The user wants a todo app, rendered in an iframe, single HTML file with everything inline. I need to make this memorable, not a generic checkbox list. Let me think about what makes a todo app feel authored rather than generated. Common cheap patterns I'll avoid: - Generic card grid of todos - Gradient buttons/banners - Default blue/purple scheme - Emoji icons - Inter font - alert() for feedback What could be a signature concept for a todo app? Some ideas: 1. **"Today's ledger"** — a paper-like, editorial design. Serif typography, ruled lines like a physical notebook, tasks written in ink. Crossing out with an animated hand-drawn strike-through. That's charming and tactile. 2. **Day grid / timeline** — tasks placed on a vertical timeline with drag to reorder. 3. **Terminal-style** — fun but overdone. 4. **"Post-it wall"** — sticky notes, but that's clichéd. 5. **Editorial "The Daily Ledger"** — newspaper style. Tasks as printed entries, strike-through when done like a printed correction. A masthead with the date in elegant serif. This feels crafted. I like the notebook/ledger idea: a warm paper background, ruled lines, tasks written with a handwritten-ish font (like "Caveat" or "Kalam" from Google Fonts) for the task text, and a serif display font (like "Fraunces" or "Playfair Display") for headings. When you check off a task, an animated hand-drawn strike-through line draws across it (SVG path animation). That's a signature moment. Interactions: - Add task via an input that looks like a new ruled line ("write here...") - Checkbox is a hand-drawn circle that you click, gets a checkmark drawn - Strike-through animation on completion - Drag to reorder? Could add but might complicate. Maybe simpler: priority via clicking a small flag? Keep focused. - Filters: All / Active / Done — styled as tabs or small text links - Delete: hover reveals a small × — with a subtle confirmation? Maybe just delete with a nice exit animation (task crumples or slides out) - Counter in header: "3 of 7 done" - Empty state: an elegant line like "The page is blank. What will you write first?" - Persistence via localStorage - Editing: double-click to edit inline - Clear completed action Sound? Maybe subtle — skip audio to keep it tight, or add optional tiny click sound via WebAudio? Could be a nice detail but risky. I'll add a very subtle pencil-scratch... no, skip audio, focus on visuals and motion. Layout: centered sheet of paper on a desk-like background (warm dark or muted). The paper has ruled lines (repeating linear-gradient), a red margin line on the left, maybe a subtle paper texture with noise (SVG feTurbulence). Header inside the paper: date in serif, day count, small statistics. Colors: warm cream paper (#faf6ec / #f7f2e7), ink (#2b2622 dark warm), accent red margin line (#c0392b-ish muted, like #b3432e), pencil gray. Avoid blue/purple. This palette is distinct. Fonts: - Display: "Fraunces" (elegant, characterful serif) from Google Fonts - Handwriting: "Caveat" or "Shadows Into Light" — Caveat is nice and legible. Task text in Caveat at larger size feels like handwriting. - Maybe a mono for tiny labels? Could use Fraunces small caps. Icons: I'll avoid emoji. Use inline SVG icons (trash, plus, drag handle). Since no emoji, inline SVGs are fine (the restriction is on emoji as icons; SVG is fine and I'll craft them). Signature moment: the hand-drawn strike-through. When you complete a task, an SVG path draws across the text with a rough, slightly wobbly line (using a path with slight curves), animated with stroke-dashoffset. Also the checkbox draws a check. Additional flourishes: - New tasks "write in" with a subtle animation (fade + slight rotate like being placed) - Deleting: task line gets scribbled out and fades, or slides off - Hover on task: small pencil/drag affordance - A "today" stamp or a red wax-ish date? Keep restrained. Let me design structure: ``` - Desk background: dark warm (#3a352f?) or a muted olive/linen. Maybe a deep warm charcoal with subtle texture so the paper pops. - Paper sheet: max-width ~640px, slight rotation? A tiny rotation (0.3deg) gives organic feel but could look sloppy; maybe paper tape at top (washi tape corners)? A piece of tape at top center is a nice touch — semi-transparent tan tape. That's crafted, not cheap. - Inside paper: - Masthead: "Today" big Fraunces italic, date line below in small caps with dot leaders, count "3 done · 4 to go" - Ruled writing area: tasks sit on ruled lines. Each task: custom checkbox (hand-drawn circle), text in Caveat, delete × appears on hover, maybe a small "flag" priority toggle. - Input line at bottom: looks like a fresh ruled line with placeholder "Write a new task…" in faint Caveat, an ink pot / plus icon at left. - Footer row: filters (All / Open / Done) as small underlined text links, "clear finished" action. ``` Ruled lines: I'll implement ruled lines per-task using the paper's repeating gradient behind tasks; align line-height to the rule spacing (e.g., 44px). The input line also has its own underline. Actually simpler and more controlled: each task row has its own bottom border (slightly wavy? straight is fine, but hand-drawn wavy would be better). I can use an SVG or a CSS border with slight irregularity. Straight ruled lines like a real notebook are fine and read as "notebook". Red margin line: left vertical line ~64px from left edge, tasks indented past it. Ruled notebook aesthetic. Priority: maybe skip priority to keep the design pure; instead add "star" ? Hmm, adding features: a priority flag drawn as a small hand-drawn asterisk? Let me include a simple but meaningful feature: clicking the little margin number could... Let's keep feature set: add, complete (animated), edit inline (double-click), delete (animated), reorder (drag with handle), filters, persistence, clear done. Drag reorder adds real interactivity depth. I'll implement HTML5 drag & drop or pointer-based drag. Pointer-based custom drag is nicer but more code. HTML5 draggable is simpler; I'll do draggable rows with a subtle lift. Actually with rows that contain text selection issues, draggable works okay. Let me implement pointer-based dragging for smoothness: on pointerdown on drag handle, track movement, translate a floating clone... that's a lot. Simpler: use draggable="true" on the row, dragover to compute insertion. With CSS class .dragging for opacity. That's manageable and robust. Edge: draggable interferes with double-click edit? Should be fine. Persistence: localStorage key "ledger.tasks.v1". Seed data on first run: a few example tasks so first impression lands (e.g., "Reply to Anna's letter", "Book dentist appointment", "Water the ferns", "Start reading 'The Design of Everyday Things'"). Written like a personal ledger. Stats in header: "4 to go · 2 done". Also maybe a tiny progress indication: a small ink-fill line? Or "day progress" as a fraction "3/6". Keep text. Filters as text tabs: "everything / still open / done" — lowercase, with active one underlined in red pencil. Clear done: "cross off the finished ones"? That label is confusing; "erase finished" fits notebook metaphor. Small text button "erase finished" appears only when there are done tasks. Delete animation: line gets a quick scribble strike (reuse strike path) then row collapses height and fades. Complete animation: SVG strike path draws over ~350ms with a hand-drawn wobble; text fades to lighter ink color; checkbox check draws. Strike path generation: for each task, an absolutely positioned SVG spanning the text width. Path: M 0,y C ... with random-ish wobble. I'll generate path dynamically based on measured text width. Use pathLength trick: set stroke-dasharray = length, animate offset to 0. Use getTotalLength(). Hand-drawn circle checkbox: an SVG circle with slightly imperfect path (predefine a wobbly circle path), on check a checkmark path draws in. On uncheck, reverse (just swap states with transition on opacity/dashoffset — reversing dashoffset works both ways). Wobbly circle path (viewBox 0 0 24 24): something like M12 3.2 C 16.8 3.0 20.6 7.4 20.4 12.2 C 20.2 17 16.4 20.8 11.8 20.6 C 7.2 20.4 3.4 16.6 3.6 11.8 C 3.8 7.2 7.4 3.4 12 3.2 — nearly closed circle with wobble. Check path: M6.5 12.4 L10.6 16.3 L17.6 7.6 with stroke draw. Also: new input — pressing Enter adds task with a "written in" animation: text appears with a clip/typewriter? A quick fade + slight ink-bleed (letter-spacing tighten) is nice. Also could animate a little pen line. Keep it: fade-in + translateY(-2px) + rotate(-0.4deg) settle. Sound design: skip. Extra flourish — "tape": two pieces of translucent tape at top corners of the paper, rotated slightly. With subtle shadow. Made with CSS (background rgba tan, slight transparency, box-shadow). Nice authored touch. Paper texture: subtle noise via inline SVG feTurbulence as data-URI background, low opacity. And a soft shadow under paper. Desk background: deep warm charcoal-brown (#2e2a26) with a vignette (radial-gradient — wait, gradients restriction: no *decorative* gradients as primary device. A subtle radial vignette on a dark desk is atmospheric/lighting, not a "gradient banner". I think a soft vignette is acceptable craft (lighting), not decoration abuse. To be safe, I can keep it very subtle — radial gradient from #35302a center to #241f1b edges. That's lighting realism for the paper-on-desk concept, integral to the design. I'll keep it subtle and purposeful.) Hmm, the rule says no decorative gradients to fake design sense; a vignette for a physical desk scene is functional atmosphere. I'll