ctx.lastExpr} = ${ctx.lastResult}` and title "Calc result" or derive. Good: title = "Calc — 5888"? Title: "Calc result". Body: `128 * 46 = 5,888`. Also "write the result in a note": body same. **parseDur**: units: s (×1), m (×60), h (×3600); default seconds if bare number ("set a timer for 10" → 10s? "set a timer 5 minutes"? pattern requires "for"). Also "set a 10 minute timer": pattern variant `/^(?:set|start)\s+(?:a\s+)?(\d+)\s*(s|sec|...|m|...|h|...)?\s*(?:timer|alarm)/` — add this alternative. And "timer 30 seconds" `/^timer\s+.../`. I'll add a combined timer regex with alternatives. Hmm, also "set an alarm for 5 minutes" → alarm word = timer. **Time formatting**: `fmtClock(d)` HH:MM:SS, `fmtDate` "Tue 18 Jun" style: `d.toLocaleDateString(undefined,{weekday:'short', day:'numeric', month:'short'})` — locale-dependent; fine, or hardcode English arrays for consistency: DAYS/MONTHS arrays. Use English labels for a consistent machine voice. (UI language: user wrote in English → all UI English.) **Number formatting**: `fmtNum(n)`: if integer → toLocaleString('en-US') with commas; else round 8 decimals trim trailing zeros. **Synth tracks data** (midi → freq: 440*2^((m-69)/12)): NIGHT DRIVE — 100 BPM? darksynth 110 BPM. 16 steps. - bass (saw, A minor): steps: play root each 4 steps with octave bounce: [A1,-,-,-, A1,-,-,-, C2? ...] pattern e.g. [33,null×3, 33,null×3, 36,null×3, 31,null×3]? Let me craft: roots [45? that's A2]. Bass A1 = midi 33 (55Hz). Sequence per bar of 16: hits on steps 0,3,6,10,12? For drive feel: straight 8ths with octave alternation: steps even: A1, odd: A2? That's driving. I'll do: bass pattern length 16: [33,45,33,45, 33,45,33,45, 36,48,36,48, 31,43,31,43] (A1/A2 ×8, C2/C3 ×4? hmm 36=C2, then 31=G1). Actually chord progression Am–F–C–G over 4 bars would need 64 steps; keep one bar loop with root movement per 4 steps: [33,...,33 (×4 beats A), then F1=29? F1=29 (43.65Hz)... Let me simplify: bass loop 16 steps: [33,-,-,33, -,-,33,-, 29,-,-,29, -,-,31,-]? I'm overcomplicating. Since it loops, a 4-bar progression is nicer. Let pattern length = 32 (2 bars) or 64 (4 bars) with per-track length. I'll support arbitrary length arrays. Let me define tracks carefully but simply (I'll write them as note arrays; it's fine if musically decent rather than perfect): NIGHT DRIVE (darksynth, 108 BPM), 4 bars × 16 = 64 steps? That's a big array... Alternative: define per-track: chordProg = [{root, type}] per bar, and generator builds patterns programmatically: bass = root 8ths with octave jumps; lead = arpeggio of chord tones in 16ths pattern [0,1,2,1] indices into chord tones [root, +3/4, +7, +12]; hat on offbeats. This procedural generation = more elegant, less data, and sounds cohesive. Track def: ```js { id:'night', name:'NIGHT DRIVE', bpm:112, bars:4, prog:[[45,'m'],[41,'M'],[48,'M'],[43,'M']], // A minor, F, C, G — actually A2=45, F2=41, C3=48, G2=43 lead:'arp16', bass:'8oct', wave:'sawtooth', hat:true, key:'A minor' } ``` Generator at schedule time computes midi per step: - bass '8oct': on every even 16th? "8ths" = every 2 steps (16 steps/bar, 8th notes = every 2 steps). bass note = chordRoot-12 (one octave down) with +12 on steps where (step%4==2)? adds bounce. - lead 'arp16': every step, chordTones = [root, root+ (minor?3:4), root+7, root+12], index pattern per 16 steps: [0,1,2,3,2,1,0,2, 1,3,2,0,3,1,2,0]? Something non-repetitive; or classic up-down: idx = [0,1,2,1][s%4] + octave shift by bar. Fine. - SUNROOM (ambient, 84 BPM): chord tones sustained: lead plays whole/half notes: on step 0 of each bar: chord [root, third, seventh?]. Add 7th (+10). wave 'triangle', soft. bass: root whole notes (step 0 only, long gain envelope). - MACHINE HUM (minimal, 126 BPM): bass square on offbeats (steps 2,6,10,14) root-12; lead sparse blip on steps 4, 12 (+7); hats on every offbeat 8th; maybe a "tick" on quarters. Scheduler: ``` currentTrack, playing, step, nextTime timer = setInterval(schedule, 25): while nextTime < ctx.currentTime + 0.12: scheduleStep(step, nextTime); advance: nextTime += stepDur; step=(step+1)%(bars*16); update UI via requestAnimationFrame reading (nextTime - currentTime) or on step schedule push {time, step} to queue and rAF lights LED when time passed. ``` LED lighting: keep `scheduledSteps=[{time, step}]`; in rAF, while queue[0].time <= ctx.currentTime → set currentLED. Voices: - `playNote(freq, time, dur, wave, vol, dest)`: osc + gain env (attack .005, sustain, release .06), optional lowpass filter for saw (cutoff ~1200 for bass mellow). - `hat(time)`: noise buffer (pre-generated 0.08s) through highpass 6000, quick decay. - master chain: masterGain → (dry + delay send) → compressor? → analyser → destination. Simple: masterGain → analyser → destination; delay: sendGain → delayNode(0.28) → feedback(0.35) → delayGain → masterGain. Add delay only for lead send. Volume: masterGain.gain = v/100 * 0.8. Stop: clear interval, silence: quick master gain ramp? Stop pending sources? Sources scheduled ≤0.12s ahead will play out — acceptable (or track and stop them: keep array of active sources, stop on stop()). I'll keep activeSources list and stop all on stop, and disconnect? Just call src.stop(now) for each; they're short. Also reset LEDs. Pause vs stop: pause = suspend? AudioContext suspend pauses everything incl. timers... simpler: play/stop only + pause implemented as stop-with-position? I'll offer Play/Stop only, plus track select. Transport: PLAY (▶), STOP (■). Pause omitted (keeps code lean). Visualizer: analyser fftSize 1024, waveform line + maybe bars; draw with amber stroke on dark; also 16 step LEDs row. Synth caps: `play({track})` — resolve track by id/synonym; if not found → {ok:false, msg:`no track called “x” — available: night drive, sunroom, machine hum`}; `stop()`; `volume({v})` clamps 0-100. **Timer alarm sound**: `Sound.alarm()` — three quick double-beeps (square 880Hz). Distinct from tick. **Sound engine**: ```js Sound = { ctx (lazy), tick(){short 2200Hz sine 0.03s very quiet}, blip(), alarm() } ``` Muted flag toggle in menubar (icon button). Default: sounds on but VERY quiet (0.05 gain). Actually ticks on every step might get annoying — make tick super subtle. OK. **NET tripwire**: ```js NET = { sent:0, attempts:0, hook() } wrap window.fetch: orig => function(...a){ NET.log('fetch', a[0]); return orig.apply(this,a) } XHR: patch XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open similarly. navigator.sendBeacon. WebSocket wrap constructor. log(): attempts++, toast warn "Network access intercepted and blocked? " ``` Wait — should it *block*? If it blocks, and hypothetically some code needed network, it'd fail... but nothing in our app uses network. Do we block or just monitor? The claim "no data collection" — monitoring + showing counter is honest. Blocking = stronger. I'll monitor and also not block (we can't meaningfully block fetch without breaking... we could return a rejected promise — but then if a future feature needed fetch it'd break; nothing does). I'll *monitor only* but label the badge "0 requests sent". If an attempt happens (it won't), toast warns. The badge popover: "This session has sent 0 network requests. OTTO has no telemetry, no analytics, no phoning home — verified live by tripwire hooks on fetch/XHR/WebSocket/sendBeacon." Also note "page resources (fonts) are bundled-free: zero external files". Since we use system fonts, we truly have ZERO external requests — powerful and true. Badge in menubar: `[● NET 0]` — a dot (green? use accent amber dim = idle) + "NET 0". Click → popover panel. This is a memorable honesty feature. Also add to menubar a "LOCAL ONLY" chip? redundant; the NET badge suffices. Maybe brand tagline in desktop bottom-left: "OTTO OS 1.0 — agentic desktop · all computation on-device · nothing leaves this tab". **Settings/mute**: menubar right: sound toggle icon, NET badge, clock, date. **Accessibility-ish**: buttons have titles; inputs have placeholders; keyboard: Enter in composer; Esc closes focused window? Esc → minimize focused window (nice). Ctrl+`? skip. **Toast component**: `toast(msg, kind)` → div in #toasts, auto-remove 3.4s, slide-in animation. Mono text, left border amber (ok) / red (warn). Now, code size estimate: This is large — maybe 1800-2400 lines. That's fine; I'll write carefully and compactly but readable. Let me be disciplined: helpers to cut boilerplate (`el(tag, attrs, children)`, event delegation). Let me draft key CSS: ```css :root{ --bg:#0d0c0a; --surface:#151310; --panel:#1a1815; --line:#2a2721; --line-hi:#3a362d; --text:#e8e2d5; --dim:#9a937f? hmm warm gray: #a39a88; --faint:#615c50; --acc:#ffb224; --acc-dim:#8a6a1f? ; --danger:#ff5d45; --mono: ...; --serif: ...; } ``` Amber #FFB000-ish: `#ffae1a`? classic amber phosphor #FFB000. Use `--acc:#ffb000`, hover brighter `#ffc94d`. Danger `#ff6242`. Background: `--bg` with dot grid: `background-image: radial-gradient(circle, #26231d 1px, transparent 1px); background-size: 26px 26px;` — radial-gradient used for dot grid is a technique, not a decorative gradient wash. Fine. Windows: `position:absolute; background:var(--surface); border:1px solid var(--line-hi); border-radius:6px? ` — sharp-ish: 4px radius. box-shadow: `0 18px 50px rgba(0,0,0,.55)` for depth. Focused: border `#4a4436`; titlebar bottom border. Titlebar: height 36px, bg slightly different `--panel`, icon+name (11px mono uppercase ls .12em, color dim → amber when focused), controls right (two 22px buttons hover bg). Dock: fixed bottom center, `display:flex; gap:6px; padding:8px 10px; background:rgba(20,18,15,.9); border:1px solid var(--line); border-radius:8px; backdrop-filter: blur(8px)`. Icon buttons 38×38, hover: amber icon + bg panel; active (open): dot below. Menubar: fixed top, height 34px, bg `rgba(13,12,10,.9)` border-bottom, flex: brand left, right cluster. Agent window content: bg `--surface`; stream area padding 14px, custom scrollbar (thin, thumb `--line-hi`). User msg: right-aligned chip: `background:#201d18; border:1px solid var(--line-hi); padding:8px 12px; mono 12.5px; max-width 78%; align-self flex-end; border-radius:8px 8px 2px 8px`. Label "YOU" tiny above? Keep chip + tiny right-aligned label "you · 14:32" dim 10px. Agent reply: left, serif italic 15.5px, color text, max-width 88%, with left rule? A 2px amber left border + padding-left 12px — signature "agent voice" styling. Meta line above: "OTTO" tiny mono amber + time. Plan/trace block: bordered panel `border:1px solid var(--line); background:#17151199`: - header: "PLAN · 3 STEPS" mono 10px dim ls. - rows: index (01), action name mono amber-dim, label text dim, status icon right (○ faint, ◐ amber spinning, ✓ amber, ✕ danger), result line dim 11px below label when present. - footer meta: "ran in 1.28s · on-device · 0 network requests" — reinforce privacy per task! Love it: every agent task footer shows "0 bytes sent · 0 requests". Composer: bottom, border-top; textarea single-line (input) + run button (icon spark + "RUN"). Composer disabled state while executing? Show queue count? Keep enabled; if busy, push to queue and add a small pending note? Simplify: if busy → append message "queued" chip? I'll allow typing; on submit while busy, add tiny system line "queued — I'll get to it." and process after. Implement promise queue: `Agent.queue.push(fn)`. Fine. Typing animation in reply: agent prose could also type out (fast, 8ms/char, skip on click?) — nice but risky with clicks; keep replies instant except boot greeting types. Actually instant is snappier; boot greeting typed is enough theater. Hmm, but watching agent type greeting sets tone. I'll type the boot greeting (and keep task replies instant for responsiveness). Compromise good. Terminal: output area `#termscroll`, lines appended; input row: prompt + input (transparent bg, mono 13px, amber caret). History. Output colors: cmd echo lines with prompt dim amber, response text, error in danger. Notes: sidebar 168px (list), editor flex. List item: title mono 12px + time 10px dim; active: amber left bar + bg. Editor: title input (borderless, serif 18px? Title in mono caps? Titles: mono 14px semibold), body textarea Georgia 15px lh 1.7, bg transparent, caret amber. Footer: "saved · /notes/<file> · 214 chars". Delete button top-right of editor (small ×). New note button in sidebar header (+). Agent writes → disable editor input during stream, show "OTTO writing…" indicator. Calc: display area: history line (10px dim, right-aligned, last 3 exprs), main display mono 28px right-aligned, then keypad grid 4 cols gap 6, buttons 44px: digits panel bg, operators amber-tinted? Operators: amber text; '=' full amber bg with dark text (single accent block — purposeful, not gradient). C and ( ) dim. Layout rows: ``` C ( ) ÷ 7 8 9 × 4 5 6 − 1 2 3 + 0 . ^ = ``` Display shows live expression; result preview dim below when valid? Show expr big; on '=', result replaces expr with a subtle flash, expr moves to history. Keyboard: digits, +-*/^(), Enter==, Backspace, Escape=C, %? skip. Parser precedence: power right-assoc; unary minus; parentheses; percent? skip %. Synth: header: track list (3 rows, selectable, name + bpm + key; active: amber). Transport row: play/stop buttons (icon buttons), volume slider (input range styled: track thin line, thumb square amber), LED strip (16 cells, current lights amber), canvas 100%×90px waveform. Footer: "now: NIGHT DRIVE · 112 BPM · step 07". Timers: composer row: number input + unit select (styled) + label input + ADD button. List: each timer row: ring SVG (r=16, stroke amber progress) + remaining mono 16px + label + cancel ×. Empty state: "no timers running — ask me: “set a timer for 5 minutes”." (cross-promotes agent). Files: left tree (folders expandable, files clickable), right preview (name + size + body pre-wrap mono 12.5px). Folders: /system, /notes, /music, root files. Refresh on FS change (pub/sub: FS.onchange). Now write the **agent parser** code carefully. Let me write it as function `Agent.parse(raw)` returning `{reply?, steps:[]}`. I'll write helper: `const RX = (re)=>...` Just write regexes inline. Also `syn` maps: ```js const APP_ALIASES = {terminal:'terminal', console:'terminal', shell:'terminal', cmd:'terminal', notes:'notes', note:'notes', notepad:'notes', memo:'notes', calc:'calc', calculator:'calc', synth:'synth', music:'synth', player:'synth', tracks:'synth', files:'files', file:'files', explorer:'files', folders:'files', timers:'timers', timer:'timers', alarm:'timers', clock:'timers', agent:'agent', otto:'agent', assistant:'agent', you:'agent'} ``` Step label: human string for trace. Let me now write parse logic pseudo: ```js function parse(raw){ raw = raw.trim().replace(/\s+/g,' ') const clauses = splitClauses(raw) // by then/and/, etc. const steps=[]; for(const c of clauses){ const r = parseClause(c, steps.length) // {reply?} | {steps:[...]}, sets ctx if(r.replyOnly) replies.push... steps.push(...r.steps) } } ``` Actually replies-only intents (greeting etc.) → handled: if any clause yields reply-only and no steps → return reply. Mixed (rare) → treat reply-only clause as ignored with note. parseClause(c, i): ``` const s = c.trim(); if(!s) continue const low = s.toLowerCase() // 0. bare path or expressions? skip // 1. identity if(/^who (are|r) (you|u)/.test(low) || /^(what|who) are you\b/.test(low)) return {reply: REPLY.identity} // 2. help/capabilities if(/^(help|what can you do|abilities|capabilit|commands)\b/.test(low)) return {reply: REPLY.help, list:[...]} // 3. greeting if(/^(hi|hey|hello|yo|good (morning|afternoon|evening)|howdy)\b/.test(low)) return {reply: greeting variant} // 4. thanks if(/^(thanks|thank you|thx|ty|nice|cool|great|awesome|perfect)\b/.test(low)) return {reply: variant} // 5. time/date if(/what('s| is)? the time|what time|^time\??$|^date\??$|what('s| is)? (today's )?date|what day/.test(low)) return {steps:[{app:'system',fn:'clock',label:'read system clock', reply:'time'}]} ``` Hmm reply composition: let each intent carry `fmt(results)` function to build prose. I'll attach `tell` (function receiving result map) to intents. Design: intent = {app, fn, args, label, tell(result)}. Executor stores results per step; final reply = if first intent has tell → its output else default composer. For multi-step, default composer joins msgs. Special: time intent tell: `r=> "It's "+r.time+" — "+r.date+"."