Create gospel-soul and Broadway inspired chord progressions ...
Prompt
Create gospel-soul and Broadway inspired chord progressions for a 4-movement saxophone quartet piece. The first movement will be a strong, mostly Broadway-inspired piece (think Wicked, Les Mis). The second movement will be a gospel soul-inspired (50s-80s black worship/church gospel) ballad, featuring Alto sax. The third movement will be a medium-tempo gospel/blues inspired piece featuring Bari sax for the first half of the song. The fourth and final movement will be a combination inspired piece, equal parts Broadway and gospel, with a shifting tempo. Every saxophone should have a solo melody in the fourth movement at some point. You may add moving quarter-note chords (or moving triplets, quarter or half notes) when it will add color, energy, and movement to the cadence. When writing your progressions, think about the fact that you will only have 4 voices to create the chords - they must still be rich and beautiful. This saxophone quartet will have the usual SATB instrumentation (soprano, Alto, tenor, baritone).