use it sparingly. Fonts via Google Fonts link: Fraunces (opsz, wght 400..600, ital) and Caveat (400..600). Typographic details: - Header: "Today" — maybe better: the actual date is the masthead? Like a diary: big italic Fraunces "Thursday" (day name) with date "June 12, 2025" small beneath, right-aligned count. Compute from Date(). - Add a small red stamp-like "N° of tasks"? Cute: top-right corner a small circular stamp with count? Could be nice: a hand-drawn circle stamp with "3 / 6" in it — like a date stamp. Might be clutter. I'll do a modest line: "four to go · two done" written in Caveat in red pencil, right side. Numbers written as words? Could be charming: convert small numbers to words ("three to go"). I'll write a tiny number-to-words for 0–20 fallback digits. That's a lovely authored detail. Actually mixing: "3 open · 2 done" is clearer. The words-in-red-pencil idea is more distinctive: "three to go, two done". I'll do words with fallback to digits above 12. Nice. Empty state: centered Caveat message in faint ink: "a fresh page — what's first?" plus nothing else. Filters still visible. Edit mode: double-click text → becomes an input styled identically (Caveat, transparent bg, bottom border dashed), Enter/blur commits, Esc cancels. Drag handle: appears on hover at left in margin area — a small "⠿"-like six-dot icon as SVG. Draggable whole row via handle? HTML5 draggable on the row; but text selection... set draggable on row, user can only meaningfully drag via handle if I only enable draggable when handle pressed — trick: row draggable=false by default; on handle pointerdown set row.draggable=true, on dragend/pointerup set false. That's a known pattern. Implement. Reorder logic: on dragover over another row, determine before/after by mouse Y midpoint, insert placeholder / move DOM directly and reorder data on drop. Simplest: allow live DOM reorder with data sync on drop. I'll do: dragstart store index; dragover on rows compute and move DOM element; drop/dragend → rebuild order from DOM dataset ids. Works. Filters + drag: drag only meaningful in "everything" view; I'll just allow it always, reorder among visible (keep simple: only allow reorder in "everything"; in filtered views, hide handles). Simpler: handles hidden unless filter==all. Good. Let me also add subtle interaction: hovering a task slightly tilts the text (rotate -0.3deg) like paper breathing? Maybe just strike preview? Keep restrained: hover shows delete × and drag handle with fade. Keyboard: Enter in input adds; Escape clears; "/" focuses input? Add small shortcut: pressing "n" or "/" focuses new-task input (when not typing). Mention in a tiny hint in footer: "press / to write". Nice detail. Header date: Fraunces, e.g. big italic day name. Layout: ``` [tape] THURSDAY ————— June 12 three to go, one done (nice rule line with dot leaders?) ``` Maybe: left: small caps "TODAY'S PAGE" over big "Thursday 12 June". Right: red pencil note. Below, a horizontal rule (double rule like ledger: thick + thin line — classic ledger style! That's a great authored detail: a double rule under the masthead.) Ledger number column: tasks numbered 1., 2., 3. in the margin (Fraunces small, gray). That reinforces "ledger". Yes — margin numbers instead of drag handles always visible? Both: number + handle on hover. Numbers in red like ledger index? Ledger indexes often in red/bold. I'll do red-brown numbers. On complete, does the number get struck too? Strike only the text; checkbox circle fills. Counts animation: when count changes, red note re-renders with a tiny flip? Just update text, maybe slight fade. Let me think about the strike-through implementation more concretely: Task row structure: ```html

Reply to Anna's letter

``` Ruled line: each .task has height 52px with a bottom "rule": use ::after positioned bottom with the line color #d8cbb4 (light) — and for the row the text baseline should sit on the line like real handwriting on a rule. Caveat with line-height matching. Text bottom padding so text sits just above the rule. Ruled lines should be continuous even across the input and empty space below? Real notebooks have lines continuing to bottom. I could give the list a background of repeating linear-gradient lines (spacing 52px) so empty space below last task still shows rules — very evocative of a real notepad! Yes: the writing area has repeating-linear-gradient(transparent 0 51px, rule 51px 52px) aligned so rows sit on lines. Rows are exactly 52px tall so alignment matches automatically. And the paper extends to a min-height so blank ruled area shows. The input is also 52px on a rule. Alignment concern: box-sizing and margins must be exact. Rows: height 52px, no vertical margins, list padding 0. Container's gradient starts at top of container. First row occupies 0–52 with its rule at 52 (row's own ::after bottom line at its bottom = 52). Gradient lines must also be at 52, 104... If container starts exactly where rows start, aligned. But if first row starts after some offset (e.g., padding-top of container), set background-position accordingly. I'll just ensure container has no top padding; spacing handled outside. Actually the row's bottom rule via ::after might double with gradient line — remove ::after, rely solely on container background gradient for rules. Rows are transparent with height 52px. Text vertically positioned to sit on the line: line-height 52px? For handwriting sitting on rule, baseline near bottom: use flex align-items:flex-end with padding-bottom ~6px on content. I'll tune: .task { height:52px; display:flex; align-items:flex-end; } inner elements have margin-bottom small. Strike svg positioned over text area. Checkbox vertical alignment: also bottom-ish aligned with text baseline. Fine with align-items:flex-end + margins. The input row: same 52px, align-items flex-end, input transparent borderless Caveat 22px, placeholder faint. Underline comes from gradient rule (input sits on last line). Good. Paper min-height: writing area min-height like 8 lines (416px) so there's always blank ruled space. Container of rules: .sheet has padding: masthead area (~110px) then .ruled area. Put background gradient on .ruled with min-height 416px. Red margin line: vertical red line inside .ruled at left: 56px. Gutter width 56px holds numbers/handles. background: linear-gradient vertical line — use a positioned ::before 1px wide red-ish (#c96f5f or classic pink #e8b4b0? Real notebooks: pale pink/red vertical). Use rgba(178,60,46,.45). Strike SVG: .body { position:relative } svg absolute, left:-4px right:-4px top:50%… path generated. I'll create per-task svg with a path; when toggled to done, compute width, set d with wobble: ``` function strikePath(w){ const y = 0; // centered const mid = w/2; return `M2 ${3+r()*2} C ${mid*0.3} ${-2+r()*4}, ${mid*1.2} ${6-r()*4}, ${w-2} ${1+r()*3}`; } ``` Better: a two-segment slight wobble: M0 2 C w*0.25 -3, w*0.4 5, w*0.55 0 S w*0.9 -2, w 2 — something organic. Stroke: #7a4a3a? Strike in red pencil? Completed strike in red looks like graded/cancelled — I'll use a red-orange pencil (#c14b33) for strike, that reads as "crossed off". Text becomes #b9ae9c (faded graphite) — hmm, faded ink color: from #33302b to #a89f8f, and maybe slight opacity. Draw animation: path.style.strokeDasharray = L; offset = L → 0 transition 0.35s ease-out. Un-complete: animate offset back to L (reverse). Good. Tick draw: same technique, 0.25s delay 0.1s after strike start. Circle: on done, maybe redraw circle bolder? Circle stroke ink; done state: circle becomes red-ish? Or fill with faint? Keep: circle ink #4a443c; when done, circle stroke to red and tick red drawn. Unify: done → red pencil accents. Delete: apply quick strike (in gray) then collapse: animate row height 52→0 + opacity, then remove from data. Use CSS transition on max-height/height via inline style after forcing reflow. Add: create row, insert with class .writing → animation translateY(-4px) opacity 0 → settle. Number renumbering after reorder/delete: recompute .num text contents. Count words: function words(n) for 0–13: ["zero","one",..."thirteen"] else digits. Phrase: if open===0 → "all done — clean page" else `${words(open)} to go${done? `, ${words(done)} done`:''}`. Masthead date: ```js const d=new Date(); const days=["Sunday",...]; months=[...]; big = days[d.getDay()]; sub = d.toLocaleDateString(undefined,{day:'numeric',month:'long'}) → but locale? Use English names: months array. "Thursday" big italic, below: "12 June 2025" letterspaced small caps. ``` Filters row + clear done + shortcut hint. Footer inside paper bottom, small Fraunces small-caps or gray. Also maybe a tiny footer outside paper on the desk: nothing needed. Accessibility: buttons with aria-labels, checkbox role. Keep reasonable. Let me now also consider the "signature moment": the strike-through + the whole notebook scene. Additionally maybe when all tasks are done, a small red "✓ ALL DONE" stamp rotates in? A stamp effect: bordered text "PAGE COMPLETE" rotated -8deg stamped in red with animation (scale from 1.4→1 with opacity, like stamping). That's a delightful payoff! Show when open===0 && total>0. Place in the blank ruled area. I'll add it: appears with stamp animation (opacity 0, scale 1.6, rotate -14 → settle -8deg, with slight blur→sharp). Red double-border rounded rectangle, letterpressed. Great signature payoff. Now code. Single HTML file. Let me write carefully. Structure: ```html Today's Page — a small ledger
Today’s page
Thursday
three to go
12 June 2025
a fresh page — what comes first?