` Let me define each intent with optional `tell`. ``` // 6. open app m = low.match(/^(open|launch|start|show|bring up|fire up|run)\s+(?:the\s+|my\s+)?(?:app\s+)?([\w ]+)$/) if m: name=m[2].trim(); app=APP_ALIASES[name] || APP_ALIASES[name.replace(/s$/,'')] if app → step wm.open else if /file|folder/ hmm covered else → unknown app → reply "I don't have a “X” app..." ``` Careful: "run" also used for terminal exec — check terminal-exec pattern BEFORE open. Terminal exec: `/^(run|exec|type)\s+(["'](.*)["']|(.+))\s+(?:in|on|with|through)\s+(?:the\s+)?(terminal|shell|console)$/` and `/^type\s+(.*)\s+in(?:to)?\s+(?:the\s+)?terminal$/`. // 7. close / minimize ``` m=low.match(/^(close|quit|kill|exit|hide|dismiss)\s+(?:the\s+)?([\w ]+)/) app resolution; "close everything|all|all windows|everything" → tidy (minimizeAll) minimize: /^(minimi[sz]e|collapse)\s+/ → wm.min ``` Order: minimize check before close (since "hide" in both? I put hide in close; minimize pattern first for "minimize"). // 8. tidy `/^(clean|clear|tidy)( up)?( the)? (desktop|workspace|windows)$|^(close) (everything|all windows|all)$|^(hide) (everything|all)$/` → wm.minimizeAll // 9. timer intents ``` m = low.match(/^(?:set|start|create|make|add)\s+(?:a\s+|an\s+)?(?:(\d+)\s*(ms|s|secs?|seconds?|m|mins?|minutes?|h|hrs?|hours?)\s*)?(?:timer|alarm|countdown)\s*(?:for\s*)?(\d+)\s*(ms|s|secs?|seconds?|m|mins?|minutes?|h|hrs?|hours?)?\s*(?:to|for|that says|called|labeled|label)?\s*(.*)$/) ``` Hmm messy. Two patterns: A: `(?:set|start)\s+(?:a\s+)?(?:timer|alarm|countdown)\s+(?:for\s+)?(\d+)\s*(units)?\s*(?:for\s+|to\s+|that\s+)?(.*)$` B: `(?:set|start)\s+(?:a\s+)?(\d+)\s*[—-]?\s*(units)\s+(?:timer|alarm|countdown)\s*(?:for\s+|to\s+|that\s+)?(.*)$` Also "remind me in X to Y": `/^remind me (?:in|after)\s+(\d+)\s*(units)?\s*(?:to\s+|about\s+)?(.*)$/`. And "timer for 30 seconds" bare: `/^timer\s+(?:for\s+)?(\d+)\s*(units)?\s*(.*)$/`. Label cleanup: strip "please", trailing punctuation. If label equals duration words, drop. unit default 's'. Args: seconds int (min 1), label. tell: "Timer set — N remaining." cap returns remaining formatted. // 10. cancel timers `/^(cancel|clear|stop|kill)\s+(?:all\s+|the\s+)?(timers?|alarms?|countdowns?)$/` → timers.cancelAll. // 11. play ``` m = low.match(/^(play|jam|put on|start (?:the )?music|cue)\b\s*(.*)$/) rest = m[2] stopM = rest.match(/for\s+(\d+)\s*(units)?/) → dur rest cleaned of for-clause track = matchTrack(rest) // search TRACKS by name words/synonyms: night drive: /night|drive|dark|synthwave/; sunroom: /sun|room|chill|ambient|warm/; machine: /machine|hum|techno|minimal|beat/ if rest empty or 'music'|'something' → default pick: 'night' (or random) — say which. if rest has words but no match and not empty → maybe it's track request unknown → {reply: "I don't have a track called X — I keep three on-device: night drive, sunroom, machine hum."} ``` step: synth.play args {track, dur} tell: "Playing <name> — <bpm> BPM, generated live on your speakers. [Stops in Ns.]"? cap msg covers. // 12. stop music `/^(stop|pause|hush|silence|kill)\s+(?:the\s+)?(music|track|song|synth|sound|beat|noise)?$/` or "stop" alone → ambiguous with timers "stop"? "stop" alone → stop music if playing else stop timers? Contextual: if synth playing → stop music; else if timers active → cancel? I'll make bare "stop" = stop music (mention). And "stop timer(s)" → cancelAll (check pattern 10 first: `(timers?)` required there, so "stop music" falls here). // 13. volume `/^(?:set\s+)?volume\s+(?:to\s+)?(\d{1,3})$/` or `/turn (it )?(up|down)/` or `/(louder|quieter|softer)/` → volume ±15 or set. "mute" → 0. Args v. // 14. calc ``` m = low.match(/^(?:calc(?:ulate)?|compute|math|evaluate)\s+(.+)$/) || low.match(/^what(?:'s| is)?\s+(.+?)[\s?]*$/) with expr check, or /^(?:how much is|how much would|solve)\s+(.+)$/ expr: normalize words: replace ' plus '→'+', ' minus '→'-', ' times '→'*', ' multiplied by '→'*', ' divided by '→'/', ' over '→'/', ' x '→'*', '×'→'*','÷'→'/','−'→'-', '^'→'^', strip '?' and trailing '=' validate /^[\d+\-*/^().\s]+$/ and has digit ``` "what is 2+2" → pattern: `/^what(?:'s| is)?\s+([\d(].*)$/` — require starts with digit or '('. step: calc.evaluate {expr}. tell: "The calculator says **5,888**." — agent can include value emphasized? I'll render agent prose; numbers just inline. `tell: r => "That comes to "+fmtNum(r.value)+"."` variants. // 15. note create ``` m = low.match(/^(?:write|create|make|new|add|start|take|open)\s+(?:a\s+|an\s+)?(note|memo|reminder)(?:\s+(?:about|on|that|saying|with|for))?\b\s*[:]?\s*(.*)$/) ``` careful: "open notes" would match "open + note"! Open pattern runs earlier (pattern 6) — yes, ordering: open checked before note-create. But "open a note"? edge, ignore. Also "take a note" covered. "note that..." separate: `/^note\s+(?:that\s+)?(.+)$/`. body from m[2]; also check "called/titled/named <t>": bodyM = body.match(/^(?:called|titled|named)\s+["“']?([^"”']+)["”']?\s*(?:,|about|with|saying|that says|:)?\s*(.*)$/i) — capture title, rest body. Also quotes: body starts with “...” → title? If body quoted `"groceries" milk eggs`: /^["“]([^"”]+)["”]\s*,?\s*(.*)$/. Also "about X" → title = X? e.g. "write a note about the meeting" — title "The meeting"? body "the meeting"? Hmm "write a note about X" usually means content=X or title=X. I'll treat: title = derived from body first ~4 words if body present, else auto; body = X. Wait no — "about the meeting" → the note is ABOUT the meeting, so body should be about meeting... but user gave nothing else. I'll set title = "Meeting"? Simplest: title = capitalize(body.slice(0,32)), body = body. If they meant content, fine too. Also "that says X" → body=X, title auto. Let me define: after extracting explicit title: - if title && rest → title=title, body=rest - if title && !rest → title=title, body='' - if no title && body → title=autoFromBody, body=body - if nothing → title='Note HH:MM', body='' autoFromBody: first 5 words joined, capitalized, truncated 28. step: notes.create {title, body}. tell: mentions title + chars + saved path. // 16. note append ``` m = low.match(/^(?:add|append|put|write)\s+["“']?([^"”']+?)["”']?\s+(?:to|in)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?(note|notes|memo)\b\s*(.*)$/) → append to current note (or last note) m2 = low.match(/^(?:add|append|put)\s+["“']?(.+?)["”']?\s+(?:to|in)\s+["“']?([\w \-]+)["”']?\s*$/) → target = words; if /notes/ dir has file matching target (case-insens) → append to that note; else if target is 'notes'/'note' current → append current. ``` Order: check explicit (note|notes) first, then check FS match, else treat as... if pattern m2 matched but target unknown note → create note with that title? "add milk to groceries" and no groceries note → create it. Good agentic behavior: "There was no note called groceries, so I started one and added milk to it." // 17. result-save ``` m = low.match(/^(?:save|write|put|copy|note)\s+(?:the\s+|that\s+)?(?:result|answer|it|that)\s+(?:as|to|in|into)\s+(?:a\s+|my\s+|the\s+)?(note|memo|file)?\s*(?:called\s+["“']?([^"”']+)["”']?)?/) ``` requires ctx.lastResult; body = `${ctx.lastExpr} = ${fmtNum(ctx.lastResult)}`; title = called-title or "Calc — " + fmt(result). If no lastResult → reply "I don't have a result to save yet — do a calculation first." // 18. read notes / queries ``` /^what'?s (?:in|written) (?:my|the) notes?/ | /^(?:read|show|display|list)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?(notes?|memos?)/ → notes.list → tell summarizing: "You have N notes: <titles>. The most recent, “X”, says: “...”" (truncate 90) /^list (?:the )?files/ or /^what files/ → fs.ls → tell /^search (?:for )?["“']?(.+)["”']?$/ | /^find ["']?(.+)/ → fs.search ``` // 19. clear notes `/^(?:clear|erase|empty|delete)\s+(?:the\s+)?(notes?|memo|notepad)$/` → notes.clearAll? Destructive — reply confirming? I'll make it clear ALL notes with a dramatic confirmation? Agent asks "Delete N notes? say 'confirm'"? Adds state complexity. Simpler: cap deletes all + toast; tell: "Wiped N notes from /notes. (They were only on this device anyway.)" — acceptable in a demo; maybe keep delete-current only... I'll implement clearAll honestly with the count. OK. // 20. delete note by title: `/^delete (?:the )?note (?:called )?["']?([\w \-]+)["']?$/` → notes.delete(title). Include? cheap to add via FS. Yes. // 21. uptime/sysinfo? "system info" → tell about runtime: navigator.platform? platform strings fine (not collection, it's local display): "runtime: your browser · cores: N · memory: ~GB"? navigator.hardwareConcurrency & deviceMemory (chrome) — reading locally to display = fine, no transmission. Fun sysinfo. Add intent: `/^(system info|sysinfo|specs|about this (system|machine|device))$/` → reply with mono list: runtime, cores, memory(GB if available), languages, UA? UA string is messy; skip UA, show platform-ish. Keep: cores, memory, screen size, timezone, localStorage usage bytes. Nice. // 22. fallback Unknown → reply with: "I parsed that but couldn't map it to an action..." Better: "I don't know how to “X” yet. I can: open apps, write notes, calculate, set timers, play synth, search files — try “help”." Include closest suggestion via simple keyword overlap? Keep simple: generic fallback with hint + repeat-as-quote. Vary 2-3 templates. Also empty input → ignore. splitClauses: split by `\bthen\b|\band (?:then )?|;|\band\b|,|&` — careful about "and" inside note body ("milk, coffee, batteries" in note body!). Ugh: "write a note called errands with milk, coffee, batteries" — the comma would split into "write a note called errands with milk" + "coffee" + "batteries" → two unknown clauses! Must protect: don't split on commas when inside a clause that's going to be a note... but clause splitting happens before intent parsing. Solution: smarter splitting: only split on `,` if the following text starts with a *command verb* (open|close|write|create|make|calc|compute|play|stop|set|start|cancel|read|show|list|find|search|run|add|append|save|note|delete|clear|erase|what|who|how|when|help|hi|hello...). That heuristic works well. Similarly for "and": split only if following word is a command verb or pronoun-ish ("then", "it")... "and save the result" → "save" is verb ✓. "milk and coffee" → "coffee" not verb ✗ (no split). "open notes and write hello" → "write" verb ✓. "calculate 2+2 and save it" → "save" ✓. Also "then" always splits? "then" rarely in bodies; still apply verb check too for safety ("write a note about then and now"? edge, rare — apply verb check anyway: "then and now" → "and" not followed by verb → no split; fine). Split regex approach: iterate with regex `/\b(then|and|,|;|&)\s+/gi` and lookahead capture; manual scan: ```js function splitClauses(s){ const out=[]; let cur=''; const parts = s.split(/\b(then|and)\b|(,|;|&)/i)... ``` Simpler: split into tokens by separators keeping separators: `s.split(/(\bthen\b|\band\b|,|;|&)/i)` then walk: accumulate; when separator found, check next non-empty token's first word against VERBS list; if yes → close clause; else append separator + continue. VERBS: open, launch, start, run, close, quit, kill, exit, hide, minimize, write, create, make, new, add, append, note, take, calc, calculate, compute, play, cue, stop, pause, set, start, cancel, clear, read, show, list, find, search, save, delete, erase, wipe, remind, what, whats, who, when, help,hi,hello, hey, tell, print, echo, mute, volume, type, exec, clean, tidy, thanks, thank. Also "it"? "calculate x and it..."? skip. Good. Also handle "please" stripping: `low = low.replace(/^please\s+/,'')` and trailing "please". **Executor**: ```js async run(text, {fromBoot=false}={}){ push user msg const parsed = this.parse(text) // {steps, preReply?} if(parsed.preReply){ agentSay(parsed.preReply, parsed.list?) ; return } if(!parsed.steps.length){ agentSay(fallback(text)); return } const planCard = renderPlan(parsed.steps) const t0=performance.now() const results=[] for(const [i,step] of parsed.steps.entries()){ trace.start(i) ; await sleep(rand(260,520)) // visible pacing try { const obs = await this.exec(step); trace.done(i, obs.msg); results.push({step, obs, ok:true}) } catch(e){ trace.fail(i, e.message); results.push({step,obs:{msg:e.message},ok:false}); /* continue or abort? abort remaining */ break? } } ``` On step failure: abort remaining steps + agent says partial. Continue if failure is "soft"? Keep abort with report. exec(step): ``` if(step.app==='system') return SYSTEM[step.fn](step.args) if(step.app==='wm') return WM[step.fn](step.args) // open/minimizeAll: returns {msg} else: const app = WM.ensure(step.app) // open+focus window (if not open); returns caps return await APPS[step.app].caps[step.fn](step.args, {agent:true}) ``` Each cap returns {ok, msg, value?}. On ok:false → throw Error(msg) or return and mark failed? I'll have caps return {ok:false, msg} → exec throws AgentError(msg) → trace.fail shows msg. Pacing: after done, tiny sleep(120). After loop: elapsed = (now-t0); compose reply: - find first step with tell → reply = tell(resultMapForThatStep)? tells need access to their own obs. reply = step.tell?.(obs.value ?? obs) — design caps to return value as the meaningful payload and tell uses it. - else default: join msgs: craft sentence: "Done — " + msgs joined with ', then ' ... Let me craft: msgs are short phrases like "opened Notes", "wrote “Errands” (32 chars)". Compose: capitalize first, join with "; " + final ".\n"? Or multiline with "→" list? Prose single paragraph: `Done — opened Notes, wrote "Errands" (3 items), and left a timer at 00:05:00.` I'll make msgs sentence fragments (lowercase start, no period) and join: `${msgs.join(', ')}.` with special last "and"? "a, b and c" — implement joinAnd(). Prefix variants: "Done —", "All set —", "That's done —", random. Failed step: reply prefix "I got partway — <done msgs>; then <fail msg>." plus suggestion. Also update agent status indicator states: idle → thinking (during parse+render, ~300ms) → executing → done (flash ok). Menubar dot color: idle faint, executing amber pulse. **Trace UI**: plan card element created in stream: ``` <div class="plan"> <div class="plan-head">TASK 03 — 3 STEPS</div> rows... <div class="plan-foot">1.24s · 0 requests · all local</div> </div> ``` Rows built upfront with status ○; update classes. **Window manager**: ```js const WM = { wins: new Map(), z: 10, ensure(appId, opts) → open if closed, focus, return app instance open(appId): if exists → restore+focus; else createWindow(app) createWindow(app): builds chrome, calls app.mount(bodyEl), positions cascade: pos = {x: 90+n*36, y: 60+n*30} clamp; randomize slight focus(win): z++, classes, titlebar active, dock dot minimize(win): hide with anim (scale .96 fade), dock dot hollow close(win): app.destroy?.(), remove, dock dot off } ``` Drag: titlebar pointerdown → capture, move dx/dy (pointermove on window), clamp to desktop bounds (y>=0? keep titlebar visible: y between 0 and desktopH-40). Also dblclick titlebar → maximize? toggle size (store prev rect). Nice touch, cheap. Resize: handle 16×16 bottom-right corner (plus right/bottom edges? just corner for simplicity), pointer capture, min w/h per app. Focus on pointerdown anywhere in window (capture phase before app handlers — use mousedown on win with `win.style.zIndex++`). Desktop click empty → nothing (or deselect). **App registry**: ```js const APPS = { agent:{title:'OTTO — AGENT', icon:'spark', w:420, h:560, mount, caps?...}, terminal:{title:'TERMINAL', icon:'term', w:560,h:400, mount, caps:{run}}, notes:{...caps}, calc, synth, timers, files } ``` Each app module: `mount(body, win)` sets up DOM+state, exposes caps object + destroy. Caps receive `(args, ctx)` and must do UI updates. All app state kept in module closures. **Boot**: overlay covering desktop: black, mono lines appended quickly (each ~90ms): ``` OTTO KERNEL 1.0.4 — cold boot mounting virtual filesystem ..... ok starting agent runtime ........... ok loading applications ............. ok [terminal notes calc synth timers files] audio engine ..................... standby network interfaces ............... none (offline by design) telemetry collectors ............. 