page complete
``` Wait: .ruled contains list + form + blank; background gradient on .ruled must align with rows. The rows: list rows 52px each, form row 52px. Gradient lines at multiples of 52 from .ruled top. So .ruled must have zero padding; gutter/red-line inside via ::before spanning full height. Sheet horizontal padding for masthead etc. But .ruled must be inset from sheet edges by sheet padding — fine: sheet has padding: 0 56px? Then red margin at left 20px of ruled area... Let me define: .sheet { width: min(680px, 92vw); padding: 34px 46px 18px; } Hmm but then ruled background starts at padding edge and rules run only content width — fine, notebook rules don't reach paper edge anyway... actually they usually do span most of the page. Content width is fine. Red margin line: I want it left of the task text. .ruled::before { left: 44px; } and gutter width 44+? Let's structure task row: .task { display:flex; align-items:flex-end; height:52px; padding-left: 58px; } gutter positioned absolute at left:0 width:44px (numbers right-aligned at 44px? numbers sit left of red line at 44px... classic: numbers left of margin? Actually margin line separates index from body: numbers left of the red line, text right). Gutter: position absolute left 0, width 40px, text-align right; red line at left 48px; body text starts at 64px padding-left. .num in Fraunces 13px color #c14b33 (red-brown), margin-bottom ~8px to sit on line. handle hidden, on hover show at left of number? Place handle left of number would exceed gutter; place handle to appear right where? Alternative: handle replaces number on hover (number fades, dots appear in same spot). Clean. Checkbox: after gutter, margin-right 14px, margin-bottom 7px so circle (24px) sits on rule. .body flex:1 position relative; .text Caveat 23px line-height 1.1 padding-bottom 6px display inline-block; strike svg absolute overlay. .del button: absolute right? In flex: opacity 0; .task:hover .del {opacity 1}. Color gray hover red. .addrow similar: input flex 1 Caveat 24px; placeholder color #c8bda9 italic-ish (Caveat has no italic; use opacity). Add button: a small plus circle at right? Or the "write" affordance: an ink pen nib icon? I'll do a plus in a hand-drawn circle at the left gutter position (replacing the number column) — pressing it or Enter both add. Gutter spot: a "+" in red Caveat 26px. Right side maybe none. Simple. Blank area: shows ruled empty space (gradient continues since .ruled background covers full). Empty message centered in first ~3 lines; stamp absolutely positioned in blank area center with rotate. Footer: border-top? Between ruled area and footer maybe a thin rule. Filters: Fraunces 13px small-caps letter-spacing, buttons transparent, active gets red underline offset. Sheet styling: background #f9f4e8 with noise; box-shadow: 0 24px 60px rgba(0,0,0,.45), 0 2px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.06) inset? Paper slight top light: box-shadow inset 0 1px rgba(255,255,255,.5)? Keep subtle. Also deckle edge? Keep simple; maybe very slight border-radius 2px and a faint edge line. Noise: data URI svg feTurbulence fractal, opacity .04 as background-image over color, plus on body too? Body: desk texture subtle. Tape: .tape { position:absolute; width:110px; height:30px; background: rgba(214,193,150,.55)? Washi tape slightly transparent tan with subtle stripes? A diagonal light stripe pattern via repeating-linear-gradient — that's texture, acceptable? It's a physical material rendering, subtle. I'll keep tape plain translucent with slight edge irregularity via clip-path polygon jagged ends. box-shadow 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,.18). Position: top:-12px; left:50% translateX(-50%) rotate(-2deg) — one center tape is enough; two corners might be fussy. One center tape, rotated. Clip-path jagged: polygon with zigzag on left/right ends. Now colors: - desk: #262019 → vignette radial-gradient(1200px at 50% 30%, #332b22, #1d1813) - paper: #f8f2e3; noise overlay - ink: #3a352c; heading #2f2a22 - rule line: #dccfb4 (or rgba(180,160,120,.35)) - red pencil accent: #bf4632 / softer #c4573f - faint ink (done text): #a49a86 with strike red - placeholder: #bfb298 Masthead: - .over: 11px letterspaced uppercase Fraunces color #8b7f68, "TODAY'S PAGE"? maybe just "A SMALL LEDGER". Hmm masthead copy: over-line "a small ledger" letterspaced; big day name italic Fraunces 44px "Thursday"; date line right side? Layout: row: h1 left, tally right (red Caveat 20px, rotated -1deg like pencil note). Then date small caps left under h1? Let me do: ``` over: A SMALL LEDGER (left) ... right: nothing h1: Thursday (italic 46) tally: three to go, one done (red, caveat 21, rotate -1.5deg, self-end) date: 12 June 2025 · № 163 (small caps, with "№ day-of-year"! cute ledger detail: day number of year) double rule ``` Day-of-year compute. "№ 163" nice. Stamp: border:3px solid rgba(191,70,50,.8); color same; padding 8px 18px; border-radius 6px; font Fraunces 700 small caps letterspacing 3px; box-shadow inset 0 0 0 1.5px? double border via outline offset: use box-shadow: 0 0 0 2px inside? Keep: border 3px + inner 1px via ::after inset border. rotate(-8deg). Add slight texture mask? Keep solid but with mix-blend multiply so it looks inked on paper: color rgba(191,70,50,.85), plus filter? Fine. Animation stamp: keyframes stampIn { from {opacity:0; transform: rotate(-16deg) scale(1.7);} 60% {opacity:1; transform: rotate(-7deg) scale(.96);} to { transform: rotate(-8deg) scale(1);} } with cubic-bezier punchy. Also add subtle paper "thud"? no audio. Also maybe when stamp shows, also add tally text "all done". words(0) → "nothing" to go: phrase if open===0 && total>0: "nothing left — page complete"? tally: "all crossed off". Good. Wobbly circle path for checkbox (24 viewBox): `M12 3.4 C 16.6 3 20.5 6.9 20.6 11.6 C 20.7 16.4 16.9 20.4 12.2 20.6 C 7.4 20.8 3.5 17 3.4 12.3 C 3.3 7.7 7.3 3.8 12 3.4 Z`? Not closed Z — hand-drawn circles overlap start slightly: end slightly past start: ... C 7.3 3.6 9.5 3.5 12.4 3.35. I'll craft: d="M12.2 3.3 C 16.9 3.1 20.6 6.8 20.7 11.5 C 20.8 16.3 17 20.3 12.3 20.6 C 7.6 20.9 3.6 17.1 3.4 12.4 C 3.2 7.8 6.9 3.9 11.6 3.4" Tick: "M6.8 12.6 C 8.4 13.8 9.4 15 10.3 16.5 C 12.2 12.9 14.6 9.9 17.4 7.5" (slightly curved check — more hand-drawn than straight lines). Circle default state: dashoffset 0 (visible), stroke #4d463b width 1.6. Done: circle stroke → var red via CSS transition on stroke (works), tick drawn red. Tick path length ~ set via JS or pathLength="1" trick! Use pathLength="1" and dasharray 1 offset 1 → 0. That avoids measuring. Same for strike path: set pathLength="1" attribute, dasharray:1, dashoffset:1; transition to 0. But strike path 'd' changes per task width — generate with getTotalLength? With pathLength=1 normalization, dasharray 1 works regardless. Strike generation: create svg with path, set d based on text width, pathLength=1, CSS: .strike path { stroke-dasharray:1; stroke-dashoffset:0; transition: stroke-dashoffset .38s ease; } .task:not(.done) .strike path { stroke-dashoffset:1; transition-duration:.25s } — but changing 'd' resets? Changing d on same path with pathLength fine. Regenerating wobble each time adds organic variety. On toggle done: set random d, force reflow? Transition needs start value = previous. If d changes while dashoffset transitions 1→0, ok. On un-done: dashoffset back to 1 (line retracts). Fine. Strike positioning: svg absolute inset:0 of .body, but text is inline-block sized to content; svg should overlay text only: make .body display:flex? Simpler: .body { position:relative; flex:1; } .strike { position:absolute; left:0; top: 50%?? } Text width varies; strike should span text width + small overhang. Get text width via getBoundingClientRect of .text; set svg width/height accordingly (svg width=text.width+12, height=18, positioned left:-6, bottom: 8px (so it crosses text middle near baseline)). Text sits above rule with padding-bottom 6px; strike at baseline-ish: bottom: 10px maybe. Compute in JS: svg.style.left='-6px'; svg.style.bottom='9px'; width w=textW+14. Actually .text inline-block; .body has also del button? del is separate flex item. So .body width might exceed text; anchor strike to .text offset: svg positioned relative to .body at left 0 (text starts at 0 in body since body only contains text). Good, body padding none. Viewbox: set svg viewBox=`0 0 ${w} 16`, preserveAspectRatio="none"? Just set width/height attrs equal to coordinates, no scaling issues. Strike d for width w: ``` const y1=7+rnd*3-1.5 ... d = `M2 ${6.5+a} C ${w*0.28} ${6.5-a2}, ${w*0.52} ${7+a3}, ${w*0.7} ${6.2-a4} S ${w-4} ${7.4}, ${w-1.5} ${6.6}` ``` Let me just write a helper: ```js function scribble(w,h=15){ const j=()=> (Math.random()*3-1.5); const y=7.5; return `M1.5 ${y+j()} C ${w*.25} ${y-2+j()}, ${w*.45} ${y+2.4+j()}, ${w*.62} ${y-.6+j()} S ${w*.92} ${y-2.2+j()}, ${w-1} ${y+.8+j()}`; } ``` Good enough — a gently waving line. Stroke width 1.7, linecap round, color var(--red) with slight opacity .85. Maybe two passes (double stroke like pencil)? One pass fine. Delete scribble: before removal, quickly draw a gray strike then collapse. Implement: add class .removing → JS sets strike d & offset to 0 with .18s, also text opacity .4; then after 200ms collapse: row style height transition 52→0 requires row overflow hidden & height set: set inline height 52px then rAF to 0 with transition .28s; also opacity. Then remove data & renumber. Also rules gradient stays (rows removed). margin-bottom 0. And gutter/checkbox/del opacity→0 during collapse. Renumber after removal: numbers update. Also filtering hides rows (display none) — numbers should still show original index? Ledger numbers should reflect position in full list (like ledger lines) — renumbering by data order regardless of filter: numbers always data-index+1. When filtered, hidden rows' numbers still consistent. Good: number = position in tasks array. Drag reorder only when filter all (handle hidden otherwise). After reorder, renumber. Data model: {id, text, done, created}. Save on change. Load; if none & no saved flag: seed examples. Use localStorage 'ledger-todo-v1'. Seed: - "Reply to Anna's letter" - "Book the dentist, finally" - "Water the ferns on the sill" - "Start reading 'The Design of Everyday Things'" — long text; okay. Maybe 5: add one done: "Send Friday notes" done:true? Showing a completed example demonstrates strike immediately — good for first impression! Yes seed with one done. IDs: Date.now()+random. Rendering approach: build DOM rows once per task, keep map id→element; updates mutate DOM (no full re-render) so animations persist. Functions: addTask, toggle, remove, edit, reorder. Toggle handler on .check click. Edit: dblclick on .text → replace with input.edit (Caveat 23px, border-bottom dashed 1px #c9b9a0, background transparent, width 100%). Commit on Enter/blur; Esc cancel. Update data+save. Strike width may change if done? done text editing allowed; recompute strike if done: just re-set d with new width & ensure offset 0. Keyboard shortcut '/': document keydown if e.key==='/' && document.activeElement not input/textarea → focus addInput, preventDefault. Also 'Escape' in addInput clears. Filter logic: setFilter(f); rows get hidden class. Empty message vs stamp in blank area: show message only when total===0; stamp when total>0&&open===0; when filter hides? Blank area independent of filter: if total===0 show fresh-page message. If open===0 show stamp (regardless of filter? if filter=open and none open but done exist, blank shows stamp too — fine, communicates). Also erase button visibility: done>0. Tally update: as described; also update on filter? Tally is global counts. Erase finished: animate all done rows (scribble+collapse staggered 60ms) then filter data. Nice cascade — delightful. Stagger via setTimeout i*70. Hint text: "press / to write" small gray; hide on small screens maybe. Now, mobile: sheet width 92vw; masthead sizes shrink via clamp. .del on touch: always visible? Use @media (hover:none) { .del,.handle {opacity:.35} } so they're discoverable. Let me also add slight per-row rotation for handwriting realism? Rows rotated individually would break rule alignment visually (lines straight). Instead, text baseline jitter: each row's text gets tiny random rotate (-0.5..0.5deg) and translateY ±0.5px — organic but lines remain. Apply via inline style on creation with data-seed. Subtle. And checkbox slight rotation too. I'll apply small rotation to .text (max .4deg) and to checkbox (max 6deg). Header double rule: border-top 2.5px solid #38322a + second 1px line 3px below: implement with div height 5px, border-top 2px, border-bottom 1px, background transparent. Classic thick-thin. Color ink. Also under masthead before rules, spacing ~18px. Let me now write the strike transitions carefully with pathLength: CSS: ```css .strike { position:absolute; pointer-events:none; overflow:visible; } .strike path { fill:none; stroke:var(--red); stroke-width:1.8; stroke-linecap:round; stroke-dasharray:1; stroke-dashoffset:1; opacity:.9; transition: stroke-dashoffset .38s cubic-bezier(.5,0,.3,1); } .task.done .strike path { stroke-dashoffset:0; } ``` When creating strike path before row appended: set d. Path persists. For delete scribble: add class .scrib on task: .task.scrib .strike path { stroke-dashoffset:0; transition-duration:.16s; stroke: #8b8172 }. But transition from dashoffset 1→0 requires initial computed at 1; since we set d after? Order: create path with d & pathLength=1; CSS gives offset 1. Append. When .done added → transitions to 0. If same element later used for delete scribble, fine. Checkbox CSS: ```css .check { border:0; background:none; padding:0; cursor:pointer; width:25px;height:25px; margin:0 13px 8px 0; flex:none; } .check svg { width:100%; height:100%; overflow:visible } .check .ring { fill:none; stroke:#57503f; stroke-width:1.5; transition: stroke .3s; } .check .tickpath { fill:none; stroke:var(--red); stroke-width:2; linecap round; dasharray 1; offset 1; transition .28s .08s } .task.done .ring { stroke:var(--red) } .task.done .tickpath { offset 0 } .task.done .text { color: #a99f8b; } .text { transition: color .35s } ``` Hover on check: ring slightly darker + scale 1.06. Also cursor: .task.done pointer? fine. Row hover: .task:hover .text maybe darken slightly. Del button: absolute right 0 bottom 8px? Place as flex item aligned: margin-left:auto? Since .body flex:1, del after body aligned flex-end: margin-bottom 8px; opacity 0; transition .2s; hover → 1; color #a09580, hover color red. Icon: × as two lines svg 14px, stroke-width 1.8. Or a small "tear" icon? × fine, crafted via svg with slightly uneven lines for hand-feel: lines M3 3 L13 13.4 / M13.1 2.8 L2.8 13.2 — slight asymmetry. Handle svg: 2x3 dots grid, fill #b4a88e; width 10px. Position: gutter, replacing number on row hover: .num transition opacity; .handle absolute same spot opacity 0 → 1 on hover. cursor grab. On filter!==all hide both handle & keep number? When filtered, numbering shows original ledger positions — good. Wait — dragging rows: I set row.draggable on handle pointerdown. Also need dragstart set dataTransfer with id; dragover on list: find closest row under cursorY, decide before/after; move dragged DOM node live. On dragend: rebuild order: read list children ids → reorder tasks array → save → renumber. During drag add .dragging { opacity:.45 }. Also default drag image is row snapshot — fine. preventDefault on dragover to allow drop. Only when filter all — handle hidden otherwise so can't start. Also careful: dblclick to edit vs drag handle click-to-drag conflict minimal. Text selection: user-select none on rows? Allow selection? Handwriting paper: selection styling custom ::selection background red-ish light. Keep selectable except while dragging irrelevant. Fine, but dblclick selects word — then input replaces; ok. Renumber function: rows in DOM order correspond to tasks order; simply iterate tasks and set num text = i+1? Numbers = tasks array index+1. DOM rows order should match tasks order. Maintain invariant. Empty message toggling & stamp: function refreshBlank(). Blank container min-height? .ruled min-height 470px; content = rows + addrow(52) + blank(flex grow). Blank: display block; .empty centered margin-top 40px; stamp absolutely? Let blank be position:relative; empty message centered; when tasks exist and open==0, show stamp centered at top ~40px. If tasks exist and open>0, blank just empty ruled space. Simple. Rules gradient: `.ruled { background-image: repeating-linear-gradient(to bottom, transparent 0, transparent 51px, var(--rule) 51px, var(--rule) 52px); }` — top line at y=51.5? Row content 0..52 with rule at 51-52 (1px). But visually the rule should be *under* text baseline: text bottom padding ~7px above rule. Rows aligned flex-end; addrow input line-height place text bottom ~7px above line. Then first rule at 52 (end of row1) etc. Since gradient starts at ruled top (which is top of list). Ensure list/rows margin 0. But wait: ruled also contains blank area at bottom — gradient covers it continuously. And addrow is a ruled line too — after last task, the addrow line is next rule. When a new task added, it appears between last task and addrow — DOM insert before form. Numbers: new task takes next number. Good. One nuance: strike transition on newly added row done state (seed done tasks on load) — I want initial done rows to show strike already drawn without animating on load? Animation on load actually is charming — strokes draw in on load, staggered! Signature: on first paint, done tasks' strikes draw themselves one by one (stagger 150ms), ticks too. Lovely "ink drying" moment. Implement: after initial render, for each done task, add .done class with stagger delay. But text color should fade too — color transition tied to .done class will animate as well. Implement: rows render without .done; then requestAnimationFrame → done rows each get .done after i*140+300ms. Store per row doneState; toggle logic uses class. During that stagger, user could click — guard: on toggle click, clearTimeout? Simpler: set data-flag done but class delayed; toggle function toggles class & flag — race if user clicks during stagger: acceptable minor; but let me just also ensure the toggle handler syncs class correctly (it sets/removes class per current flag, overriding schedule — if user unchecks during delay, scheduled timeout would add .done wrongly). Guard: schedule stores timer per row; on toggle, clearTimeout(rowTimer). Fine. Also seed: mark seeded flag in storage. Now the desk scene: center sheet vertically with padding: body min-height 100vh; display grid place-items center; padding 48px 16px. Slight sheet entrance animation on load: translateY(10px) rotate(-.4deg)→0 with shadow ease .7s. Subtle. Also add page and maybe favicon via data URI? Small touch: an SVG favicon of a checked circle. One line, cheap to add, nice detail. Fonts link: ``` <link rel="preconnect" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com"> <link rel="preconnect" href="https://fonts.gstatic.com" crossorigin> <link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Caveat:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Fraunces:ital,opsz,wght@0,9..144,300..700;1,9..144,300..700&display=swap" rel="stylesheet"> ``` Fallbacks: font-family stacks with cursive/serif. Noise data URI: ``` url("data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' width='140' height='140'%3E%3Cfilter id='n'%3E%3CfeTurbulence type='fractalNoise' baseFrequency='0.9' numOctaves='2'/%3E%3C/filter%3E%3Crect width='140' height='140' filter='url(%23n)' opacity='0.05'/%3E%3C/svg%3E") ``` Apply on .sheet as extra background layer above color; on body darker maybe opacity .07. Now writing all code. Let me be careful about details and write final. Number-to-words: ```js const WORDS=['zero','one','two','three','four','five','six','seven','eight','nine','ten','eleven','twelve','thirteen','fourteen','fifteen']; const w=n=> n<=15?WORDS[n]:String(n); ``` Tally text: ```js function tallyText(){ const open=tasks.filter(t=>!t.done).length, done=tasks.length-open; if(!tasks.length) return 'an empty page'; if(!open) return done===1?'all done — one crossed off':'all crossed off'; let s=`${w(open)} to go`; if(done) s+=`, ${w(done)} done`; return s; } ``` Day of year: ```js const start=new Date(d.getFullYear(),0,0); const doy=Math.floor((d-start)/864e5); ``` Date line: `${d.getDate()} ${months[m]} ${y} · № ${doy}`. Filters behavior with class hidden (display:none). Update on filter change and data changes (render applies hidden per current filter to rows). Edit input commit: strip empty → if empty text on commit, treat as delete? If emptied, delete task (with