0 found ``` then "handing off to you ↓" fade out overlay (600ms), open Agent window + welcome message typed. Also open terminal? Just agent; desktop shows watermark + dock. Maybe also pre-open nothing else — user explores. Good. Boot also seeds FS if first run; persists. Welcome message (typed): "Hello. I'm OTTO — the agent that lives in this machine. Everything I do happens on this device: no servers, no accounts, no data leaving the tab. Give me a task in plain words and I'll operate the apps myself — watch the windows move. Try: “open notes and write a note about today” — or tap a suggestion below." Then 3 suggestion chips (clickable lines, mono, underline on hover): - `open notes and write a note about today's plan` - `calculate 128 * 46 then save the result as a note` - `set a timer for 10 seconds and play night drive` - `what's on my notes?` These fill+submit composer on click (or just fill? Submit directly = immediate demo. Fill + submit. Yes — instant gratification. Maybe fill only, so user sees text and presses enter? Auto-submit is more magical. I'll auto-submit.) Careful: suggestion #3 combines timer + play — parser handles both clauses. **Agent greeting variants** by time of day for the "hi" intent: "Evening. What are we working on?" etc. Now details for each app's caps: NOTES caps: - `create({title, body})`: ensure window open (executor ensures), create note object {id, title, body, mtime}, prepend to list, select it, if body: stream-type into textarea (await typewriter), save → FS.write('/notes/'+slug+'.txt', body) (async-ish sync), return {msg:`wrote note “${title}” (${body.length} chars)`, value:{title, body, path}}. If no body: "created empty note “title”". - Title collision: append " ·2"? or overwrite? If exists: append suffix " (2)". Simple: if title exists → title += ` — ${HH:MM}`? I'll do suffix with counter. - `append({title?, text})`: find by title (ci) or use active/last; if not found → create with title, body=text (msg notes this); else body = body + (body? '\n':'') + text; select; type animation of just appended part? Simpler: set value and flash; typing animation only for creates (append instant + scroll to end). Save FS. msg. - `read()`: return {title of last, body} — used for "what's on my notes" (list cap better). `list()`: return array summaries → tell builds prose. Actually implement cap `list()` returning {notes:[{title, body, mtime}]} value; msg: `read N notes`. tell: prose. Hmm tell needs value; executor passes obs.value to tell. Fine. - `clearAll()`: removes all notes + FS /notes cleared. msg `wrote over...`→ `wiped N notes`. - `delete({title})`. Note typing: typewriter(el, text, {cps: 60}) — el is textarea: set value progressively value += ch; scroll to bottom; awaiting sleep per char with speed ~ 18ms/char → for 100 chars = 1.8s ok; for 400 chars = 7s too slow → adaptive: cps = clamp(text.length/1.6, 30, 140)? target ≤ ~2.5s: interval = min(24, 2400/len). Also allow skip: if user clicks anywhere → finish instantly? add flag; fine without. CALC caps: - `evaluate({expr})`: open window (ensure), focus; animate: set display to expr with quick type (30ms/char? expression short — type at 28ms), then 350ms pause, compute via parser (try/catch → throw 'I couldn't parse “expr” as math'), animate '=': result display flash amber; push history. sleep total ~1s. return {msg:`calculated ${expr} = ${fmt}`, value:result}. - Also cap `press({key})`? skip. SYNTH caps: - `play({track, dur?})`: ensure window; if track unknown → error msg listing tracks; start engine (AudioContext resume), select track UI; msg `started “NIGHT DRIVE” (112 BPM) live`; if dur → setTimeout stop (register so stop cancels); value {name, bpm, dur}. - `stop()`: stop scheduler; msg `stopped the music` (if not playing: 'the synth was already quiet' ok). - `volume({v})`: clamp 0-100; msg `set volume to N%`. Engine: lazily create ctx on first play. Track scheduler with setInterval(25ms) lookahead .12s: schedule steps: lead osc (type per track) freq from midi, gain envelope (attack .005 decay), bass (square/triangle, -12), hat (noise buffer highpass). Per-track patterns arrays length 16: `lead:[57,null,60,...]` (midi), `bass:[...]`, `hat:[1,0,0,1...]` 16 steps, bpm. Also delay node feedback for space (lead → delay .28 → fb .35 → master). Master gain from volume slider. Analyser → canvas draw loop (rAF while window open & playing? draw always when window open, flat line when silent). Stop: clear interval, stop pending? Oscillators are short-lived per note; just stop scheduling + maybe fade master? ok. TIMERS caps: - `set({seconds, label})`: ensure window; create {id, end: now+ms, label, total}; rAF/interval tick updates rows (single interval for all timers 250ms); ring progress = remaining/total; on end → alarm beep (3 short beeps), toast `⏱ timer “label” finished`... no emoji — toast with icon svg? toasts plain text + small icon use `<svg><use>`. toast('Timer done — “stretch”'), remove row. msg: `set a ${fmtDur} timer${label? ' — “'+label+'”':''}`. - `list()`: returns remaining array (for "what timers"). - `cancelAll()`: count, clear, msg. Also "what timers are running" intent → list. TERMINAL caps: - `run({cmd})`: ensure window; animate typing of cmd into input (fast 24ms/char), then execute (same path as user Enter), await? Terminal command execution may print async; make `run` synchronous-ish: executeCommand returns after printing (commands are sync except `agent ...` which delegates to Agent.run — for agent-from-terminal, just fire Agent.run and terminal prints "delegated to OTTO ↗"). return {msg:`ran \`${cmd}\` in the terminal`}. Terminal `open x` command reuses WM.open. FILES caps: - `search({term})`: walk FS files, find term in name/body (ci); return matches [{path, snippet}]; msg `searched the filesystem for “term” — N hits`; tell prose listing top hits with snippet (truncate). - `read({path})`: return content. SYSTEM caps: - `clock()`: return {time: HH:MM:SS, date: 'Mon, 16 Jun 2025'}; msg 'read the clock'. - `wait({sec})`: sleep — for "wait 2 seconds then..."? fun; add intent `/^wait\s+(\d+)\s*(units)?$/` → system.wait. msg `waited Ns`. WM caps: - `open({app})`, `minimizeAll()` (msg 'tidied the desktop — N windows tucked away'), `close({app})`. Now, agent replies library (serif italic voice). Write with personality: dry, precise, a little warm, machine-aware. E.g.: - greeting morning: "Morning. The machine's warm and idle — what should I do first?" - identity: "I'm OTTO — a small agent that runs entirely on this device. No cloud, no accounts, nothing I do leaves this window. I drive the apps you see: terminal, notes, calculator, synth, timers, files. Tell me what you want in plain words." - help: list of capabilities (mono list below prose): ``` · open / close / tidy apps — “open the terminal”, “tidy the desktop” · write & search notes — “write a note called errands: milk, coffee” · calculate & chain — “calc 128*46 then save the result as a note” · timers — “set a timer for 5 minutes to stretch” · music — “play night drive”, “stop the music” · filesystem — “search files for OTTO” ``` Render list as mono lines in agent msg (mixed typography: prose serif + list mono — nice). - fallback: variants: "Hmm — “X” isn't something I have hands for yet. Try “help” to see what I can do." / "I couldn't map that to any of my tools. Closest I get: …(suggest by keyword?)". Keep simple + one example. Composing prose: helper `cap(text)` capitalize. joinAnd(arr): a; a and b; a, b and c. Now **CSS architecture**: Custom properties: ```css --bg:#0d0c0a; --panel:#131210; --panel2:#191713; --line:#2a2721; --line2:#3a362c; --ink:#e8e2d5; --dim:#a49c8c; --faint:#6b6456; --amber:#ffb224; --amber-dim:#8a6a1e?; --red:#ff5b45; --mono: ui-monospace, "SF Mono", "Cascadia Mono", "JetBrains Mono", Menlo, Consolas, monospace; --serif: "Georgia", "Iowan Old Style", "Times New Roman", serif; ``` Hmm — serif stack: Georgia is fine and warm, but "Instrument Serif" via CDN would be more distinctive... but I decided zero external requests for honesty of the "0 requests" badge! Fonts would be external requests → badge would show 2 requests → undermines the story. So system fonts it is — and the badge stays truthfully 0. Georgia italic for agent voice: actually Georgia italic is quite handsome. Mono: ui-monospace (SF Mono on mac, Cascadia/Consolas on win, Menlo fallback). Good enough, and "no external anything" is a stronger product promise. Decision: **fully offline app, zero network requests — even fonts**. The menubar badge "0 requests · offline" is real. Background: desktop bg #0d0c0a with dot grid: `background-image: radial-gradient(circle, #1b1915 1px, transparent 1px); background-size: 26px 26px;` — subtle. Plus vignette? skip. Windows: bg var(--panel) border 1px var(--line2); box-shadow: `0 24px 60px -20px rgba(0,0,0,.7)` + focused: border-color #4a4436; titlebar: 36px, bg #161411, bottom border; app icon 14px amber stroke when focused? Titlebar text 11px mono uppercase ls .12em dim; focused → ink. Controls right: two 22px square buttons hover bg. Focus glow: NO glow. Focused = slightly brighter border + titlebar accent: small amber square/dot left of title. Good. Dock: fixed bottom center; panel with border; icons 38px buttons with svg 18px; hover: bg #1b1916, icon amber; tooltip via ::after data-tip. Menubar: height 34px, bg rgba(13,12,10,.9) blur? backdrop-filter blur(8px) saturate—fine, border-bottom line. Left: mark + "OTTO/OS" wordmark: mark = small SVG asterisk-spark in amber. Then a divider and mono tiny "LOCAL RUNTIME — 0 BYTES SENT". Right: net badge button, sound toggle, agent status, clock (mono 12px), date dim. Actually order: `[✳ OTTO/OS] [net: 0 req · offline] [sound] ..... [agent: IDLE] [12:04:33] [TUE 16 JUN]`. Net badge: small pill border line, dot green? green adds color — use amber dim dot + text "NET 0 REQ". Click → popover panel (fixed under menubar right) explaining: "Runtime tripwire: fetch, XHR, WebSocket and sendBeacon are wrapped. Any outbound attempt is logged here. Count this session: 0." + list (empty state "no attempts — nothing has left this machine"). Cool trust artifact. I'll implement popover toggle. Agent status in menubar: dot + label IDLE/THINKING/RUNNING (mono 10px); click opens agent window. Toasts: bottom-right? top-right under menubar. bg panel border, mono 12px, left amber bar 2px, slide-in translateX. Scrollbar styling: thin, `::-webkit-scrollbar{width:8px}` thumb #2a2721 hover #3a362c. Selection color: amber bg, black text: `::selection{background:var(--amber); color:#141210}` — nice signature. Buttons: `.btn` mono 11px uppercase border line bg transparent hover border-ink; `.btn.primary`: bg amber, color #141210, hover brightness .95? Keep flat. Inputs: bg #0f0e0c, border line, focus border amber (1px), mono. Now — quantity of code is getting big. Let me estimate lines: CSS ~450, JS ~1400-1700, HTML ~120. Total ~2200-2400 lines. That's a big but deliverable file. I need to be careful and consistent. Let me write it carefully, mentally testing key flows. Let me nail down tricky implementation details: **Expression parser** (calculator): ```js function evalExpr(src){ const s = src.replace(/[×x]/gi,'*').replace(/÷/g,'/').replace(/−/g,'-').replace(/\s+/g,''); let i=0; const peek=()=>s[i], eat=c=>{ if(s[i]===c){i++;return true} return false }; function num(){ let st=i; while(/[\d.]/.test(s[i]))i++; const v=parseFloat(s.slice(st,i)); if(isNaN(v)) throw 0; return v } function factor(){ if(eat('(')){ const v=expr(); if(!eat(')')) throw 0; return v } if(eat('-')) return -factor(); if(eat('+')) return factor(); return num() } function power(){ let v=factor(); if(eat('^')) v=Math.pow(v,power()); return v } function term(){ let v=power(); while(true){ if(eat('*')) v*=power(); else if(eat('/')) v/=power(); else if(eat('%')) v%=power(); else break } return v } function expr(){ let v=term(); while(true){ if(eat('+')) v+=term(); else if(eat('-')) v-=term(); else break } return v } const v=expr(); if(i<s.length) throw 0; if(!isFinite(v)) throw 0; return v } ``` Precedence: ^ binds tighter than * but I put power above term with right-assoc — 2^3^2 = 2^9 correct-ish. Fine. Note: `-2^2` → -factor → -(2^2)=-4 fine. **Terminal**: State: cwd='/'. FS structure: I'll represent FS as nested object: ```js FS.root = { type:'dir', children:{ 'readme.txt':{type:'file',body:'...'}, notes:{type:'dir',children:{}}, system:{...}, } } ``` Helpers: FS.resolve(path, cwd) → normalized parts; FS.get(path) → node; FS.writeFile(path, body) creates parents; FS.appendFile; FS.list(path) → entries sorted dirs first; FS.delete(path). Seed: ``` /readme.txt: OTTO/OS — local agentic runtime This machine has no network stack in use, no accounts, no sync. Everything you see lives in this tab's memory (notes are kept on-device in local storage, and never leave it). Talk to the agent — it drives every app here. /system/manifest.txt: list of apps + capabilities /system/log.txt: appended agent actions /music/tracks.txt: 3 tracks described ``` `log.txt` — FS.appendFile('/system/log.txt', `[HH:MM:SS] agent: <task>\n`) each run. Terminal `cat /system/log.txt` shows history — great "proof of work" touch. Terminal printing: div lines appended; `print(text, cls)` supports multi-line split. Prompt line: `<span class=p>guest@otto</span><span class=d>:</span><span class=p2>/notes</span>$ <cmd>`. Colors: user@host amber, path dim. Commands table for `help`: ``` ls · cd · cat · echo [> file] · touch · rm · mkdir? (skip mkdir? include, cheap) · open · close · apps · calc · play · stop · timer · agent · clear · date · whoami · sysinfo · help · reset ``` Implement each. `agent <text>` → WM.open('agent') + Agent.run(text). `open notes` → WM.open (with toast?). `calc 2+2` → evalExpr print. `timer 30 [label]` → Timers app cap? call APPS.timers.caps.set without opening window? Opening window on terminal timer command is good feedback — call cap which ensures window. `play`/`stop` similar via caps. `echo hi > /notes/x.txt`: parse redirect. Also terminal `theme`? skip. `reset` → localStorage.clear + reload (confirm inline: "type reset again to wipe" — implement two-step: if last command was reset, do it). History: array + idx. Keyboard: Enter run; ArrowUp/Down history; Ctrl+L clear? nice: keydown 'l' with ctrl → clear. Tab → autocomplete? skip (scope). Click anywhere in terminal focuses input. **Calculator UI**: display area: expr line (dim, small) + result line (large mono 26px). Actually model: single display showing current expr; on '=' show result below? I'll do: top small history row (last 3 "12×8 = 96"), main display (expr, right-aligned, 24px), when '=' pressed: expr moves small to top line? Simple approach: display shows expr; on '=' → display shows result, expr stored to history; new digit starts fresh. Standard. Keypad grid 4 cols; buttons flat, operators column amber? Operators (÷×−+=) amber text. Buttons: hover bg #1c1a16; active press translateY(1px). `=` button amber filled. Keyboard: when window focused and no input focused: digits, ops, Enter==, Backspace, Escape=C. Attach keydown on window body (tabindex). Careful not to hijack when typing in other windows — only calc window has keydown listener (focused window concept: WM tracks focused app; calc listens on its own body element which receives keydown when it has tabindex and user clicked... DOM focus: clicking window body focuses its tabindex element → keydown lands there. OK). Display font: mono 26px. Also show live "ERR" state. History array [{expr, val}] max 4 shown. **Synth engine** (careful with AudioContext): ```js const Synth = { ctx:null, master, delay, playing:false, track:null, step:0, nextT:0, timer:null, ensure(){ if(!this.ctx){ this.ctx=new (AudioContext||webkitAudioContext)(); master=gain; analyser; chain: master→analyser→destination; delay feedback loop into master } if(ctx.state==='suspended') ctx.resume() }, playTrack(id){...