animation). Reasonable. Escape during edit: restore. Also click on text once? Single click does nothing (maybe future toggle by text click? Keep toggle only via circle — like paper). Hmm, clicking text to toggle is handy; but with dblclick edit, single-click toggle then dblclick conflicts (click fires then dblclick). Avoid: toggle only via circle. OK. aria: check button aria-pressed, aria-label `mark "${text}" done`. del aria-label. Fine-ish. Let me now write the strike svg creation: ```js function makeStrike(){ const svg=document.createElementNS(NS,'svg'); svg.setAttribute('class','strike'); const p=document.createElementNS(NS,'path'); svg.appendChild(p); return svg; } function setStrike(row){ const text=row.querySelector('.text'); const w=Math.max(60, text.getBoundingClientRect().width); const svg=row.querySelector('.strike'); svg.setAttribute('viewBox',`0 0 ${w} 16`); svg.style.width=w+'px'; svg.style.height='16px'; svg.querySelector('path').setAttribute('d', scribble(w)); } ``` svg positioned: left:-4px; bottom:10px. But text rotated slightly (jitter) — strike svg inside body not rotated; negligible. Position within .body: .body{position:relative} but .del is separate; strike absolute anchored to body left; text at body left. bottom: relative to body bottom = row bottom (body flex-end aligned? body is flex child with align-items flex-end so body content box bottom = row bottom minus? body height: auto (text). Actually with align-items:flex-end, .body height = its content height; its bottom aligned with row bottom (minus 0). Text bottom padding 7px sits above rule. Strike bottom: set bottom:11px (crossing x-height). I'll eyeball 12px. Hmm careful: .body{flex:1; min-width:0} then del button after. Strike left:-5px width w+10 overhang. For done rows on load: setStrike before drawing (needs layout — call after append; getBoundingClientRect forces layout fine). Resize: strikes drawn width stale on window resize — text width changes (wrap?) .text white-space: nowrap? Long tasks: allow wrap? Wrapping breaks 52px row model. Keep nowrap + overflow visible? Long text would overflow row into next rule. Option: ellipsis with title? Ledger vibe: keep nowrap, allow horizontal shrink with ellipsis (…). Ellipsis on handwriting looks off but acceptable; better: text-overflow: ellipsis? I'll use overflow hidden text-overflow ellipsis white-space nowrap. Strike width uses current width fine. On resize, recompute strikes for done rows: window resize listener throttled → setStrike for done rows (d regenerates—fine). Edit input width 100% nowrap. Now writing CSS fully. Variables: ```css :root{ --paper:#f7f1e0; --paper-hi:#fbf6ea; --ink:#37312a; --ink-soft:#6d6455; --faint:#b3a88f; --rule:#ddcfae; --red:#bc4b32; --red-soft:#c96a52; --desk:#221c15; } ``` Font sizes: mast h1 clamp(34px,6vw,46px) Fraunces italic 500; over-line 10.5px ls .28em uppercase; date 12px small caps ls .18em color ink-soft; tally Caveat 21px red rotate(-1.6deg). Foot buttons: Fraunces 13px ls .06em lowercase color ink-soft; active: color ink + text-decoration underline red offset 4px thickness 1.5px. Hover darken. Erase: same style but red on hover with strike? Keep: color ink-soft; hover red. Hidden class. Hint: 11px color #a79b82; Fraunces italic. Foot layout: display flex justify-between align baseline; margin-top 14px; padding-top 12px; border-top 1px solid #e4d8bd. plus small bottom padding. Sheet padding: 34px 44px 20px. Ruled area margin-top 6px. Red margin ::before: left:46px width:1px background rgba(188,75,50,.4); top 0 bottom 0. Gutter numbers width: 34px right-aligned padding-right 12px → number right edge at 34, red line at 46, text starts padding-left 64px. Wait .task padding-left 64px but addrow too (input aligns with text). addrow: padding-left 64px; plus button positioned absolute left ~ gutter center? "+" as gutter element: absolute left:0 width:34px text-align:right red Caveat 26px cursor pointer, same bottom alignment. Clicking + focuses? It submits form (type submit). It sits at left:0? But .addrow has padding-left 64 — position absolute relative row: left 0 width 34, textalign right → aligns with numbers. margin-bottom 6px. Input: flex:1 Caveat 24px color ink; caret-color red; background transparent border none outline none; padding: 0 8px 7px 0? bottom padding 7 to sit on rule. Placeholder styling: input::placeholder { color:#bcb096; } maybe opacity .8. Focus state: when input focused, its rule (background line) — highlight? We could add a class to .ruled to draw a slightly darker line under addrow? The addrow bottom border none (rule from gradient). Add :focus-within on .addrow → subtle: .addrow::after line darker red at bottom? The gradient line already at same spot; overlay a red-ish line to show "writing here": .addrow::after {content:'';position:absolute;left:64px;right:0;bottom:0;height:2px;background:rgba(188,75,50,.5); transform:scaleX(0); origin left; transition .3s} .addrow:focus-within::after{scaleX(1)}. Nice micro-interaction: red pencil line draws when you start writing. I like it. Also same for row hover? no, keep. Empty/stamp area: .blank { min-height: 120px; position:relative } but to guarantee blank ruled space, .ruled min-height: 468px (9 lines). If many tasks, grows. Blank sits after addrow: content flows; rules continue. Stamp positioned: margin: 34px auto 0; width max-content; display none→block with animation. Center horizontally. Rotation -8deg. Empty message: margin: 26px 0 0 64px; Caveat 22px color #b6aa8e. Hmm empty message left-aligned like writing start — better than centered for notebook feel. "a fresh page — what comes first?" Now the tape: ```css .tape{position:absolute; top:-13px; left:50%; width:96px; height:26px; transform:translateX(-50%) rotate(-2.5deg); background:rgba(226,204,158,.5); box-shadow:0 1px 2px rgba(60,40,10,.15), inset 0 0 6px rgba(255,255,255,.25); clip-path: polygon(2% 0, 98% 4%, 100% 92%, 3% 100%, 0 60%); backdrop-filter: saturate(1.1); } ``` Tape over paper top edge — z-index above sheet bg but below content? place before content, z 3; masthead below tape? Tape at top center overlapping masthead's top area (masthead starts 34px down, tape 26px height -13 → extends to 13px inside). Over-line at top might collide visually — over-line at y≈34.. tape ends y=13. OK. Also small: sheet::before top highlight? skip. Desk vignette: body background: radial-gradient(120% 90% at 50% 12%, #2f2820 0%, #241e16 45%, #191510 100%) fixed; plus noise overlay via body::before fixed inset 0 with noise image opacity? Noise on body background-image with the radial both: multiple backgrounds. Add subtle. Entrance animation sheet: @keyframes sheetIn { from{opacity:0; transform:translateY(14px) rotate(-.5deg)} to{opacity:1; transform:none} } .sheet{animation: sheetIn .8s cubic-bezier(.2,.7,.2,1) both}. Row writing-in: @keyframes inkIn { from {opacity:0; transform: translateY(-6px)} } .task.adding{animation: inkIn .4s ease-out both} remove class after. Collapse removing: .task{transition: none} — implement JS: ```js function collapse(row, cb){ row.style.overflow='hidden'; row.style.height='52px'; requestAnimationFrame(()=>{ row.style.transition='height .3s ease, opacity .3s ease'; row.style.height='0px'; row.style.opacity='0'; setTimeout(cb,300); }); } ``` Note row height must be explicitly set (auto→52→0). Also inner elements could fade: row opacity handles. But rows have align-items flex-end children; height 0 fine with overflow hidden. Filter hidden class: .task.off{display:none}. Removing display none vs collapse conflict fine. Drag styles: .task.dragging{opacity:.4}. drop target insertion: I'll implement simply: on dragover over a row (not dragged), compare midY: if e.clientY < mid → insertBefore dragged before row else after. Live DOM moves. dragend → sync order. Guard dragstart only if handle initiated: set row._draggable via handle pointerdown: ```js handle.addEventListener('pointerdown',()=>row.draggable=true); row.addEventListener('dragstart',e=>{ if(!row.draggable){e.preventDefault();return;} ... }); window pointerup → row.draggable=false (all rows). ``` Also set e.dataTransfer.setData('text/plain', id); effectAllowed move. dragover on list (delegate): e.preventDefault(); const dragged=list.querySelector('.dragging'); if(!dragged) return; target = e.target.closest('.task'); if target && target!==dragged: mid=rect.top+rect.height/2; if e.clientY<mid list.insertBefore(dragged,target) else list.insertBefore(dragged, target.nextSibling). Rows 52px so simple. dragend: dragged.classList.remove('dragging'); row.draggable=false; syncOrderFromDOM(); syncOrder: ids in DOM order → tasks.sort by index map; save; renumber(); no full render needed. Renumber: document.querySelectorAll('.num')... but hidden rows still have numbers = array index+1; DOM order equals array order after sync. Just iterate list rows: i+1. Filter: hide .task per state. Numbers remain ledger positions (array order) — consistent since DOM order = array order. Now toggle: ```js function setDone(row, task, val){ task.done=val; save(); clearTimeout(row._t); const apply=()=>{ row.classList.toggle('done', val); row.setAttribute(...) }; if(val){ row._t=setTimeout(apply, 90); } // slight delay feels like ink else apply(); refreshMeta(); } ``` Delay small. Also strike width set at creation; if text edited recompute. Check button click handler: setDone(row,task,!task.done). Delete: ```js function removeTask(id){ const row=rowById(id); row.classList.add('scrib'); // gray scribble draws setTimeout(()=>{ collapse(row, ()=>{ row.remove(); tasks=tasks.filter(...); save(); renumber(); refreshMeta(); }); }, 230); } ``` .scrib CSS: .task.scrib .strike path{ stroke-dashoffset:0; transition-duration:.22s; stroke:#9a8f7c } .task.scrib .text{opacity:.5; transition:.2s} but if row already .done strike visible red → scrib overrides stroke gray, offset already 0. If not done, offset 1→0 draw gray. Good. Also disable pointer events during removal. Erase finished: done rows staggered removeTask. Guard reentrancy with flag. refreshMeta(): tally text, erase visibility, blank/stamp/empty visibility, also filters count? no. refreshBlank(): ```js emptyMsg.hidden = tasks.length>0; stamp.classList.toggle('show', tasks.length>0 && tasks.every(t=>t.done)); ``` stamp .show { display:block; animation stampIn .5s cubic-bezier(.2,1.4,.3,1) both } — re-trigger when toggled: since display none→block restarts animation. Also maybe re-stamp each time all done: fine. Edge: filter=all & stamp — stamp in blank regardless of filter, ok. Initial load stagger: after building rows, for done ones schedule .done. Also refreshMeta at end. Also their strike path d set at creation; stroke transitions from offset1→0 when class added. Text color transition too. Ring stroke to red. Now the check svg per row built via template string with innerHTML — easier. Row template: ```js function buildRow(task){ const li=document.createElement('li'); li.className='task'; li.dataset.id=task.id; li.innerHTML=` <span class="gutter"><span class="num"></span> <button class="handle" type="button" aria-label="drag to reorder">${ICONS.grip}</button> </span> <button class="check" type="button" aria-pressed="${task.done}"> <svg viewBox="0 0 24 24" aria-hidden="true"> <path class="ring" d="${RING}"/> <path class="tick" pathLength="1" d="${TICK}"/> </svg> </button> <span class="body"><span class="text"></span></span> <button class="del" type="button" aria-label="delete task">${ICONS.x}</button>`; li.querySelector('.text').textContent=task.text; const svg=... append strike into .body jitter: li.querySelector('.text').style.transform=`rotate(${(Math.random()*1-.5).toFixed(2)}deg)`; check rotate small. listeners... } ``` .gutter position absolute left0 top0 bottom0 width 46px; .num absolute right:14px bottom:9px Fraunces 12.5px color #b9507?? red-brown #b4552f? Let me pick #b0552f-ish red-brown: color: rgba(154,74,44,.85). handle absolute right:10px bottom:9px opacity 0. Task padding-left 64px padding-right 40px (room for del). del absolute right:6px bottom:10px. Wait .del absolute inside .task (position relative). Good, remove from flex. .body flex:1 align-self flex-end position relative margin-bottom 7px? Text baseline: .text{ display:inline-block; font: 500 23px/1.15 Caveat; padding-bottom:0; } Let me set row: align-items flex-end; .body margin-bottom 6px; text inside; strike svg bottom -2px relative to body? Let me define .body{position:relative; margin:0 0 6px;} .strike{position:absolute; left:-5px; bottom:-3px; ...} strike height 16 → covers from body bottom -3 up 16px: body height ≈ 26px text; strike crosses lower-middle. Eh, I'll position bottom:0 and height 16: overlapping baseline region. Eyeball: bottom:1px. Fine-tune mentally: text line-height 26px, baseline ~ bottom 6px area (padding-bottom of row content?). Since body bottom margin 6 above rule, glyphs sit just above rule. x-height of Caveat ~ middle. Strike at bottom 4px crosses slightly low — handwritten strikes often cross low-mid. bottom:5px. Good enough; slight variation is character. Tick & ring drawn states handled by .task.done selectors. Check button alignment: margin: 0 14px 7px 0; width 25 height 25. align-self flex-end via row align-items flex-end default. Addrow plus: absolute left:0 bottom:6px width:46px text-align:right padding-right:14px font Caveat 24px color red cursor pointer background none border none. Hover: scale 1.15 transition. Now, foot hint may wrap on mobile: allow flex-wrap. Also add `::selection{ background:rgba(188,75,50,.25) }`. Focus-visible outlines: custom — outline: 1.5px dashed rgba(188,75,50,.6) offset 3px. Accessibility plus fits pencil aesthetic. Reduced motion: @media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce){ *{animation-duration:.01ms !important; transition-duration:.01ms !important} }. Let me write scribble with fixed h=16 viewBox; y around 8: ```js function scribble(w){ const j=(m=1.6)=>(Math.random()*2-1)*m; const y=8; const a=y+j(), b=y+j(), c=y+j(), d=y+j(), e=y+j(); return `M1.5 ${a} C ${w*.22} ${b}, ${w*.4} ${c}, ${w*.58} ${y+(a-y)*.6} S ${w*.88} ${d}, ${w-1.5} ${e}`; } ``` OK. Icon svgs: ```js const ICONS={ grip:`<svg viewBox="0 0 10 16" width="10" height="16"><g fill="currentColor"><circle cx="2" cy="2.5" r="1.3"/><circle cx="8" cy="2.5" r="1.3"/><circle cx="2" cy="8" r="1.3"/><circle cx="8" cy="8" r="1.3"/><circle cx="2" cy="13.5" r="1.3"/><circle cx="8" cy="13.5" r="1.3"/></g></svg>`, x:`<svg viewBox="0 0 16 16" width="15" height="15"><path d="M3.2 3.4 L12.9 12.8 M12.7 3.1 L3.4 12.9" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="1.7" stroke-linecap="round" fill="none"/></svg>` }; ``` RING & TICK paths constants. Favicon: link rel="icon" data:image/svg+xml — circle with tick red on paper color. Now assemble everything. Also handle: form submit → add. Trim; if empty do a little shake of input? Subtle: input placeholder already; just ignore, maybe tiny nudge animation .shake keyframes translateX ±3. Add. Input font Caveat 24px — but typed text should look written: yes Caveat. After add: input.value=''; keep focus. New task not done. Row inserted before form inside list? Form is sibling after list — insert into list before end. list.appendChild(row). Then refreshMeta, renumber (new row needs number set — renumber covers all). renumber(): iterate list.querySelectorAll('.task') in order set num text i+1. Since DOM order = array order invariant. Let me double check rule alignment math. .ruled children: ol.tasks (margin 0 padding 0), form.addrow, div.blank. Rows 52px each exact. addrow height 52. Gradient: lines drawn at each 52 boundary starting 51–52px. So line at bottom of each row — under text. blank has its own height (min 120) continuing pattern. To guarantee alignment, ensure no margins between children: set ol, form, blank margin:0. Also li margin 0. Fonts vertical metrics don't affect heights (fixed heights). li box-sizing border-box; padding-left etc inside 52px. Good. .last line after addrow also from gradient at its bottom, and blank continues. One more: with rows filtered (display none), gradient stays continuous since remaining rows pack — heights still 52 multiples. Good. Also when strike svg overflows body horizontally slightly (left:-5), row overflow visible fine. Sheet max-height with many tasks: page scrolls naturally. Fine. Now writing final HTML. Also include noscript? Unnecessary. Double-check no cheap violations: warm palette (cream/ink/red-pencil), no blue/purple, no gradients except desk vignette + tape (physical scene lighting; subtle), no emoji, icons are inline SVG, fonts Fraunces+Caveat (distinctive), no alert(), everything wired, localStorage persistence, drag/edit/filters all functional. Signature: hand-drawn strike animations + ruled ledger + stamp payoff. One concern: repeating-linear-gradient for rules — it's a functional pattern (notebook ruling), not decorative gradient. Fine. Let me write the code now, complete and careful. Also edit input styling: .editInput { font:500 23px/1.15 Caveat; color:var(--ink); background:transparent; border:0; border-bottom:1px dashed rgba(188,75,50,.5); outline:none; width:100%; padding:0 0 2px; } replace .text (hide text span while editing). Implement: ```js function startEdit(row, task){ if(row.querySelector('.editInput')) return; const textEl=row.querySelector('.text'); const inp=document.createElement('input'); inp.className='editInput'; inp.value=task.text; inp.setAttribute('aria-label','edit task'); textEl.style.visibility='hidden'; textEl.after(inp); inp.focus(); inp.select(); let done=false; const commit=ok=>{ if(done)return; done=true; const v=inp.value.trim(); inp.remove(); textEl.style.visibility=''; if(!ok || !v){ if(!v && ok){ removeTask(task.id); } return; } if(v!==task.text){ task.text=v; save(); textEl.textContent=v; if(task.done) setStrike(row); } }; inp.addEventListener('keydown',e=>{ if(e.key==='Enter')commit(true); else if(e.key==='Escape')commit(false); }); inp.addEventListener('blur',()=>commit(true)); } ``` Note removeTask inside commit while editing-empty → fine. Blur commit triggers after Escape commit(done=true) guard ok. Toggle handler should ignore while editing? fine. Also clicking check when row .scrib — guard removal flag row._removing. Write dragstart data: e.dataTransfer.setData('text/plain', task.id); e.dataTransfer.effectAllowed='move'; add class. Also add dragover on li to allow? Delegated on list enough (event bubbles from target; e.target.closest('.task')). But drop must be allowed on list: dragover preventDefault on list — children dragover events bubble to list; fine. Also touch devices: HTML5 drag doesn't work on touch — acceptable; reorder unavailable on touch (handle hidden? keep hidden on hover:none? Then touch users lose reorder but everything else works). @media (hover:none){.handle{display:none}}. Media query small screens: sheet padding 24px 20px; gutter width smaller (34px), padding-left 52px; red line left 38px; mast h1 smaller; tally maybe below. Use a @media (max-width:560px) adjustments. To avoid complexity, set variables: --pad-x, --gutter etc. I'll write with CSS vars: ```css .sheet{ --padx:46px; --gutw:46px; --bodyx:66px; } @media(max-width:560px){ .sheet{--padx:20px;--gutw:34px;--bodyx:50px} .gutter{width:var(--gutw)} .num{right:8px} .task,.addrow{padding-left:var(--bodyx)} .ruled::before{left:calc(var(--gutw) - 6px)} .del{right:2px} } ``` Default: .ruled::before left: 40px; gutter width 46; num right 12; task padding-left 66. Mobile: line at 28, num right 6, body 50. Ok. del button overlapping text on narrow — body padding-right? .body{padding-right:26px} to give del space; strike anchored to body left only (text width measured) fine. Long text ellipsis with padding-right — .text{max-width:100%; overflow:hidden; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:nowrap; display:block? inline-block with max-width}. Use display:inline-block; max-width:100%. body width available = row width - paddings - check width. ok. Stamp text: "page complete". Also maybe include small line "well done" under? Keep single. Now let me also think tally position: .mast-row{display:flex; align-items:flex-end; justify-content:space-between; gap:16px}. h1 line-height .9. tally padding-bottom 6px. Date line: display flex gap 10px; small caps via font-variant? Fraunces small caps not real; use uppercase 10.5px ls .22em. "№" character renders fine. Overline & maybe a tiny right element on top row: left "A SMALL LEDGER", right "EST. TODAY" haha. Keep single left; but asymmetry fine — or right side: current time? gimmicky. Keep left only. Hmm masthead over-row: I'll put left "A SMALL LEDGER" and right the tally? No, tally beside h1 better. Keep. Add also subtle ruled-area fade at top? no. Also number of visible lines min: .blank{min-height:156px} and .ruled min-height 470px — with blank+addrow, empty page: list 0 + addrow 52 + blank 156 = 208 < 470 → ruled stretches, blank grows? .ruled min-height with flex? Make .ruled display:flex; flex-direction:column; .blank{flex:1; min-height:150px}. Then rules fill whole ruled area regardless. list flex none. Empty message inside blank top-left with padding: margin:20px 0 0 var(--bodyx). Stamp centered: position absolute left 50% top 46px translateX(-50%). Blank position relative. Stamp markup inside blank. OK. Also when only done tasks & filter=open: list empty → blank shows stamp (tasks exist) but no empty msg; ruled lines with stamp floating — fine. Time to write final code. I'll be meticulous with syntax. Also remember: after initial staggered .done application, refreshMeta called; but stamp animation triggers on load when all done — only if user's saved state is all-done; fine, nice re-entry moment. Initial stagger: collect done rows in order i*130+400ms. Let me also set checkbox title tooltips? aria-labels enough. Write out: ```html <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <title>Today’s Page — a small ledger