}, stop(), schedule loop: while(nextT < ctx.currentTime+0.15){ scheduleStep(step, nextT); nextT += 60/bpm/4; step=(step+1)%16 }, scheduleStep(i,t){ const tr=TRACKS[this.track]; note(tr.lead[i], t, 'lead'); ... }, note(midi,t,role){ if(midi==null) return; osc type per role&track; gain env: g.gain.setValueAtTime(0,t); linearRamp to .x at t+.01; expRamp to .0001 at t+dur; connect → per-role bus (lead→delay too) } hat(t): noise buffer source (create once 0.2s buffer), highpass 6000, short env. } ``` Volume: master.gain = (v/100)^2 * 0.9. Tracks: - NIGHT DRIVE: bpm 104, lead saw arp Am: [57,60,64,69, 57,60,64,67, 55,59,62,67, 57,60,64,69]? let me define pleasant dark arp: A minor: steps: [45? no that's bass]. lead: [57,63,64,69, 57,63,64,71, 57,63,65,69, 57,63,64,67]? Eh — I'll write something plausible: A C E A' / G C E B'? Let me use pattern arrays with midi: lead: [69,null,64,67, 69,null,72,67, 69,null,64,67, 71,72,71,67] — noodly. Honestly any coherent pattern works; I'll craft: Am7 arp up: 57,60,64,67 repeated with variation and Fmaj7: 53? Let me do 16 steps: [57,60,64,69, 57,60,64,67, 55,59,62,67, 55,59,62,64] (Am, Am, G, G). bass: [33,null,null,null, 33,null,null,null, 31,null,null,null, 31,null,null,null] (A1, G1). hat on offbeats: [0,0,1,0, 0,0,1,0, ...]. wave saw. - SUNROOM (rename SUNROOM): bpm 84, triangle, warm: lead: [64,null,67,69, null,72,69,67, 65,null,69,72, null,74,72,69]? C major-ish (C E G A C'...): steps: [60,64,67,72, 64,67,72,76, 65,69,72,77, 67,71,74,79]? too dense; keep: lead sparse: [72,null,67,null, 64,null,67,null, 69,null,64,null, 60,null,64,null]? bass: [36,null,null,null, 36,..., 41,...]. wave triangle, no hat? soft hat every 4th. - MACHINE HUM: bpm 122, square, minimal: lead: [45,null,45,null, 45,null,45,45, 43,null,43,null, 45,null,45,null]? more techno: lead mostly null with stabs: [null,null,67,null, null,67,null,null, null,null,70,null, 67,null,72,null]? bass driving 8ths: [36,36,36,36, 36,36,36,36, 34,34,34,34, 36,36,36,36]? Hmm 16 steps of 16th at 122 = driving. bass square low gain. hat every other 16th + snare-ish? keep hat pattern [1,0,1,0...]. Fine — details flexible; make them sound decent: use envelopes, lowpass filter on lead (create per-note BiquadFilter lowpass 1800Hz? or one shared). I'll give lead osc → per-note gain → shared lowpass(2200) → delay+master. Bass → master direct (gain low .18). Hat → hp → master gain .12. UI: track rows (name, bpm, key) selectable; when playing, current step LED row: 16 tiny squares showing step position (only when playing). Transport buttons: play/pause toggle + stop. Volume slider (input range styled: track 2px line, thumb square amber). Visualizer canvas 100%×64: draw waveform stroke amber 1.5px, bg transparent; rAF loop always running while window open (cheap), line flat when idle. Duration param: `play({track, dur})`: if dur → Synth.stopTimer = setTimeout(()=>Synth.stop(true), dur*1000) + report. Pause vs stop: pause suspends scheduling & keeps position? Implement pause = clear scheduler timer (keep step & resume nextT=ctx.currentTime+0.05 on resume). Stop = reset step 0 + playing=false. **Timers UI**: header row with quick-add: input (seconds like "90" or "5m"? keep numeric seconds + unit select [s/m/h]) + label input? Simplify: presets row buttons [30s][1m][5m][10m] + custom small input? Agent mostly creates timers; manual: presets + label optional. I'll do: row: [30s] [1m] [5m] [10m] buttons + "＋ custom" → inline mini-form (input seconds + input label + add). Keep compact: a single input accepting "5m 30s"? parsing robust: `parseDurText("1m30s")`. One input + Add button + optional label field. OK: two inputs: duration text (e.g., "90s", "5m", "1h 20m") + label; Add. Presets as buttons filling input+add. Row render: [ring svg 34px][label + remaining mono][cancel ×]. Ring: circle stroke-dasharray updated in tick loop (single rAF/interval 200ms). Expired: flash amber row 3 beeps, toast, remove after 2.4s. **Notes UI**: left list width 170px: rows (title 13px serif? titles in mono 12px; time dim 10px). + New button top. Editor: title input (borderless, mono 14px) + body textarea (serif 15px? Notes written by human in serif feels journaly — but mono is "machine"... Notes app = human content: body in serif 15.5px lh 1.75, title mono. I like the mixed system: human content serif, machine chrome mono. Consistent with agent voice rule!). Footer: "saved · 14:32 · 128 chars · /notes/errands.txt". Delete button (small × in header). Autosave: on input debounce 500ms → FS.write + save state; indicator "SAVED ✓"→ just text "saved". Notes persistence: notes stored in FS /notes/*.txt — but notes app also needs title+order metadata... derive from files: title = filename. Simpler: notes ARE files; app reads FS /notes dir; each file body; title = name without .txt; mtime stored as file.mtime. New note: filename = slug(title)||'note-HHMMSS'. When agent renames? no rename. Title edits in UI: rename file? Implement: on title blur/change → rename file (FS.move). OK manageable. Or keep notes separate from FS but mirrored... I'll make notes = FS files, rename supported via FS.move (children key swap). List order by mtime desc. Agent create: uses FS.write + opens app. Typing animation targets textarea after selecting note. **Files UI**: left tree (folders expandable, files), right preview (name, size, mtime, body in mono pre, or serif? preview in mono pre for files; but notes preview... same). Tree: rows indent 14px per depth, folder ▸/▾ svg caret, file icon. Click file → preview. Buttons top: "＋ FILE" → prompt? no prompt() — inline mini-form: input path + create. Keep: new file button → inline form row appears. Also refresh not needed (event-driven re-render on FS change via FS.onChange callbacks). FS change events: FS.emit('change') → Files rerender tree, Notes refresh list, Terminal? nothing. **Agent window layout**: - header strip? window titlebar is chrome already. Body: stream (flex column, gap, overflow auto, padding 14px) + composer (border-top): input (mono) + run button (amber). Under composer? Above input: hint line? Keep clean. - user msg: right-aligned block: mono 12.5px, bg #191713, border line, padding 8 10, max-width 85%, border-radius 3px? sharp-ish 4px. Prefix `»`? Style: label "YOU" tiny above? I'll do aligned-right chip with dim mono. Hmm user messages in mono chip, agent in serif italic — good contrast. - agent msg: no bubble — open layout: small spark icon + "OTTO" label 10px mono amber, then serif italic 15px lh 1.65 ink text, maybe with amber left border? Keep borderless + label. Lists inside: mono 12px dim lines with `·`. - plan card: bordered box (line2) bg #100f0d: header mono 10px dim "TASK · 3 STEPS" + rows: each row: index (dim 10px), verb label mono 12px, detail dim, status right: `·` queued faint → `▸` running amber + subtle blink → `✓` done amber → `✕` failed red. Row done: label ink, detail dim. Footer: meta mono 10px faint. - observation lines: within plan rows (detail = result msg truncated). Separate obs msg maybe merged into row result text. Row right shows status glyph; row second line? Keep single line with wrap: `[01] notes.write — “errands” · 32 chars ✓`. Two-line layout: line1: verb + args; line2 (indent): result dim 11.5px. Cleaner. Typing indicator: when thinking: agent msg area shows "OTTO" + three dots pulse (css animation) then replaced by text. Cute but maybe too chatty — I'll show inline in plan header "OTTO IS WORKING" pulse. Keep: during execution, plan header shows `RUNNING · 2/3` updating; status dot in menubar pulses. **Composer behavior**: Enter → run; disable button while busy? Queue: if busy, push to queue, show small "queued" note? Simpler: allow input, on submit if busy → toast "I'm still on the previous task — queued it." and run after. Implement queue array; runner processes. And button label changes to "RUN…" disabled? Keep enabled w/ queue logic. Fine: `if(this.busy){queue.push; toast; return}`. **Status flow**: Agent.status('thinking'|'running'|'idle') updates menubar dot + label. **global functions sleep(rand)** etc. **Anti-XHR tripwire**: ```js const NET = { attempts:[], wrapped:false, wrap(){ try{ const of_ = window.fetch; window.fetch=(...a)=>{NET.hit('fetch',a[0]); return of_.apply(window,a)} }catch{} wrap XHR open, WebSocket constructor, sendBeacon, EventSource } hit(kind, url){ attempts.push({kind,url:String(url),t:Date.now()}); badge count; toast warn "Outbound network attempt intercepted — blocked at the surface." (won't happen; toast only if real)} } ``` Since our app never calls these, count stays 0. Badge shows `NET 0 REQ`. Popover on click: explains + shows attempts list (if any) + note about fonts/offline. Also update menubar badge text from `NET.attempts.length` live. This is honest: wrapping doesn't block actually (fetch would proceed if something called it) — but *we* never call it; the tripwire is an alarm, and I'll phrase popover: "wrapped & alarmed: any outbound call would appear here. Count: 0." To be extra true "no data leaves", I could make the wrapper *throw* → actually block: `return Promise.reject(new Error('offline by design'))`? For fetch that's a real block. XHR: `xhr.abort()`? Making them hard-block is stronger: fetch → throw; XHR open → mark then send throws; WS → throw. But if some browser extension... whatever. I'll implement blocking wrappers: fetch returns rejected promise with message "OTTO/OS: network disabled by user policy (offline mode)". That makes it REAL: nothing can leave. Also `navigator.sendBeacon` → return false. Nice: popover says "intercepted and disabled — 0 attempts". If count>0 show red badge `NET 1 REQ ⚠`. This is a genuinely cool honesty feature and fully local. **localStorage persistence**: key 'otto.fs.v1'. Save FS (notes + user files; skip? save whole FS, small) debounced 400ms. Load on boot: if saved → use, else seed. `reset` command wipes. Also persist... agent chat? no (session-only, fine). Mention in Files preview of readme. localStorage availability: file:// pages sometimes restrict? It works on file:// in most browsers (Chrome allows localStorage for file://). Wrap in try/catch — if unavailable, run memory-only with a system note. Fine. **Slug util**: slugify title → 'errands-milk' fallback 'note'. **fmtDur(s)**: `2m 30s`, `45s`, `1h 5m`. **fmtClock(d)**: HH:MM:SS. **fmtDate**: `TUE 16 JUN`? `Tue 16 Jun 2025`? menubar: `16 JUN · 14:02:33`? I'll show time HH:MM:SS + `TUE 16 JUN`. **Uptime**: boot timestamp. Now — the watermark on desktop: bottom-left: ``` OTTO/OS 1.0 — local agentic runtime every app is native · zero network · zero telemetry ``` mono 10px faint. Keep each 1-2 paths, hand-writable. **Window chrome buttons**: minimize (–) and close (×) as separate small buttons using svg use icons 10px. **Drag implementation**: ```js function makeDraggable(win, handle){ handle.addEventListener('pointerdown', e=>{ if(e.target.closest('.wbtn'))return; WM.focus(win); const r=win.getBoundingClientRect(); const dx=e.clientX-r.left, dy=e.clientY-r.top; const move=ev=>{ let x=ev.clientX-dx, y=ev.clientY-dy; x=clamp(x, -r.width+60, desk.clientWidth-40); y=clamp(y, 34, desk.clientHeight-40); win.style.left=x+'px'; win.style.top=y+'px' }; ...pointermove on window, pointerup removes; setPointerCapture on handle } ``` Use `document.addEventListener('pointermove')` during drag. Also resize handle: 14px corner div bottom-right, similar min sizes. While dragging, disable text selection (user-select none on body during drag). **WM**: ```js const WM = { wins:new Map(), z:10, open(id, opts){ const app=APPS[id]; if(this.wins.has(id)){ this.focus(id); if minimized restore; return } create window el: titlebar(icon, title, btns) + body (app.mount) ; position cascade: base centered-ish offset by count*24; size from app.w/h; desk.append; animate .open; register; dock update; app.onOpen?.() } focus(id){ z++; el.style.zIndex; classes; dock active state } minimize(id), restore, close(id){ app.destroy?.(); el.remove(); map.delete; dock update } minimizeAll() } ``` Cascade: compute count of open wins for offset; default positions: agent window maybe right side? Initial boot: open Agent window centered-left (e.g., x = 64? sizes: agent 460×560 at left? On smaller screens adapt: use min(desk dims). Let me set agent default: left 40? and also open... boot opens only Agent + maybe Terminal? A nice first impression: open Agent (main) + Terminal slightly behind right + Notes? Too busy. Boot: Agent window only, positioned center-left; dock visible with everything else. Hmm — for instant wow, maybe open Agent + Synth? No. Agent alone with welcome task suggestions; user clicks. But "alive" first impression could include a subtle boot sequence animation (overlay) — that covers it. Position defaults per app: agent {x:60,y:70,w:520,h:600}; terminal {x:120,y:120,w:640,h:380}; notes {x:180,y:90,w:640,h:440}; calc {x:...,w:300,h:420}; synth {w:420,h:470}; timers {w:420,h:420}; files {w:640,h:420}. Cascade offsets for repeats. Clamp positions to viewport. For small screens (mobile): windows maximized-ish? Mobile support for window mgmt is heavy; I'll make windows width ≤ desk width (clamp) and allow drag; acceptable. Add meta viewport. Mobile: dock + windows with 92% width, draggable still ok-ish. Won't perfect it. **Dock**: order: agent, terminal, notes, calc, synth, timers, files. Running indicator: 3px amber dot under icon when open. Click: open/focus/restore. Active (focused) style: icon amber. Now **Agent parser code** — the heart. Let me write it thoroughly with all intents. I'll write `interpret(text)` returning `{steps:[], direct?:replyString, meta}` where direct replies (greeting/help) skip execution. Steps: {app, fn, args, label}. Let me enumerate final intent list with handlers (order matters): ``` 0. normalize: t=clause.trim(); low=t.toLowerCase() empty → skip 1. identity: /^(who|what) (are|r) (you|u)\b|what is otto|yourself|introduce/ → direct identityReply 2. help: /^(help|what can you do|commands|capabilit|how do i|what do you do)/ → direct helpReply (prose + mono list) 3. greeting: /^(hi|hello|hey|yo|hiya|good (morning|afternoon|evening)|sup)\b/ → direct greeting (time-aware) 4. thanks/ack: /^(thanks|thank you|thx|nice|cool|great|good (job|work)|awesome|perfect|well done)/ → direct ack 5. route verb words normalization: replace "please" etc. Also "otto, ..." prefix strip: /^otto[,!:. ]+/i Also polite strip: /^(please|can you|could you|would you|i want you to|i'd like you to|let's|lets)\s+/ repeatedly. 6. open app: m=low.match(/^(open|launch|start|show|bring up|fire up|spawn|boot)\s+(?:up\s+|the\s+|my\s+)?(app\s+)?([\w-]+)/) app=synonyms[m[3]] (strip trailing 's'? notes already listed; handle 'notebook'? add). If m[3] in apps → step wm.open. If m[3]==='everything'? no. If unknown → check close pattern first? Order: check open before others. Also "show me my notes" → that's open notes OR read notes... "show my notes" ambiguous: read? I'll treat "show/open X" as open app; "what's in my notes" as read. "show me the files" open files. 7. minimize/tidy: /^(minimi[sz]e|hide)\s+(the\s+)?([\w-]+)/ → wm.minimize app; /^(tidy|clean)( up)?( the)? (desktop|screen|windows)?/ or "close everything"/"hide everything" → wm.minimizeAll. Also "focus"? skip. 8. close app: /^(close|quit|kill|shut( down)?|exit)\s+(?:the\s+)?([\w-]+)/ → app synonym → wm.close. ("exit" alone? if bare "exit"/"quit" no app → reply "I can't quit myself..."? fun: direct: "I'm the last thing you'd want to close — but I can tidy: try “close everything”.") 9. note create: a) /^(note|remember)(?: that)?\s+(.+)/i → title auto, body rest b) /^(write|create|make|new|add|start|draft)\s+(a\s+|an\s+|the\s+)?(new\s+)?(note|memo|reminder)\b\s*(.*)$/ rest parsing: strip leading (about|on|that says|saying|with text|with|:|-) → body; title: match (?:called|titled|named)\s+"?([^"]+?)"?\s*(?:about|that|with|:|$)\s*(.*) else if body has "about X" pattern /about\s+(.+)$/ → title=that? Hmm: "write a note about the meeting" → title "the meeting", body empty. "write a note called errands that says milk and coffee" → title errands, body milk and coffee. "write a note: hello world" → title auto? body "hello world". Rules: - extract quoted: /"([^"]+)"/ → if two quotes: title=q1 body=q2; if one: title=q1, body=rest-after-quote. - /(?:called|titled|named)\s+([\w' \-]+?)(?:\s+(?:that|which|with|about|saying|containing)\b|\s*:|\s*-\s*|$)/ → title; remainder after connector → body. - /about\s+(.+)$/ → title = words (cap 6), body='' (or title='About X'? title=the words) - /:\s*(.+)$/ → body = after colon (title auto or from earlier words?) - else body = rest if rest non-empty & doesn't look like title-only? If rest length>0 → body=rest, title auto. Title auto: first 4-5 words of body or 'Note HH:MM'. c) /^(add|append|put)\s+(.+?)\s+(?:to|in|into)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?(notes?|memo)(?:\s+(?:called|named|titled)\s+([\w' \-]+))?$/ → if title given: append to that note (if exists → append; if not → create with body) ; if title absent → append to most recent note? "add milk to my notes" → append to last active note or create. I'll append to most recent note if any, else create "List". Also if target title matches an existing note file (ci) → append there even without keyword form: pattern: /^(add|append|put)\s+(.+?)\s+to\s+([\w' \-]+)$/ where last words match existing note title → append. Try that after b. 10. save result (uses last): /^(save|store|write|put|log)\s+(?:the\s+)?(result|answer|it|that|this)\b(?:\s+(?:as|in|into|to)\s+(?:a\s+|the\s+|my\s+)?(note|memo|file)?)?/ and requires step.lastResult exists; body: `${exprStr} = ${result}` (store lastExpr too). → notes.create(title:'Result '+time? title auto 'Calc result'?) Title: 'Result — ' + expr? keep title 'result' hmm: title = `calc — ${lastExpr}`? I'll title `Result · ${lastExpr}` truncated. Or file 'results.txt' appended? Appending to /notes/results.txt? Actually nicer: append line to a running note "results". I'll create/append note titled "Results" with line `128 × 46 = 5,888 · 14:32`. Good. 11. calc: /^(?:calc(?:ulate)?|compute|evaluate|math)\s+(.+)/ or /^(?:what(?:'s| is)|how much is)\s+([-\d(].*[)\d])\??/ — require expr-ish: /[0-9]/ and only math chars: /^[\d\s+\-*/^%().×÷x]+$/ after replacing word ops. Word ops first: replace \bplus\b→+, \bminus\b→-, \btimes\b→*, \bmultiplied by\b→*, \bdivided by\b→/, \bmod(ulo)?\b→%, \bsquared\b→^2, \bto the power of\b→^? \braised to\b→^. Then validate chars. → calc.evaluate (step returns value). 12. search: /^(find|search(?: for)?|look for|grep)\s+(?:for\s+)?["']?(.+?)["']?$/ → files.search(term) — searches FS text files; if also searching notes (they're files) same thing. Reply with matches list. Also search within a specific app? no. 13. read notes: /^(what(?:'s| is)? (?:in |on )?(?:my |the )?notes?|read (?:my |the )?notes?|list (?:my |the )?notes?|show (?:my |the )?notes?\??)/ → notes.list → agent summarizes (count + titles + preview of most recent). 14. read note: /^(read|open|show|what(?:'s| is)? in)\s+(?:my |the )?(?:note )?["']?([\w' \-]+)["']?$/ where target matches a note title → notes.read(title). Conflict with "open notes" app — check: if words include 'note' and title matches existing note → read; handled in open fallback? I'll add this pattern with priority before open? "open errands" → if errands is a note → open notes app + select note (nice!). I'll do: readNote pattern: /^(?:read|open|show|view)\s+(?:the\s+)?(?:note\s+)?["']?([\w' \-]+?)["']?\??$/ → if resolved note exists → wm.open notes + notes.open(title) step. Put AFTER open-app pattern so "open notes" (app word) wins. So in open-app matcher, if m[3] not an app name → fall through to this. 15. time/date: /^(what(?:'s| is)? the time|what time|time\??|what(?:'s| is)? (?:the |today'?s )?date|date\??|what day)/ → system.clock step (returns formatted) — actually make it direct: no window needed; step {app:'system', fn:'clock'} tell: "It's 14:02:33 — Tuesday, June 16th." (with flavor variant). 16. play: /^(play|start)\b/ → parse: strip 'play'; if contains music words or track names → synth.play; else if rest matches nothing & 'play' alone → default track random. Extract `for N unit` dur. Also "play something" → random. Track name match: /night|dark|drive/ → night; /sun|warm|calm|chill|ambient|room/ → sun; /machine|hum|techno|beat|pulse/ → machine. Else unknown → if rest nonempty and not matched → direct reply "I only know three tracks..." with list? Or nearest suggestion. If rest empty → random/pick first. Also "play" could conflict with "start timer"? 'start' handled by timer pattern first? Order: timer before play. Also "start the music". 17. music stop: /^(stop|pause|halt|silence|shut)\b(?:.*?\b(music|synth|track|song|sound|beat|it|that)\b)?$/ → if music words or bare stop+context? bare "stop" → if synth playing → stop music else direct "Stop what?" I'll check: if rest contains music-ish or bare stop → synth.stop (pause semantics: stop=stop). "pause" → synth.pause. 18. volume: /^(?:set\s+)?(?:the\s+)?volume\s+(?:to\s+)?(\d{1,3})/ or /^(turn|crank)\s+(?:the\s+)?volume\s+(up|down)/ (±20) or /^(louder|quieter|softer|turn it (up|down))/ (±20) → synth.volume. 19. timer set: /^(?:set|start|create|new|put on)\s+(?:a\s+|an\s+)?(?:timer|alarm|reminder)\b/ then parse: /(?:for\s+)?([\dhms ]+?)\s*(?:\b(?:for|to)\b\s+(.+))?$/ duration parse via parseDurText (e.g., "10s", "5 min", "2 hours", "1h 20m", "90"); also "remind me in 10 minutes to stretch" pattern: /^remind me (?:in|after)\s+(.+?)\s+(?:to|that|about)\s+(.+)$/ → dur, label. Combine: general extraction: find duration anywhere: /(\d+)\s*(h|hr|hours?|m|min(?:ute)?s?|s|sec(?:ond)?s?)?/ careful. Then label = remainder minus duration words minus verbs ("for","timer","a","in","remind me","set"). Implement `extractDuration(str)` → {sec, restStr}. Then if 'remind me ... to X' → label=X. → timers.set. Also bare "timer 5 minutes"? /(?:timer|alarm)\s+(?:for\s+)?([\d\w ]+)/ covers. If no duration found → direct "how long should the timer run?" 20. timers cancel: /^(cancel|stop|clear|kill)\s+(?:all\s+|the\s+)?timers?/ → timers.cancelAll (if specific index "cancel the second timer"? skip). 21. timers list: /^(?:what |list |show )?timers?\??|how (?:many|much) time (?:is )?left/ → timers.list → summarize. 22. open-and-run terminal: /^(?:run|exec|type)\s+["']?([^"']+)["']?\s+(?:in|on)\s+(?:the\s+)?terminal/ → wm.open terminal + terminal.run(cmd). Also "type 'ls' in the terminal". 23. write file directly: /^(?:create|make|write)\s+(?:a\s+)?file\s+(?:at\s+|called\s+)?([\w\/\.\-]+)\s*(?:with|saying|containing|:)\s*(.+)$/ → fs.write. Also "save X to /path" pattern? skip extra. 24. list files: /^(?:list|ls|show)\s+(?:the\s+)?files?\??|what files/ → fs.list step → summarize tree. 25. sysinfo: /^(sysinfo|system info|about (?:this|the) (?:system|machine|os)|specs)/ → direct: runtime info (browser ua? fine local): "OTTO/OS 1.0 · runtime: <browser> · uptime Xm · storage: on-device localStorage (X KB) · network: disabled by policy". 26. wait: /^wait\s+(\d+)\s*(s|sec|seconds|m|minutes?)?/ → system.wait step (fun for choreography: "wait 3 seconds then play"). 27. Fallback: build suggestion: find closest known verb from text? Compose: "I couldn't map “<text>” to anything I can do. Here's my range: open/close apps, notes, calculator, timers, synth, files, search. Try: “...”." Also detect if it looks like a math expression containing digits+ops → try calc anyway. Nice fallback: if /[0-9]/ && /[+\-*/^]/ → calc. Also multi-language? No — English only, fine. Also fun extras: "flip a coin" → random; "roll a dice"? "pick a number 1-100"? These are charming: coin: /^(flip|toss) (a )?coin/ → direct "Heads." dice: /^(roll )?(a )?(d6|dice|die)/ → 1-6. Small delight, cheap. Add. "joke"? skip (would need content; maybe 2 dry machine jokes? skip — keep focused). Also "who made you" → "I was assembled in a single HTML file — no cloud, no training data, no updates. Everything I know fits in this page." cute + honest. Add to identity. OK. Now the **executor**: ```js async runCommand(text){ push user msg (stream UI) status thinking; await sleep(300+rnd200) const plan = interpret(text) if(plan.direct){ typeReply? show agent msg after small delay with typewriter? Agent prose typed char-by-char at ~? Typing whole sentences at 4ms/char for 200 chars = 0.8s — pleasant. I'll typewriter agent prose (fast, 8ms/char, skip on click?). Implement `streamText(el, text, 9ms)` with caret? Keep simple fade-in? Typewriter adds "alive" feel — do it (with reduced delay 6ms, cap total 1.2s: cps = max(6, min(14, 1400/len))). status idle; return } if(plan.steps.length===0){ reply fallback } create plan card UI with rows; status running const results=[] for (i,step) of steps: mark row running (pulse) await sleep(220+rnd260) — pacing (also feels deliberate) try: const app = step.app; if(app!=='system'){ WM.open(app) ; WM.focus(app); await sleep(140) } — ensures visible const r = await APPS[app].caps[step.fn](step.args||{}, ctx) results.push(r) row done; row.result = r.msg if(r.value!=null) ctx.last={value:r.value, label:step.label, expr:step.args?.expr} if(r.toast) toast(r.toast) agent log to FS /system/log.txt append `[14:02] otto ran notes.write "errands" (ok)` — keep FS log append (cheap string append + save debounce) catch(e){ row failed (msg e.message); results.push({ok:false,msg:e.message}); } status idle const reply = composeReply(text, plan, results, ctx) typewriter reply save log } ``` Compose reply: templates per intent type... Simpler generic composer: gather success msgs; craft sentence: - If single step: "Done — <msg>." (msg crafted by caps already in readable phrasing? I'll make caps return `msg` phrased like "wrote “errands” (3 items) to your notes") then compose: "Done — " + joinSentences. If failure: "I hit a snag: <err>. ..." If mixed: report both. Add slight voice variety: pick from 2-3 openers ["Done —", "All set —", "That's handled —"]. If nothing succeeded: "That didn't go through: <msgs>. <suggestion if known>". For query steps (clock/notes.list/search/timers.list/calc): reply should include the answer prominently: caps return `value`/`msg`; compose: e.g. clock → "It's 14:02:33 on Tue 16 Jun." (from value). notes.list → "You have 3 notes: errands, journal, ideas. The latest one starts “milk and coffee…”." I'll let each step type define `tell` format; compose: for steps with `answer:true`, reply = the answer text directly (crafted in cap). I'll implement caps returning `{say:"...", msg:"..."}` where `say` = user-facing full sentence for query steps; executor: if plan has any `say`, reply = join(says) + (actions? " " + actionSummary). Keep pragmatic. Let me define cap return contract: `{ok:true, msg /*for trace row*/, say? /*for reply*/, value?, toast?}`. **Caps implementations**: - notes.create({title, body}): slug title; ensure unique (append -2); FS.write('/notes/'+slug+'.txt', body); open app; select note; if body: type into textarea (await typeIntoTextarea(el, body, 14ms)) → then save. Return {msg:`wrote note “${title}”`, say:`I've written a note called “${title}”${body?` — it starts with “${firstWords(body,8)}”.`:''}`} - notes.append({title, body}): find note (ci); if !found → create with body; else select + append typed. msg `appended to “${title}”`. - notes.read({title?}): read all or one: value = text; say: if title: `“${title}” says: “${body}”` (truncate 140); else list summary: count + titles + last preview. - notes.clear(): delete all notes? cap for "clear my notes" → confirm-less but reply warns; implement delete all + toast. Pattern: /^(clear|erase|delete|remove)\s+(?:all\s+)?(?:my\s+)?notes/ → step notes.clearAll. Add. - calc.evaluate({expr}): open calc; set display expr (typed quick 24ms) ; await 350ms; press equals animation; value=Calc.eval(expr) (throws on err); set history; msg `= ${fmt(value)}`; say `${expr} = ${fmt(value)}.` Also display "ERR" if throws → throw Error('that expression doesn't parse'). - synth.play({track, dur}): if !track → pick. Synth.play(trackId); say: `Playing “${name}” — ${bpm} BPM${dur?`, for ${fmtDur(dur)}:''}.` msg similar. If synth window closed, open (auto). - synth.stop(): stop → say "Stopped the music." if not playing → say "Nothing was playing." - synth.volume({v}): set; say `Volume at ${v}%.` - timers.set({sec, label}): create timer; say `Timer set — ${fmtDur(sec)}${label?` for “${label}”`:''}. I'll ping you when it lands.` msg `set timer ${fmtDur}`. - timers.cancelAll: n>0? `cleared ${n} timers` else say "No timers were running." - timers.list: say `No timers running` / `1 timer: 4m 12s left on “stretch”.` - system.clock: value=fmtClock; say `It's ${time} — ${weekday}.` (compute date string). - system.wait({sec}): await sleep(sec*1000 capped 10s); msg `waited ${sec}s`. - terminal.run({cmd}): open; type command into input char-by-char (18ms) then run; capture output lines? Return msg `ran “${cmd}” in the terminal` + say maybe include output first line if short? say: `I typed “${cmd}” into the terminal — the output is on screen.` value=lines. - wm.open/close/minimize/minimizeAll: msg accordingly. - fs.write({path, content}): FS.write; open files app? open files to show? open files app and select the file. msg `saved ${path}`. - fs.list / fs.search({term}): search: iterate files (name+body) → matches; say: `${n} matches for “${term}”: /notes/errands.txt (“...milk and coffee...”), /readme.txt (...)`. If 0: say `Nothing in the filesystem matches “${term}”.` value. - system? tidy: wm.minimizeAll: msg `tidied ${n} windows`. Also caps may need to await typing — they're async, good. Terminal typing: expose Terminal.typeRun(cmd) — focuses input, streams text, then executes. Notes typing: Notes.typeBody(text) — ensures editor textarea; streams into it by chunks (2-3 chars per tick 12ms) updating FS? Save at end. Calc typing: Calc.typeExpr(expr): set current expr string progressively (30ms/ch? faster 18ms), then Calc.equals() → display result; also push history entry. **Typewriter for agent prose**: `streamText(el, text, base=8)` — returns promise; appends chars; autoscroll stream. Skip if document.hidden. **Trace row statuses**: `.trrow .st` glyph text: '·' → span.run '▸' with css blink? Use small spinner: rotate dash char? I'll do a CSS spinner: 8px square border amber rotating? Mono aesthetic: a blinking `▌`? Use animated dots "···" or rotating `/ - \ |`? Terminal-style spinner with frames ['|','/','—','\\'] via interval — charming & thematic! 80ms interval. On done replace with '✓' (amber), fail '✕' (red). **Compose reply variety**: keep it tight; avoid over-randomizing. I'll implement small helper `pick(arr)`. Also **error paths**: unknown app in open → direct: `I don't have a “X” app. I run: terminal, notes, calculator, synth, timers, files.` Track unknown → similar with track list. Unknown note read → `I can't find a note called “X” — your notes: errands, ideas.` (list). Good agentic honesty. **Greeting variants** based on hour: morning/afternoon/evening + intro line. **Identity reply**: "I'm OTTO — the resident agent of this machine. I parse what you type, plan a few steps, and drive the apps myself: opening windows, typing notes, running calculations, playing sound, setting timers. I live entirely on this device: no servers, no accounts, no telemetry — the network stack is disabled on purpose. Give me a task in plain words; I'll show my work as I do it." **Help reply**: prose + list of examples (mono lines): ``` · open the terminal / close the synth / tidy the desktop · write a note called errands: milk, coffee, batteries · calculate 128 × 46 then save the result · set a timer for 10 minutes to stretch · play night drive for 30 seconds then stop · find “coffee” in my files · what's in my notes · sysinfo ``` Good. Now **Terminal implementation** details: ```js Terminal = { el refs: out, input history:[], hi=0 print(html or text lines, cls) run(cmd): echo prompt+cmd; dispatch; print output; scroll dispatch: switch on first token; helpers for paths caps: run({cmd}) typeRun(cmd): focus, stream chars into input, then run } ``` Commands: - help: formatted table (pad with spaces in <pre> style — output uses white-space:pre-wrap; I'll print with padded columns via spaces). - ls [path]: list entries: dirs amber with '/', files dim. - cd <path>, pwd. - cat <file>: print body (escape HTML!). - echo <text> [> file] [>> file]: parse redirect. - touch, rm, mkdir. - open <app> → WM.open; close <app>. - apps: list. - agent <rest> → Agent.run(rest) (and open agent window). - calc <expr> → Calc.eval → print. - play [track], stop, volume <n>? add volume. - timer <dur> [label...]: timers.set. - timers: list. - date, uptime, whoami → 'guest — but everything here is yours; I'm just the hands.', sysinfo. - history. - clear. - reset → wipes localStorage + reload. - open? done. `notes` shortcut? 