I'll write it and then JS. Also 'plus' hover transform; plus uses Caveat so "+" looks handwritten. Filters click handler: set class on, store current; applyFilter(). Let me also handle: tasks row click on gutter? no. Check contrast: tally red on cream fine. Edge case: erase while filter=done — rows collapse then blank shows message (tasks empty) or stamp if none? all removed → tasks empty → emptyMsg shows. good. removal when row currently .off (filtered out) — removeTask fine. Erase stagger: rows = tasks.filter(done) → for each index setTimeout(i*90). Set _removing on rows to block double toggles. Also block removeTask if row._removing. save(): localStorage.setItem(KEY, JSON.stringify({tasks, seeded:true})). load(): try parse; tasks = data.tasks||[]; if !data → seed. Seed: ```js [ {text:'Reply to Anna’s letter', done:true}, {text:'Book the dentist, finally', done:false}, {text:'Water the ferns on the sill', done:false}, {text:'Sketch three ideas for the studio wall', done:false}, {text:'Return library books — due soon', done:false} ] ``` One done shows strike immediately. Good. ids: uid()=Date.now().toString(36)+Math.random().toString(36).slice(2,7). Now full JS carefully. ```js const NS='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'; const KEY='small-ledger-todo-v1'; const $=s=>document.querySelector(s); const list=$('#list'), addForm=$('#addForm'), addInput=$('#addInput'), tallyEl=$('#tally'), emptyMsg=$('#emptyMsg'), stamp=$('#stamp'), eraseBtn=$('#erase'), filtersEl=$('#filters'); const WORDS=['zero','one','two','three','four','five','six','seven','eight','nine','ten','eleven','twelve','thirteen','fourteen','fifteen','sixteen']; const words=n=>n'+ICONS.grip+''+ ''+ ''+ ''; li.querySelector('.text').textContent=task.text; // strike const svg=document.createElementNS(NS,'svg'); svg.setAttribute('class','strike'); const p=document.createElementNS(NS,'path'); p.setAttribute('pathLength','1'); svg.appendChild(p); li.querySelector('.body').appendChild(svg); // hand jitter const r=()=> (Math.random()*1-.5).toFixed(2); li.querySelector('.text').style.rotate=r()+'deg'; li.querySelector('.check').style.rotate=(Math.random()*8-4).toFixed(1)+'deg'; // events li.querySelector('.check').addEventListener('click',()=>{ if(li._removing)return; setDone(li, task, !task.done); }); li.querySelector('.del').addEventListener('click',()=>removeTask(task.id)); li.querySelector('.text').addEventListener('dblclick',()=>startEdit(li,task)); const handle=li.querySelector('.handle'); handle.addEventListener('pointerdown',()=>{ li.draggable=true; }); li.addEventListener('dragstart',e=>{ if(!li.draggable){ e.preventDefault(); return; } li.classList.add('dragging'); e.dataTransfer.effectAllowed='move'; try{e.dataTransfer.setData('text/plain',task.id);}catch(_){} }); li.addEventListener('dragend',()=>{ li.classList.remove('dragging'); li.draggable=false; syncFromDOM(); }); return li; } ``` Wait initial .done class should NOT be applied at build (to allow staggered draw). So build without done class; stagger applies. But then build for user-added done? tasks only become done via toggle (class applied then). Initial load: build all without class, schedule for done ones. OK adjust: className='task'. setDone: ```js function setDone(li, task, val){ task.done=val; save(); clearTimeout(li._t); const apply=()=>{ li.classList.toggle('done', val); li.querySelector('.check').setAttribute('aria-pressed', val); }; if(val) li._t=setTimeout(apply, 80); else apply(); refreshMeta(); } ``` removeTask: ```js function removeTask(id){ const li=rowById(id); if(!li||li._removing) return; li._removing=true; li.style.pointerEvents='none'; li.classList.add('scrib'); setTimeout(()=>{ li.style.overflow='hidden'; li.style.height=li.offsetHeight+'px'; requestAnimationFrame(()=>{ li.style.transition='height .3s cubic-bezier(.5,0,.6,1), opacity .3s ease'; li.style.height='0px'; li.style.opacity='0'; setTimeout(()=>{ li.remove(); tasks=tasks.filter(t=>t.id!==id); save(); renumber(); refreshMeta(); },310); }); }, 240); } ``` Note .task has fixed height 52 via CSS; setting explicit then 0 with transition — height transition from 52px→0 works. Also margin? none. But `.task` display flex with height 0 & overflow hidden fine. Also li has class off (filtered) — if hidden display none, offsetHeight 0 → collapse no-op; just remove instantly then: if getComputedStyle display none → skip animation: ```js const hidden=li.classList.contains('off'); if(hidden){ li.remove(); tasks=... ; ...} ``` Handle in code. renumber(): rows=list.querySelectorAll('.task'); rows.forEach((r,i)=> r.querySelector('.num').textContent=i+1); refreshMeta(): ```js function refreshMeta(){ const total=tasks.length, open=tasks.filter(t=>!t.done).length, done=total-open; tallyEl.textContent = !total ? 'an empty page' : !open ? (done===1?'all done — one crossed off':'all crossed off') : words(open)+' to go'+(done?', '+words(done)+' done':''); eraseBtn.classList.toggle('hidden', done===0); emptyMsg.classList.toggle('hidden', total>0); const allDone= total>0 && open===0; stamp.classList.toggle('show', allDone); } ``` If stamp already shown & refreshMeta called repeatedly (e.g., toggling text edits), animation retriggers on class toggle? classList.toggle with same value doesn't reset animation. Fine. Also tally micro-animation on change: add .bump class with keyframe (small translateY). Implement: tallyEl.animate? Use classList.remove/void offsetWidth/add 'bump'. Add tiny keyframe bump: {from{transform:rotate(-1.5deg) translateY(3px);opacity:.4}} .2s. Combine with base rotate(-1.6deg). I'll do Web Animations: tallyEl.animate([{opacity:.3, transform:'rotate(-1.6deg) translateY(4px)'},{opacity:1, transform:'rotate(-1.6deg) translateY(0)'}],{duration:260,easing:'ease-out'}). Only when text changed. Keep simple: track prev string. applyFilter(): ```js function applyFilter(){ list.querySelectorAll('.task').forEach(li=>{ const t=tasks.find(x=>x.id===li.dataset.id); const show= filter==='all' || (filter==='open' ? !t.done : t.done); li.classList.toggle('off', !show); }); } ``` Filters click: delegate; set filter, classes. addForm submit: ```js addForm.addEventListener('submit',e=>{ e.preventDefault(); const v=addInput.value.trim(); if(!v){ nudge(); return; } const task={id:uid(), text:v, done:false}; tasks.push(task); save(); const li=buildRow(task); li.classList.add('adding'); list.appendChild(li); renumber(); refreshMeta(); addInput.value=''; addInput.focus(); setTimeout(()=>li.classList.remove('adding'), 450); }); function nudge(){ addInput.animate([{transform:'translateX(0)'},{transform:'translateX(-4px)'},{transform:'translateX(3px)'},{transform:'translateX(0)'}],{duration:220,easing:'ease-out'}); } ``` syncFromDOM(): ```js function syncFromDOM(){ const order=[...list.querySelectorAll('.task')].map(li=>li.dataset.id); tasks.sort((a,b)=>order.indexOf(a.id)-order.indexOf(b.id)); save(); renumber(); } ``` list dragover: ```js list.addEventListener('dragover',e=>{ const dragged=list.querySelector('.dragging'); if(!dragged) return; e.preventDefault(); const target=e.target.closest('.task'); if(!target||target===dragged) return; const r=target.getBoundingClientRect(); if(e.clientY < r.top + r.height/2) list.insertBefore(dragged,target); else list.insertBefore(dragged, target.nextSibling); }); ``` Note dragged may be 'off'? handles hidden when filtered, can't start. ok. Also list 'drop' preventDefault to avoid navigation: add list.addEventListener('drop',e=>e.preventDefault()). Keyboard '/': ```js document.addEventListener('keydown',e=>{ if(e.key==='/' && !/^(INPUT|TEXTAREA)$/.test(document.activeElement.tagName)){ e.preventDefault(); addInput.focus(); } }); ``` Erase: ```js let erasing=false; eraseBtn.addEventListener('click',()=>{ if(erasing) return; const dones=tasks.filter(t=>t.done); if(!dones.length) return; erasing=true; dones.forEach((t,i)=> setTimeout(()=>{ removeTask(t.id); if(i===dones.length-1) setTimeout(()=>erasing=false, 400); }, i*100)); }); ``` Edit: as planned. Also on edit commit when task.done → setStrike(row) recompute (since width changed). And also if text changed, save. Resize: ```js let rz; window.addEventListener('resize',()=>{ clearTimeout(rz); rz=setTimeout(()=>{ tasks.forEach(t=>{ if(t.done){ const li=rowById(t.id); if(li && li.classList.contains('done')) setStrike(li); } }); },150); }); ``` Masthead fill: ```js (function mast(){ const d=new Date(); const days=['Sunday','Monday','Tuesday','Wednesday','Thursday','Friday','Saturday']; const months=['January',...]; $('#dayName').textContent=days[d.getDay()]; const doy=Math.floor((d - new Date(d.getFullYear(),0,0))/864e5); $('#dateLine').textContent=d.getDate()+' '+months[d.getMonth()]+' '+d.getFullYear()+' · № '+doy; })(); ``` Init: ```js load(); const frag=document.createDocumentFragment(); tasks.forEach(t=>frag.appendChild(buildRow(t))); list.appendChild(frag); renumber(); // staggered ink-in for pre-done rows let di=0; tasks.forEach(t=>{ if(t.done){ const li=rowById(t.id); li._t=setTimeout(()=>{ li.classList.add('done'); li.querySelector('.check').setAttribute('aria-pressed','true'); }, 420+di*160); di++; } }); refreshMeta(); ``` rowById: ```js const rowById=id=>list.querySelector('.task[data-id="'+id+'"]'); ``` id safe chars (alnum) fine. refreshMeta bump: ```js let lastTally=''; ... in refreshMeta: const txt=...; if(txt!