'notes' lists note files? Make `ls /notes`. - Unknown: `otto: command not found: X — try 'help'`. Path resolution: simple: paths absolute or relative to cwd; FS nodes {dirs:{}, files:{}} representation: ```js FS = { root: { type:'dir', name:'', children: { 'readme.txt':{type:'file',body:'...'}, notes:{type:'dir',children:{}} } } resolve(path, cwd): split, handle '.', '..', '' write(path, body): create dirs as needed (limit depth), file read, list, rm, mkdir, mv? skip mv. search(term): walk, match in name or body (ci), return [{path, snippet}] } ``` Persist: JSON.stringify root. Seed FS: - /readme.txt: "OTTO/OS — a desktop that runs entirely on your machine..." describe agent + privacy. - /system/manifest.txt: list of apps + capabilities. - /system/log.txt: agent action log (append). - /notes/: (empty at first? seed one? seed none; first-run agent suggests creating). Seed zero notes but files app shows empty folder with hint. OK. - /music/setlist.txt: three tracks described. **Notes app UI** structure: ``` [header? within window body] sidebar (170px): [+ NEW] button; list items: title (truncate), time dim; active state amber left bar. editor: title input (borderless, mono? Georgia for title? body in serif Georgia — human writing; UI mono. Title in mono bold? I'll do title in mono 13 bold uppercase? Titles like "Errands" — mono 14 semibold, normal case. body: serif 15px line1.7. footer: chars · words · saved 14:02:11. delete button in footer (small × DELETE). ``` On body input → debounce 500ms save + update list time. On title input → rename (update file path — handle: delete old file, write new, keep order). Keep it robust-ish. Agent caps interact via state.activeNoteId. Store notes as FS files /notes/*.txt; title = filename minus .txt (slug). Display title = stored meta? Filename as title (slugified) — nicer to keep readable titles: store body with first line = title? Convention: file body's first line is the title. So notes.create(title, body): body = title + '\n' + body? Then display: title=first line, body=rest. Slugged filename. Read note: first line title. Works with terminal cat too. I'll adopt: note file = `title\n\nbody`. Editing title line renames file? Simplify: title input edits first line + renames file via FS.move (implement move = write new + rm old). Manageable. **Files app UI**: left tree (indent, folders expandable ▸/▾, files), right preview: header path, body pre (mono 12, wrap), meta (size, modified). Click note files show. Search box? Agent covers search; add small search input top-right filtering tree — cheap & useful. I'll add. **Synth engine** — write compact: ```js Synth = { ctx (lazy), master gain, delay (feedback .28, time .28), analyser playing track, step, nextTime, timer (setInterval 25ms scheduler lookahead .12) tracks = [...] play(id): ensureCtx (resume), stop current, schedule scheduleLoop: while nextTime < ctx.currentTime + 0.12: scheduleStep(track, step, nextTime); nextTime += 60/bpm/4; step=(step+1)%16 note(midi, t, dur, wave, gain, dest): osc + gain env (attack .005, decay exp), connect dest (per-track chain: dry→master + send→delay) hat(t): noise buffer? create small noise buffer once; bandpass hi; short env bass: triangle/square lower octave UI: update on step via requestAnimationFrame checking current audible step (schedule UI step times array; rAF picks latest ≤ now) → highlight LED column in track grid? Show 16 LEDs row + current pattern display: draw pattern as small dots grid (16 × 3 rows: lead/bass/hat) — visual = "sheet". Implement rows of 16 cells each with activity marks (amber for lead, dim for bass, tiny for hat) + playhead column highlight. That's a lovely detail, cheap to render (3 rows × 16 divs, toggle classes). } ``` Tracks definition (midi numbers, null = rest). Let me compose quickly: NIGHT DRIVE (A minor, 100 BPM, saw lead + square bass): lead (16): [69,null,72,null, 76,null,72,null, 69,null,72,null, 74,null,72,null] (A4 C5 E5 ... ) bass: [33,null,33,null, 40? ...] A1... Whatever sounds moody. hat: [null,null,1,null]*4 pattern with slight variation: steps 2,6,10,14 + ghost at 15. Good enough. SUNROOM (Dmaj-ish warm, 84 BPM, triangle): lead: [62,null,66,null, 69,null,71,null, 69,null,66,null, 64,null,62,null]? sparse: add nulls: [62,null,null,66, null,null,69,null, 71,null,null,69, null,null,66,null]. bass: [38? Volumes: lead .18, bass .22, hat .06. Master .8 * user vol. Delay send from lead only .25. Freq: midi→freq 440*2^((m-69)/12). Analyser visualizer: canvas 100%×64px bottom of synth window: waveform (getByteTimeDomainData) amber line 2px; idle: flat line + faint grid. Plus BPM text. Transport buttons: PLAY (triangle svg), STOP (square svg). Track rows: click selects (if playing → switch live). Volume slider: input range styled mono (accent-color amber; custom track styling minimal). Timer ring: SVG circle r=16, stroke-dasharray; update via interval 250ms per timer; remaining text; label; cancel ×. Beep: 3 short beeps (880Hz square, gain env) at end + toast `Timer done — “stretch”.` + agent log? Fine. **Toasts**: stack top-right below menubar; mono 12px; border-left amber 2px; bg surface; slide+fade; auto-remove 4s; click dismiss. **Menubar** contents: left: `✳ OTTO/OS` (spark icon svg + name) + sep + tiny `ON-DEVICE AGENT RUNTIME` (hide on small). right: NET badge: `NET:SEALED` (click → popover explaining + "attempts intercepted: 0"); AGENT state: dot + `IDLE/THINKING/RUNNING` (click opens agent); clock `14:02:33`; date `TUE 16 JUN`; sound toggle icon. NET tripwire: patch window.fetch, XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open/send? patching XHR.open suffices to detect; WebSocket constructor; navigator.sendBeacon; EventSource. Log attempts count + toast error. Since we make zero such calls, stays 0. Note: fetch patch — our code never calls fetch. Careful: don't break anything. Wrap in try. Also display popover: "This window has made 0 network requests since boot. The agent runtime, apps and storage are all local. Any outgoing connection attempt would be flagged here and counted." Storage note: localStorage — it's on-device, fine, mention "state is saved to this browser's local storage only". **Boot overlay**: fullscreen bg-black; mono lines appear staggered: ``` OTTO KERNEL 1.0 — cold boot mounting / ................ ok loading agent runtime ..... ok (parser: 27 intents) mounting apps ............. ok (7 windows) audio subsystem ........... standby network stack ............. DISABLED BY POLICY storage ................... local only (0 bytes leave this device) > handing control to you_ ``` Then fade out (400ms) after ~1.6s total. Lines appear with 120-200ms stagger, "ok" in amber. Clicking skips. Then Agent window opens + welcome message typed. Also maybe desktop items fade in. **Welcome message** in agent stream (typed): "Good <time-of-day>. I'm OTTO — I run the apps on this machine for you. Everything happens locally: your words stay in this window, and the network stack is sealed. Ask for something — a note, a calculation, a timer, some sound — or press one of these:" then 3 clickable examples (mono, underline on hover → fills composer + focuses). Examples as elements after typed text (append after typing completes). First-run only? Every boot: show shorter: "Back online. What are we doing?" if FS existed (localStorage had data → returning user) — nice touch: detect `localStorage['otto.fs']` existed at boot → short greeting + tip. else full intro. **Agent window structure**: ``` head: OTTO — AGENT RUNTIME | status? small "v1.0 · parser:local" stream (flex-1 scroll) composer: [input] [RUN ▸] ``` Message DOM: - .msg.you: right? Console style: I'll do: user message: mono, prefixed `»` amber, full width left-aligned with slight indent? Chat-app convention (bubble right) feels generic; console-left with `you ›` label row + text. I'll do: ``` <div class="m you"><span class="tag">YOU</span><p>open notes and write…</p></div> <div class="m otto"><span class="tag">OTTO</span><p class="prose">serif italic text…</p></div> <div class="plan"><header>TASK · 3 STEPS</header> rows…</div> ``` Plan card: bordered box (1px border, bg surface2), header mono tiny dim "PLAN — 3 STEPS", rows: index 01, verb label mono, status right. Rows for query steps too. After done, header shows "TASK — 3/3 OK" amber if all ok else "2/3 — 1 FAILED" red. Prose in Georgia italic 15px, color ink; em-dashes; links/examples underline amber. Composer: input mono 13, placeholder `tell otto what to do…`, RUN button mono bordered; while running, button label "···" disabled? Allow queue: if running → push to queue, show tiny queued indicator. I'll implement queue array processed sequentially. Placeholder hint on hover? fine. Also "clear log" small button in agent head (resets stream). Good for long sessions. **z-index / focus styles**: window focus: border-color brightens + titlebar text amber + dock icon lit. Use a class. **Dragging**: pointerdown on titlebar (not buttons) → capture; move → set left/top clamped to desktop bounds (menubar 34px). Store in dataset. Resize: 14px corner handle (bottom-right) similar. **Window open positions**: cascade from center-ish: base (innerWidth/2 - w/2 + offset*(n%5)*28 ...). Agent window opens centered-left? Agent default: x=24,y=54? Let it cascade too. Default sizes per app. Also windows should not overlap dock (dock height ~64 + margin): clamp max top accordingly. Fine—clamp within desktop area minus dock. **Desktop wallpaper**: dot grid + maybe a large faint watermark: bottom-left stacked mono text: "OTTO/OS 1.0", "agent runtime · 0 network · 0 telemetry", coordinates/time? Keep subtle (faint 30% opacity). Also maybe faint oversized "OTTO" outline text bottom-right? Could be classy: 200px mono ultra-light at 4% ink. Hmm — risk of decoration; a restrained mark is OK. I'll add the bottom-left info block only, plus centered faint "✳" mark? Skip mark. Info block + dot grid + slight vignette? Vignette = radial gradient — avoid gradients; plain is fine. **Accessibility & keyboard**: Esc closes focused window? Enter in composer runs. Terminal Enter runs; ↑/↓ history. Calc keyboard: digits/ops/Enter/Backspace when calc focused (add keydown listener on window with focus check? attach to calc window element with tabindex). Simple: calc body listens keydown when window is focused (WM tracks focused app) → route keys. I'll implement: document keydown → if WM.focused==='calc' && no input focused → handle. Similarly terminal input has its own listener (it's an input). Notes textarea natural. Synth keys? skip. **Reduced motion**: respect prefers-reduced-motion: disable window open scale anim + typewriter? Typewriter still ok but I could shorten. Add media query to zero transitions. Typewriter keep (it's core). fine. **Performance**: intervals: menubar clock 250ms; synth scheduler 25ms while playing; visualizer rAF while synth open; timer rings 250ms. Fine. **Now sizes/limits**: The code will be long (~2000+ lines). That's fine — I have generous budget. Let me be organized and write clean compact code with section comments. I must ensure correctness — mentally test key flows. Potential pitfalls: 1. AudioContext creation must follow user gesture — agent synth.play triggered by user pressing RUN → same gesture chain? Not strictly (async after), but Chrome allows audio after any prior user gesture on page (click counts as user activation; the RUN click provides it). Boot: don't auto-play audio. Timer beeps after user set timer via click — ok. If agent command run via Enter key — keydown is user activation too. OK. 2. localStorage may throw (disabled) — wrap try/catch everywhere. 3. Escape HTML in terminal/cat/notes preview — escape util. 4. Typing animations race: if user closes window mid-type — typeInto checks el.isConnected. 5. Timer ring update uses performance.now delta. 6. Calc parser: implement carefully. Grammar: ``` expr: term (('+'|'-') term)* term: unary (('*'|'/'|'%') unary)* unary: ('-'|'+')? power power: atom ('^' unary)? // right assoc atom: number | '(' expr ')' number: digits ('.' digits)? ``` Implement tokenize: strip spaces; parse with pos index. Errors throw {message:'parse error'}. 7. Word-op replacement for agent: "times" etc. 8. Note slug: lowercase? Keep original case in title line; filename slug lowercase with dashes. 9. WM.open must not duplicate; if minimized → restore. 10. Agent queue: if user submits while running: push queue; after current completes, shift & run (with small delay). Show queued message in stream? Show as user msg immediately; fine. 11. composeReply when steps include says: join says + actions summary. Let me define executor's composer: ``` succeeded steps: collect r.msg (trace) and r.say (reply sentence or null) reply = [] if any say: push each say actions = steps.filter(!r.say && ok) → if actions: push pick(['Done — ','All set — ','Handled — ']) + join actions msgs with ', ' + '.' if all fail: push "That didn't work: " + first fail msg + fallback advice? partial: push "One part failed: ..." ``` Keep it decent. 12. Step pacing sleep(240+rnd 300) — for multi-step plans total ~1-2s + typing animations. Acceptable. For very long plans (5 steps) ~3s — fine, trace visible. 13. Note title from pattern: body like "about today's plan" — strip leading "about|on|for|that|re:" words. Title derive: if body short (≤6 words) → title = body capitalized? Convention: title = first sentence/6 words + rest body? I'll do: if no explicit title: title = firstWords(body, 5) or "Note HH:MM" if body empty. 14. `what's in my notes` parse conflicts with readNote pattern ("what's in X")? My readNote pattern requires read/open/show/view — fine. notes.list pattern listed. 15. calc pattern "what's 12*8" → regex `^what(?:'s| is)\s+(.+)$` then validate math-only after word-op replacement: strip words like "the answer to"? keep simple. Validate: /^[0-9+\-*/^%().\s×÷x]+$/ → else not calc → fallback. 16. Terminal `agent` command: Agent.run(text) — also open agent window first. 17. Agent window is itself controllable ("close the agent") — allow closing (it's a window). Reopen via dock/menubar. 18. While agent running and user closes agent window: typing/plan updates reference el — guard isConnected (skip UI updates). Fine. 19. Dock icons: 7 apps incl. Agent. Order: AGENT, TERMINAL, NOTES, CALC, FILES, SYNTH, TIMERS. Icon svgs. Let me design icon set (inline symbols, viewBox 0 0 24 24, stroke currentColor, fill none, sw 1.7): - spark (agent): asterisk: lines at 0/45/90/135 through center + center dot? paths: M12 3v18 M3 12h18 M5.6 5.6l12.8 12.8 M18.4 5.6L5.6 18.4 → 8-point asterisk. Fonts: `--mono: "SF Mono", ui-monospace, "Cascadia Mono", "JetBrains Mono", Menlo, Consolas, monospace;` serif: `Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif` — Georgia is characterful for prose/notes. Use Georgia italic for OTTO voice. OK — one more consideration: the request says "create agentic AI app that can control other apps" — I'm delivering a self-contained simulated OS where the agent controls built-in apps. I should explain honestly in the response: in a browser sandbox you can't control native OS apps without native bridges/OS permissions (which would require platform APIs); so I built a full on-device desktop with real apps + a local agent that operates them — the architecture (capability bus) is exactly what you'd expose to real system apps on a native build (e.g., via OS accessibility/automation APIs). Also note zero network/telemetry by design with a live tripwire. That framing respects the user's constraints and is technically honest. Now — write the code. I'll aim for a complete, coherent, polished single file. Let me carefully draft it section by section, watching for bugs. Detailed code plan (I'll write final code directly in the answer, but let me pre-draft tricky parts here): --- Utilities: ```js const $=(s,r=document)=>r.querySelector(s), $$=(s,r=document)=>[...r.querySelectorAll(s)]; const sleep=ms=>new Promise(r=>setTimeout(r,ms)); const rnd=(a,b)=>a+Math.random()*(b-a); const pick=a=>a[Math.floor(Math.random()*a.length)]; const esc=s=>String(s).replace(/[&<>"']/g,c=>({'&':'&','<':'<','>':'>','"':'"',"'":'''}[c])); const pad=n=>String(n).padStart(2,'0'); const fmtClock=d=>pad(d.getHours())+':'+pad(d.getMinutes())+':'+pad(d.getSeconds()); const DAYS=['SUN',...]; MONTHS=['JAN',...]; const fmtDate=d=>DAYS[d.getDay()]+' '+pad(d.getDate())+' '+MONTHS[d.getMonth()]; const fmtDur=s=>{s=Math.round(s);const m=Math.floor(s/60),r=s%60;return m? (m+'m'+(r?' '+pad(r)+'s':'')) : (r+'s')} // careful 90 → '1m 30s' const fmtNum=n=>{ if(!isFinite(n))return '∞'; if(Math.abs(n)>=1e12||(Math.abs(n)<1e-6&&n!==0))return n.toExponential(4); const s=(Math.round(n*1e8)/1e8).toString(); return s.replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g,',') } // thousands separators — careful with decimals: regex on string "1234567.89" → "1,234,567.89" ok since \B with lookahead only before digits groups; but it would also group after decimal point? "1234.5678": positions: after "1234" (before '.') → \B? The lookahead requires 3 digits followed by non-digit? My lookahead `(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))` matches at positions where ≥3 digits follow and next isn't digit... For "1234.5678": at pos1 "234" then next is '.' → not digit → match → inserts comma → "1,234.5678" then pos2: "234." no. Then within "5678"? pos after '.': "567" followed by "8" digit → (d{3})+ tries "5678" (4 digits) then (?!\d) fails; backtrack "567" then next is '8' digit → fails → no match. Add fuzzy: if text contains 'weather' → special witty reply: "I don't check the weather — that would need the internet, and I don't phone home." Nice character. Add a few easter intents: 'joke' → dry machine joke; 'who made you' → "I was assembled from JavaScript in a single file — no server behind me."; 'sing'/'song' → play synth? "I don't sing, but the synth does —" play random track. These add life cheaply. parse(text): returns array of intents {type, args...}. plan maps to steps. Let me now write the parse function carefully: ```js parse(raw){ let text=raw.replace(/\s+/g,' ').trim(); // strip politeness prefixes text=text.replace(/^(please|hey|ok|okay|otto|could you|can you|would you|i want you to|i need you to|for me)?\s*/i,'') — careful 'otto' strip only at start. Wait: splitting "and" breaks "calculate 2 and 2"? rare. Accept. Also comma splitting: split on ',' followed by space+verb? simpler: also split on ', ' when remainder starts with verb-ish keyword (open|close|write|make|create|add|calc|play|stop|set|cancel|list|find|search|read|show|run|save|note|timer|play|pause). Implement split loop producing clauses. map clause→intent via matchClause(clause) (each returns intent or null; collect non-null; if a clause yields null → mark unknown (keep text) → fallback overall). } ``` Hmm fallback: if some clause unknown → I'll still execute known ones and mention unknown? Better UX: if ≥1 known: execute those + note "I didn't understand “X” — skipped it." else fallback reply. matchClause(cl): lowercase copy for matching `L=cl.toLowerCase()`; returns intent obj or null. Patterns (using L and original cl for captures with /i): Order: 1. identity/help/greeting/thanks — but only if clause is whole short phrase. 2. terminal run: `^(?:run|exec|type)\s+(?:"([^"]+)"|'([^']+)'|(.*?))\s+(?:in|into|on)\s+(?:the\s+)?terminal$` OR `^(?:open\s+)?terminal\s+(?:and\s+)?(?:run|type)\s+(.+)$` → {type:'term.run', cmd} Also "open terminal and run ls": clause split on 'and' → "open terminal", "run ls" — 'run ls' alone: pattern 2b: `^run\s+(.*)$` → ambiguous with general fallback... "run ls" → terminal run. But "run the synth"? conflicts with play... I'll map ^run to terminal unless matches play/syn. `^run\s+(.*)$` → {term.run, cmd:$1}. And "type X in terminal". Else try resolve to existing note title. 9. note read/list: `^(?:what(?:'s| is)\s+(?:in|written in)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?notes?|read\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?notes?|show\s+(?:me\s+)?(?:my\s+)?notes?|list\s+(?:my\s+)?notes?|open\s+my\s+notes?)\s*\??$` → note.read (value → agent summarizes). Also `^what(?:'s| is) my (?:latest|last|most recent) note\??$`. 10. calc: `^(?:calc(?:ulate)?|compute|evaluate|what(?:'s| is)|whats|how much is|solve)\s+(.+)$` then validate expr: strip trailing '?', extract math substring: from rest, take longest token-run of [\d+\-*/^().%\s×÷−] — if none → not calc (fall to unknown or e.g. "what's in my notes" handled earlier; "what time is it" handled by clock pattern BEFORE calc!). Order clock before calc. Also "what can you do" earlier. Then mathify words: replace \bplus\b→+, \bminus\b→−? convert minus→-, \btimes\b→*, \bmultiplied by\b→*, \bdivided by\b→/, \bover\b→/, \bto the power of\b→^, \bsquared\b→^2, \bcubed\b→^3, \bpercent of\b? skip. ×÷− normalize to */-. expr = extracted run; validate /[\d]/ present & /^[0-9+\-*/^().%\s]*$/ after replacements → intent {type:'calc', expr} Edge: "what's 20% of 80"? skip percent-of. % as modulo fine. 11. clock: `^(?:what(?:'s| is)?\s*the\s*)?time\??$|^(?:what(?:'s| is)?\s*the\s*)?(?:date|day)(?:\s+is\s+it)?\??$|^what\s+(?:time|day|date)(?:\s+is\s+it)?\??$` → {type:'clock'}. 12. play: `^(?:play|start)\s+(.*)$` → rest; parse track: search rest for track keys: night|drive→night; sun|room|warm|ambient|calm|chill→sunroom? "chill" maps sunroom; machine|hum|techno|pulse→machine; 'some music'|'music'|'a song'|'a track'|'something' (no key) → default random; extract duration: /for\s+(\d+)\s*(ms|s|secs?|seconds?|m|mins?|minutes?)?/ → secs. rest may also be "night drive then open terminal" — clause split already separated. Also "play night drive for 30 seconds then stop" — the "then stop" clause → stop intent. good. → {type:'synth.play', track, forSecs} 13. stop music: `^(?:stop|pause|hush|silence|kill)(?:\s+the)?\s*(?:music|song|track|synth|sound|beat|tune|audio|it)?\s*$` → {type:'synth.stop'} — careful "stop" alone also stops timers? "stop" alone → stop synth if playing else cancel timers? Make 'stop' bare: if synth playing → stop synth; else if timers → cancel all; else "nothing is playing or counting down." I'll implement in exec with state check. Also "stop the timer" → cancel timers: pattern `^stop\s+(?:the\s+)?timers?$` → timers.cancelAll. 14. volume: `^(?:set\s+)?volume\s*(?:to)?\s*(\d{1,3})\s*%?$` or `^(?:turn\s+)?(?:the\s+)?volume\s+(up|down)$` or `^(?:louder|quieter|softer)$` → {type:'synth.volume', v or delta}. 15. timer: patterns: `^(?:set|start|create|make|begin|new)\s+(?:a\s+|an\s+)?(?:timer|alarm|countdown)\s*(?:for|of|at)?\s*(\d+)\s*(ms|s|secs?|sec|seconds?|m|mins?|min|minutes?|h|hours?)?\s*(?:for\s+(.+)|to\s+(.+))?$` `^timer\s+(?:for\s+)?(\d+)\s*(...)?...$` `^remind\s+me\s+(?:in\s+)?(\d+)\s*(units?)?(?:\s+to\s+|\s+for\s+)?(.*)$` `^in\s+(\d+)\s*(units?)\s*(?:\s*,?\s*)?(.+)$` → "in 10 minutes start..."? ambiguous with play later; clause split handles. `^(\d+)\s*(minutes?|mins?|seconds?|secs?|s|m|h)\s*(?:timer|countdown|alarm)?$` → "10 minutes" alone → timer! nice. units default seconds? "set a timer 10" → seconds? ambiguous (could be minutes); default: if n>=... choose seconds if n<...? I'll default to minutes when unit omitted AND phrase says 'timer for 10'? Hmm real assistants ask. Keep: unit omitted → seconds if small (<100) else minutes? Arbitrary. I'll default: bare number → minutes if number≤ 3? no... Decide: bare → seconds, and OTTO echoes "10 seconds" so user sees assumption and can correct. Actually "set a timer for 10" usually means minutes... I'll treat bare as minutes when ≥1 and phrase 'timer' (common) — hmm. Simplest robust: bare number → minutes if number < 100 and word 'timer' present? Both plausible. I'll go: bare → minutes (assistant convention), and OTTO reply states the unit explicitly. Hmm "set a timer for 30" → 30 minutes, long. 50/50. Let me default bare to seconds for short durations feel in a demo (10s fun), and explicitly say unit. Choose: bare → seconds. Note in identity? no. Fine — reply always includes "10 seconds", user can re-ask "10 minutes". duration parse: s=1, m=60, h=3600; ms→0.05? allow 'ms' fun? skip ms. label cleanup: strip trailing please, "to " prefix verb? label as given. cap 60 chars. → {type:'timer.set', sec, label} 16. cancel timers: `^(?:cancel|clear|stop|kill|abort)\s+(?:all\s+|the\s+|my\s+)?timers?(?:\s+down)?$` → timers.cancelAll. 17. timers list: `^(?:what|which)\s+timers?\s+(?:are\s+running|do\s+i\s+have|is\s+running)$|^list\s+timers$` → timers.list. 18. search: `^(?:find|search(?:\s+for)?|look\s+for|grep)\s+["“']?(.+?)["”']?\s*$` → {type:'search', term} (agent: FS.search + note contents + report). Exclude matching 'search for' pattern with quotes. 19. files list: `^(?:list|show)\s+(?:my\s+|the\s+)?files$|^ls$` → fs.list. 20. read file: `^(?:read|show|cat|open)\s+(?:the\s+file\s+)?([\w./\-]+\.txt)$` → fs.read. 21. write file: `^(?:write|create|make)\s+(?:a\s+)?file\s+(?:called\s+)?([\w.\-]+)\s+(?:with|containing|saying)\s+(.+)$` → fs.write. (nice) 22. wm.minimize/open handled. 23. easter: weather (→ witty offline reply, type:'easter', key:'weather'), joke, "who are you|what are you" identity, "how do you work|are you recording|do you collect|privacy" → privacy reply!, "who made you|who built you" → maker reply, "sing|song|music" (when not matching play) → play random with quip, "thank(s| you)" → ack, "hello|hi|hey|yo|good morning..." → greet. 24. unknown → null. Privacy reply is important given the brief: "Nothing about you leaves this tab. I keep no logs beyond this session's memory, I make no network calls, and you can watch me prove it — the menubar counter has said 0 bytes since boot." Exec mapping (plan): convert intent → steps {app, fn, args, label, pause}: - open app → {app:'wm', fn:'open', args:{id}, label:`open ${title}`} - close → wm.close; minimize → wm.min; tidy → wm.tidy (label 'clear the desktop') - note.create → {app:'notes', fn:'create', args:{body}, label:`write a note${body? ' — “'+short(body)+'”':''}`} - note.result → {app:'notes', fn:'create', args:{body:()=> '= '+fmt(lastResult)}...} — needs ctx at exec time: make args lazy? I'll allow args to be functions? Simpler: exec reads ctx: cap create receives (args, ctx) and if args.fromResult → body = `${args.expr? args.expr+' = ':''}${fmtNum(ctx.lastResult)}`. I'll pass special flag. - note.append → notes.append - note.read → notes.read (value text) — no window open? open notes for visual: yes open+select latest. - calc → {app:'calc', fn:'evaluate', args:{expr}, label:`calculate ${expr}`} - clock → {app:'system', fn:'clock', label:'read the clock'} — no window; returns {msg:'', value:{time, date}} then summary composes "It's 14:02:33 — Tuesday, June 10." Hmm trace row with no app action: fine, quick. - synth.play → {app:'synth', fn:'play', args:{track, forSecs}} - synth.stop → fn stop - synth.volume → fn volume - timer.set → {app:'timers', fn:'set', args:{sec, label}} - timers.cancelAll/list - term.run → {app:'terminal', fn:'run', args:{cmd}} - search → {app:'system', fn:'search', args:{term}} (uses FS + notes, no window? open files? I'll search quietly + reply; label 'search files for “term”') - fs.list/read/write → app:'files'/'system' - easter → {app:'system', fn:'say', args:{key}} caps return {msg, value?}; msg used in trace + summary. summary(steps, ctx): craft reply per intent types collected: - For note.create: "Done — I opened Notes and wrote “<title>”: “<snippet>”." - For calc: "That comes to **5,888**. The calculator's showing it now." - For play: "“NIGHT DRIVE” is playing — pure Web Audio oscillators, no files. I'll stop it in 30 seconds." etc. - compose: collect sentences from steps' caps msgs (caps already craft good msg strings) and join with ' ' — simplest: each cap returns a human sentence; summary joins sentences + closing flavor if multiple: prefix "Done." when >1. Also handle failure: partial. - clock: special sentence. - search: special. So caps craft messages; summary = (say.length>1? 'Done — ':'') + say.join(' '). Plus occasional flavor tails from a small pool for delight ("Anything else while I'm warm?" hmm keep classy: rare). I'll add small tail pool used ~25%: "Anything else?", "Your move.", "On-device the whole time.", "No network involved." Pick deterministic-random. Typing quotes: use proper “ ” in prose. Trace card: also show parse step? Add first row "parse → N steps" meta in card header: "TASK 004 · 3 STEPS · 1.24s" footer on completion. Menubar status: `IDLE` gray dot; `PARSING…`, `EXECUTING (2/3)` amber pulsing dot. Click → open agent. Now **welcome/boot**: Boot overlay: fullscreen bg with centered mono log lines appearing (each 90-160ms): ``` OTTO/OS 1.0 — local agent runtime ────────────────────────────── mounting virtual filesystem ......... ok starting window manager ............. ok spinning up application runtime ..... ok (7 apps) calibrating agent core .............. ok network interfaces .................. none (by design) telemetry ........................... none (by design) handing over to you ▸ ``` then fade overlay (600ms) + open Agent window with greeting. Boot lines with amber 'ok'. Also start clock. Add tiny delay total ~2.2s, click to skip. Nice touch: 'network interfaces .... none (by design)'. **Menubar**: left: mark: "OTTO/OS" mono bold + dim "v1.0". right side: `NET 0 B` chip (click → popover: "External requests since boot: 0. OTTO has no network code paths; the tripwire hooks fetch/XHR/WebSocket/sendBeacon and will flag anything.") — implement tripwire: ```js const Net={bytes:0, hooked:false, hook(){ ['fetch'].forEach... wrap window.fetch = async (...a)=>{ Net.trip('fetch'); return Promise.reject(new Error('OTTO is offline — network calls are disabled')) }? ``` Careful: rejecting fetch is fine since we never call it. But wrapping fetch that throws might break extensions? fine. Also XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open → trip + throw? If throw, any script attempting XHR fails — that's the point. WebSocket constructor → trip + throw. navigator.sendBeacon → trip + return false. Show counter of attempts (should stay 0). If an attempt happens (e.g. user pastes code? no eval console... it won't) — toast warn. Display: chip "NET 0 / TRIPPED 0"? Keep "NETWORK — SEALED" with tooltip. Implement count and chip shows `NET:0` amber-ok. Click popover with explanation. Also "airplane" icon (svg) in chip. Clock: `14:22:36 · TUE 10 JUN`. Agent status chip: dot + text, click opens agent window. **Dock**: bottom center: buttons for 7 apps: [agent] [terminal] [notes] [calc] [synth] [files] [timers]. Each: icon + label under? Icons with tooltip labels on hover (small mono tooltip above). Running indicator: 3px dot under icon. Click: open/focus (or minimize if focused? classic: click focused → minimize. implement toggle). **Window manager details**: ```js WM={z:10, wins:{}, open(id, {focus:true}): if exists→focus/restore; else create from APPS[id].win {title, icon, w, h, min} create: div.win absolute; titlebar (icon+title+spacer+btns); body → app.mount(bodyEl, api); store; position: cascade: base center-ish: x = 90 + (n%5)*36, y = 64 + (n%5)*28; ensure within desktop bounds; open anim (class .in); focus(); focus(id): zTop++; class .focused on top, others unfocused; app.onFocus? min(id): animate (transform scale .92 + opacity) then display none; dock dot stays. restore(id) close(id): app.destroy?.(); remove; dock dot remove. tidy(): minimize all except? minimize all. drag: pointerdown on titlebar (not buttons) → setPointerCapture, move → clamp within desktop (top>= menubar+? clamp 0..), resize: pointerdown on .rz handle (bottom-right 14px) → clamp min sizes. } ``` Desktop bounds: desktop area = window minus menubar minus dock space; clamp x within -width/2? keep simple clamp 8..vw-w-8, y 34..vh-dock-24? allow partial overflow: clamp top ≥34, left ≥ -w+80? Keep simple: clamp left to [8, vw-w-8], top to [34, vh-h-70] — windows may be taller than viewport; allow. Fine. Also mobile? This is desktop-oriented; add min viewport handling: if width < 760 → windows become near-fullscreen stacked? That's real work. I'll add basic: dock wraps, windows sized 94vw. Drag still works. Acceptable note. I'll ensure it doesn't explode on small screens (windows fit). Add `fit()` on open: if vw<760 → w=min(w, vw-16). **App window content styling** per app: - Terminal: bg #0B0A08 (slightly darker), output pre-wrap mono 12.5px, colors: prompt amber, dir dim, err red. Plus faint vignette? skip vignette (gradient). Flat dots fine. Also a large dim wordmark on desktop? Maybe desktop text bottom-left: mono 11px dim: "OTTO/OS 1.0 — everything on this screen runs locally · no network · no telemetry". Good. Fonts: `--mono: "SF Mono", "Cascadia Code", "JetBrains Mono", Menlo, Consolas, "Liberation Mono", monospace; --serif: Georgia, "Iowan Old Style", "Times New Roman", serif` — Georgia italic for agent voice. Define 14 symbols. Use `<svg class="i"><use href="#i-notes"/></svg>`. Sizes: titlebar 13px, dock 20px. Now write the CSS thoroughly (~450 lines) and JS (~1100+ lines). Single file. Let me draft the code mentally with care around tricky parts: **Drag implementation**: ```js function makeDrag(win, bar, api){ bar.addEventListener('pointerdown', e=>{ if(e.target.closest('button'))return; const r=win.getBoundingClientRect(); const ox=e.clientX-r.left, oy=e.clientY-r.top; const move=ev=>{ let x=ev.clientX-ox, y=ev.clientY-oy; x=clamp(x, 8-win.offsetWidth+120, innerWidth-8); wait allow partially offscreen left: clamp(x, -(win.offsetWidth-100), innerWidth-100); y=clamp(y, 34, innerHeight-40); win.style.left=x+'px'; win.style.top=y+'px'; }; ...pointermove/up on window with capture via bar.setPointerCapture(e.pointerId). })} ``` Use pointer capture on the bar element; listeners: bar.onpointermove while dragging flag. **Resize**: handle div absolute bottom-right; similar with min w/h. **Z-order/focus**: track topZ; on pointerdown on window → focus. **Terminal implementation**: ```js const Terminal={hist:[],hi:0, cwd:'/', mount(el){ el.innerHTML=`<div class="t-out"></div><form class="t-line"><span class="t-ps"></span><input class="t-in" spellcheck="false" autocomplete="off"></form>`; this.out=…; this.print(motd): OTTO/OS terminal — type `help` for commands. everything here runs locally. form submit → this.exec(input) focus on click on body. } prompt(){ `guest@otto:${this.cwd}$` } exec(line){ echo line; hist push; route commands } caps: run({cmd}) → open window (WM.open) then: focus terminal, simulate: append line `» otto: <cmd>`? Better: show as if typed: print prompt+cmd then exec, with small delay typing? Full typing animation: typeInto input? Could animate chars into input then submit — fun! implement capsRun: WM.open, focus input, typeInto(input, cmd, 30cps) then dispatch submit. } ``` Terminal commands mapping — write a table: ``` help → formatted list clear → out.innerHTML='' ls [p] → list entries cd p → resolve pwd cat f → print body (esc) echo t [> f|>> f] touch f → create empty (error if exists? create/overwrite empty) rm f → delete (with rm -r for dirs? keep files only) mkdir? skip (seed only dirs) — allow mkdir simple. open <app> → WM.open + print apps → list app ids agent <text> → print 'routing to agent…' + Agent.run(text) calc <expr> → CalcEngine.eval + print play [track] / stop → synth caps (quiet, no window focus? open synth? keep silent + print status) timer <n>[smh] [label] → timers.set caps (no window) date, uptime (since boot), whoami → 'guest', sysinfo → few lines (runtime, fs usage, agent tasks count, net bytes 0) theme? skip. history → print hist. about → version line. reset → confirm? print 'wipe stored data? type: reset confirm' two-step. ``` Path utils: resolve(path, cwd) → normalized; FS node lookup; FS structure: ```js FS={ tree:{ type:'dir', ch:{ system:{dir:{manifest.txt, log.txt}}, notes:{dir}, readme.txt:{file, body}, ... } } } ``` Implement helpers: FS.get(path), FS.write(path, body), FS.append, FS.mkdir, FS.rm, FS.ls, FS.save() → localStorage 'otto.fs' JSON; load at boot; if absent → seed. Seed files: - /readme.txt: welcome doc (nice prose). - /system/manifest.txt: list of apps + capabilities (for the curious; also agent reads it? no).

The user wants me to create an "agentic AI app that can control other apps too, no use of 3rd party APIs or anything, everything our own... and no data collecting should be in app". Let me think about what this means: 1. An agentic AI app - an AI agent that can take actions autonomously 2. Can control other apps - like opening apps, automating tasks within them 3. No 3rd party APIs - everything should be built from scratch / local 4. No data collection - privacy-first So this would be something like a local AI agent platform. Since there are no 3rd party APIs, the AI would need to be: - A local rule-based / LLM-like system (we can't run an actual LLM in a browser without an API, but we could build a small intent-parsing engine, or implement a tiny local "language model" simulation) - App control: on web, we can't actually control OS apps. But we could build a simulated OS environment within the app — like a virtual desktop with multiple mini-apps (notes, calculator, music player, terminal, file explorer, etc.) and the agent can control them through an event/action bus. That's actually the right interpretation for a single self-contained HTML file: build a "local OS" simulation with several apps, and an agentic AI layer that: - Parses natural language commands locally (no API) - Plans multi-step actions (agentic loop: plan → execute → observe → repeat) - Controls the built-in apps through a central action bus - Runs entirely locally, zero network calls, zero telemetry So I'll build "a local-first agentic OS" — like a desktop environment in the browser: **Concept: "NEXUS" or something — a self-contained agentic desktop** Apps I could include: 1. **Terminal** — a working shell with commands (open, close, ls, echo, calc, etc.) 2. **Notes** — a notepad where agent can create/edit notes 3. **Calculator** — agent can do math 4. **Music/Synth player** — using Web Audio API (local, no files) — agent can play tones/tracks 5. **Files** — a virtual file system (in-memory + localStorage optional... but wait, localStorage is local, not data collection, that's fine — data stays on device) 6. **Clock/Timer** — agent can set timers/alarms 7. **Settings** — theme toggles etc. The Agent: - A chat/assistant panel (like a dock or sidebar) - Intent parser: tokenization, pattern matching, entity extraction — all local - Planner: decomposes goals into steps - Executor: runs steps via the action bus, with observation feedback - Agent loop visualization: show its "thoughts", plan steps, execution log — this makes it feel agentic and is a great signature moment The agent should handle things like: - "open notes and write hello world" - "calculate 234 * 12 and save the result to a note" - "play a chill tune for 30 seconds then stop" - "set a timer for 10 seconds" - "open terminal and run ls" - Multi-step: "take a note of the time, then set a timer for 5 minutes" Also the agent could compose: e.g., "calc 12*8 then write result into notes" — needs to carry observation between steps (variables). Design direction — I need to avoid: - Generic dashboard/SaaS feel - Gradient banners, blue/purple, emoji icons - Equal-width card rows I want something memorable. Ideas: - A "local machine" aesthetic — like an homage to early personal computing (think Xerox PARC / early Mac / terminal amber phosphor) but refined, modern typography. - Monospace + a distinctive display font. Fonts: maybe "Space Grotesk" for UI + "JetBrains Mono" or "IBM Plex Mono" for terminal/agent. Space Grotesk is decent but common... Let me think. I could use "Archivo" or "Instrument Serif" for display... A distinctive combo: display serif italic (Instrument Serif) + mono (IBM Plex Mono / Fragment Mono). That gives an "authored" feel. Actually for an "OS" feel, I'd go: near-black background (#0C0C0A or warm dark), off-white text, one accent color — maybe amber/orange phosphor (#FF9F45?) or a warm signal orange like #FF5C1F, or acid green terminal #B8FF29. Let me pick a warm amber/orange on warm charcoal — feels like a machine, avoids blue/purple. Or a phosphor green #7CFF6B... amber is more distinctive and less cliché than matrix green. Let me go amber: #FFB000-ish, classic amber phosphor. Actually classic amber terminal: #FFB000 / #FFA028. That's evocative and beautiful on near-black. Hmm, but I should be careful with contrast — amber on black is fine (high contrast). Layout: - Full-screen "desktop": a top menubar (system name, clock, running apps, agent status indicator) - Windows: draggable, resizable, closable, minimizable — actual window management with z-index stacking. This makes it feel alive. - An agent console: could be a window itself (the "Agent" app) — with chat input, and a live plan/trace view. Apps as windows: 1. Terminal 2. Notes 3. Calculator 4. Synth (music) 5. Files (virtual FS) 6. Timers/Clock 7. Agent console (always available, maybe docked) Signature moment: The agent's "thinking" visualization — when you give it a command, it shows a live trace: `PARSE → PLAN → EXECUTE → OBSERVE` with steps appearing one by one, actual app windows getting manipulated in real time (typing animation in notes, calculator pressing buttons, terminal running commands). Watching the agent physically type into the notes app is delightful. I'll animate agent actions: when the agent writes a note, you see characters stream in; when it presses calculator, the display updates. Architecture (all in one file): - `OS` object: window manager, app registry, virtual filesystem, event bus - `Agent`: parser, planner, executor with a small step queue and async loop - Apps register capabilities: e.g., Notes exposes `write(text)`, `append`, `clear`; Terminal exposes `run(cmd)`; Calculator exposes `evaluate(expr)`, `press(key)`; Synth exposes `play(track/notes)`, `stop`; Timers expose `set(seconds, label)`. The parser: rule-based NLU. I'll write a decent intent matcher: - Tokenize, lowercase - Patterns with regex: /open (the )?(app )?(\w+)/, /write (a )?note .../, /calc(ulate)? .../, /play .../, /set (a )?timer .../, /close .../, etc. - Support chained commands with "and", "then", ",". - Support "result"/"it" referencing previous observation. Planner: convert intents into action steps: `{ app, action, args, label }`. Some steps produce outputs (calculator result, terminal output) stored in agent context for chaining. Executor: runs steps sequentially with delays for visibility, updates trace UI, performs window focus/animation. Also manual control: user can use apps directly. The agent can also read app state ("what's in my notes?" — agent reads state and answers). That's nice: `query` intents: "what time is it", "what's on my notes", "list files". Terminal commands: `help`, `ls`, `cd`, `cat `, `echo`, `open `, `agent ` (sends to agent), `clear`, `date`, `whoami`, `sysinfo`, `theme`. The virtual FS: a small tree with a few files (readme.txt, etc.). Agent can also write files via terminal? Keep it manageable. Calculator: a real calculator with keypad, keyboard input, expression evaluation (write my own small expression parser — shunting-yard or recursive descent — no eval... actually eval is fine locally but writing a parser is more craft; I'll write a compact recursive-descent parser supporting + - * / % ^ parentheses, unary minus). Synth: Web Audio API — build a tiny sequencer with a few generative "tracks" (defined as note patterns in code, synthesized with oscillators + simple envelope + delay). Tracks: e.g., "Ambient Pulse", "Night Drive", "Rainfall Arp". Agent can play/pause/stop, set volume. No audio files needed. Timers: setTimer with countdown display, alarm sound via Web Audio beep. Agent can set timers and cancel. Files app: virtual FS browser (folders as tree, click file to preview in a viewer pane). Agent can create files? Maybe notes app saves to FS: each note is a file in /notes. That's a nice integration: notes are files; terminal `cat` can read them; agent "save note as X". Let me keep scope sane but rich. Core must work flawlessly: - Window manager (drag, focus, minimize, close, z-order, taskbar entries) - Agent with plan/execute trace + typing animations - 5-6 apps - Menu bar clock (real time) - No network calls at all (fonts... hmm, Google Fonts is a CDN external reference — allowed. But "no 3rd party APIs" — fonts aren't APIs, and CDN references are allowed by my delivery constraints. Still, the user emphasized "everything our own" — fonts from Google Fonts CDN are fine as they're just assets, but to be extra safe about "no data collecting", Google Fonts doesn't collect in a meaningful sense... I could use font CDN. My constraint allows external CDN. I'll use Google Fonts for typography — it's fine, and note the app makes zero API/network calls beyond font loading. Alternatively use system monospace stack... but I want distinctive typography. I'll load fonts via CDN but design fallbacks. Actually, to be truly "nothing external", I could avoid even fonts... The user said "no use of 3rd party APIs" — fonts aren't APIs. I'll use Google Fonts (IBM Plex Mono + a display font). Let me pick: "Space Grotesk" for UI text and "IBM Plex Mono" for mono. Hmm Space Grotesk is a bit overused in AI-generated stuff. Alternatives: "Archivo" / "Archivo Expanded"? "Chivo Mono"? Let me go with: - Display/headings: "Archivo" with wide weights? Or "Instrument Serif" for a distinctive editorial touch in the menubar/branding. - Mono: "IBM Plex Mono" or "JetBrains Mono". I think a striking combo: **"Instrument Serif"** (italic for brand moments) + **"IBM Plex Mono"** for everything else. An OS界面 in mono feels right (terminal heritage), with serif italic accents for the agent's "voice" — that's a nice authored touch: the agent speaks in serif italic, the machine speaks in mono. That's a memorable design idea! The agent's persona = serif italic humanist voice; system/apps = mono machine voice. Color: warm dark charcoal (#0E0D0B), paper-amber accent (#FFB000 / #E8A33D), off-white (#EDE6D8 warm). Maybe a secondary dim tone. Amber phosphor vibe without being cheesy. Selected states in amber. Agent messages could have amber left rule. Keep it restrained: mostly monochrome + amber accent. Alternatively a light "paper terminal" theme... dark is more evocative for an OS. I'll do dark with high contrast. Also add a subtle scanline/noise? Maybe very subtle grain texture via CSS (repeating gradient at low opacity) — but I said no decorative gradients... a subtle noise/grain via SVG feTurbulence data URI could add texture without being a "gradient ornament". Careful — I want it purposeful: a faint CRT scanline on the desktop background could reinforce the "machine" concept. I'll add an extremely subtle scanline overlay (2px repeating) at like 3% opacity. That's thematic, not decorative fluff. Hmm, it could risk looking cheap. I'll make it very subtle or skip. Maybe skip scanlines, use a fine dot grid on the desktop background instead (like a blueprint/workbench). A dot grid on desktop = "workbench" feel. Good. Windows styling: sharp corners or 2px radius, 1px borders in warm gray, title bars with app name in mono uppercase + tracking, close/minimize as small square buttons (not emoji, use inline SVG or characters like ×). Icons: I should use an icon library... constraint says use an icon library for small icons rather than emoji. I can inline my own SVG icons (hand-authored) — that's even better than a library and keeps everything "our own" which matches the user's request. Inline SVGs count as proper icons. I'll draw simple geometric icons (terminal chevron, note lines, calculator grid, waveform, folder, clock, agent spark/asterisk). Icons as inline SVG sprite: define ``s and ``. Simple stroke-based icons, 1.5px stroke, consistent. Let me now plan the whole thing concretely. ### Structure ```