==lastTally){ lastTally=txt; tallyEl.textContent=txt; tallyEl.animate(...,{duration:280,easing:'cubic-bezier(.2,.7,.3,1)'}); } ``` Note WAAPI on element with CSS rotate: transform in keyframes overrides? CSS uses `rotate` property (individual transform) — I set .tally{rotate:-1.6deg} via CSS `rotate:` property, then animate `transform` translate only — they compose. Nice: use individual `rotate` property for jitter too (style.rotate). Good, modern browsers support. So .text jitter uses style.rotate='0.32deg' — CSS `rotate` property on span works. For strike svg no jitter. Now CSS complete writing: ```css *{box-sizing:border-box; margin:0; padding:0} html,body{min-height:100%} body{ background:#1d1812 radial-gradient(120% 100% at 50% 8%, #322a20 0%, #241e15 48%, #16110c 100%) fixed; font-family:'Fraunces', Georgia, serif; color:var(--ink); display:grid; place-items:center; padding:56px 18px 72px; -webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased; } :root{ --paper:#f7f1e0; --ink:#37312a; --ink-soft:#7a705d; --faint:#b9ad92; --rule:#dfd2b1; --red:#bc4b32; --pencildark:#8d8172; } ``` Hmm body background shorthand with fixed attachment: `background:#1d1812 radial-gradient(...) fixed` — attachment applies to all layers; fine. Noise on body: add pseudo overlay: ```css body::before{content:''; position:fixed; inset:0; pointer-events:none; opacity:.5; background-image:url("data:image/svg+xml,...noise..."); mix-blend? none} ``` noise rect opacity .05 built-in; body::before opacity 1. fine. Sheet: ```css .sheet{ position:relative; width:min(660px,100%); background:var(--paper); padding:30px var(--padx,46px) 16px; box-shadow:0 1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.35) inset, 0 30px 70px rgba(0,0,0,.5), 0 8px 22px rgba(0,0,0,.35); animation:sheetIn .8s cubic-bezier(.16,.8,.24,1) both; } .sheet::after{ /* paper grain */ content:''; position:absolute; inset:0; pointer-events:none; background-image:url("data:image/svg+xml,..."); opacity:.6; } ``` Wait grain over content with pointer-events none ok; opacity of noise rect .05 * .6 subtle. But it also sits above text — with .05 alpha fine. Also give sheet slight edge: border:1px solid rgba(120,100,60,.12)? subtle. @keyframes sheetIn{from{opacity:0; transform:translateY(16px) rotate(-.5deg)} to{opacity:1; transform:none}} Tape: ```css .tape{position:absolute; I set padding:30px var(--padx,46px) 16px then override simpler directly. Use direct overrides as above (drop var). Simplify: base padding:30px 46px 16px; mobile override padding:24px 20px 14px. The `.sheet::after` grain covering tape? tape z-index 4 > after? .sheet::after default stacking: pseudo with no z-index paints above later siblings? Positioned ::after inset 0 with default z auto — it stacks per DOM order: ::after is last child → above content but tape has z-index 4 → tape above grain. Good; tape should look above paper grain anyway. But grain above interactive elements with pointer-events none ok. Check: .ruled::before red line under rows? .ruled::before absolute; rows are static positioned? .task position relative (stacking) — relative elements paint above non-positioned? ::before is positioned absolute (z auto) — order: positioned elements paint above non-positioned, but both positioned → DOM/tree order: ::before is first child → below rows. rows have transparent backgrounds → line visible through. Good. However addrow::after red line above rows similarly fine. Strike svg: inside .body (relative) absolute; ok above text. One more consideration: the `.ruled` gradient alignment — .ruled has no padding; first child .tasks margin 0 (reset *). rows start at top. The masthead's drule margin etc separate. Good. But wait — between masthead and ruled, I removed gap; rules should start right below double rule with some breathing: .ruled{margin-top:14px}? That's fine — gradient starts at ruled top, first rule at 51.5. Rows align. Good. The addrow is always visible (last ruled line always the "write here" line) — nice. min-height 468 = 9 lines. blank flex:1 fills remainder. Also body min-height for scroll: fine. Potential issue: `.check` inline style rotate set via style.rotate works. Also check svg paths: RING as single open path (not closed) — stroke round, looks hand-drawn. Good. Tick pathLength=1 with dasharray 1 — Safari supports pathLength on path with CSS dasharray units? Generally yes modern. Fallback risk low. Strike path pathLength=1 set via setAttribute — do at creation. Yes did. One catch: transition on stroke-dashoffset with pathLength normalized — good. setStrike measures text width — after fonts load, widths change! Fraunces/Caveat load async → strikes for seeded done rows drawn before font load would be mis-measured (draw later anyway at 420ms+ — fonts likely loaded by then, but not guaranteed). Use document.fonts.ready.then(init) to start everything after fonts load! Great: wrap init in fonts.ready with a timeout fallback. ```js const start=()=>{ ...build, stagger... }; if(document.fonts && document.fonts.ready){ document.fonts.ready.then(start); setTimeout(()=>{ if(!started) start(); }, 1500);} else start(); ``` Guard started flag. Also mast text is Fraunces — updating before fonts fine (reflows automatically). Also resize handler recompute after fonts too — covered. Edit input: uses Caveat — loaded. I think there's one more subtlety: .text rotate jitter also rotates strike? strike is sibling in .body — not rotated. Text rotated ±0.5deg over straight strike: looks hand-done, fine. Double-check removeTask collapse: rows have align-items:flex-end and fixed height; setting inline height then transitioning to 0: children (buttons bottom-aligned) will squash? overflow hidden + opacity fade masks it; also add transition to child positions? The 300ms with fade is enough. But careful: li.style.height='52px' then rAF then set 0 — transitions defined inline only at the moment of change (transition property added in same rAF as target value) — browsers may skip transition if property & transition set same frame? We set height 52 (no transition yet) → force rAF → then set transition+height 0. rAF boundary gives a frame? rAF callback runs before paint; setting transition & value in same callback after previous paint with height 52 → transition should run (start value from last computed 52). It works generally. Add double rAF for safety. Also removeTask from list but tasks.filter after animation — during the 550ms, data still contains task; if refreshMeta triggered meanwhile counts fine. Multiple rapid deletes fine. However: renumber() only after removal — numbers stale during animation (deleted row keeps number, next rows unchanged) — acceptable, or renumber immediately at start? Numbers should keep during collapse; after remove renumber shifts — fine. Edge: erase staggered — each removeTask filters after its own delay; ok. Toggle during erasing on row being removed — pointerEvents none set. Now write everything as final answer. Also small aria-live on tally? add aria-live="polite" to tally & list maybe. Light touch: tally aria-live polite. Also the `.plus` content '+' — I could craft small svg plus but Caveat '+' looks handwritten — good. Explanations after code: brief. Also mention features. Let me finalize the noise data URI: `data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' width='160' height='160'%3E%3Cfilter id='n'%3E%3CfeTurbulence type='fractalNoise' baseFrequency='0.85' numOctaves='2' stitchTiles='stitch'/%3E%3CfeColorMatrix type='saturate' values='0'/%3E%3C/filter%3E%3Crect width='160' height='160' filter='url(%23n)' opacity='0.05'/%3E%3C/svg%3E` Use same for body::before (maybe opacity .8). h1 font-weight: Fraunces variable — font-weight:460 ok; also font "SOFT" axis default. Add font-variation-settings:"opsz" 40? CSS font-optical-sizing auto default. fine. Let me also add letter spacing to tally none. Potential CSS var --padx unused; remove. Also ensure `.task` z-index above ruled::before given both positioned: .task relative → paints in order; ::before is generated first child of .ruled → earlier than .tasks → rows above. addrow::after left uses 66px matching padding. For filter 'done' label "crossed off". Also stamp re-show when erase all → empty page, msg shows. ok. One more polish: on toggle to done, also animate tally? refreshMeta handles bump when changed. Also when adding first task, emptyMsg hides — with display none instantly; fine. Also `.check` cursor pointer; done rows check hover: allow uncheck. yes. Also prevent text selection on dblclick jitter etc: .text user-select? dblclick selects — after edit input inserted, selection irrelevant. Keep selectable (feat). Now, is '/' shortcut conflicting when typing in edit input? activeElement check handles. Write final answer: code block with full HTML then explanation (brief). Language: English. Let me write out the complete file mentally checking syntax as I go. Also: h1 italic Fraunces — set font-style italic. Date line uses '·' and '№' characters — fine. Potential issue: `input` font inherits? set explicit. Add `title` attr on handle. Ensure `.task.dragging` background paper so it doesn't look transparent over lines: background:var(--paper); box-shadow:0 10px 20px rgba(40,25,5,.18); opacity .95? Use opacity .9 + bg. But background covers rule under it (gradient behind) — row bg hides the line segment — during drag acceptable (it's "lifted off" the lines — actually great effect: lifted page piece). Also while dragging, set z-index? not needed. Final check on drag: draggable=true set on pointerdown of handle; but pointerdown then drag: HTML5 drag starts on mousedown move — draggable attr set on pointerdown before drag start — works (common pattern). Also click on handle shouldn't do anything. Set `e.dataTransfer.setDragImage`? default row snapshot fine. Also add dragover class on target? skip. Compose final HTML now. One more: the top overline says "a small ledger · things to do" — nice. Title of page: "Today's Page — a small ledger". Also add subtle sheet left edge? no. Let me make sure the strike draws for done seeds: build → setStrike measures text width. Since list in DOM and fonts ready (start after fonts.ready), measurement valid. document.fonts.ready resolves even before fonts requested sometimes — with link stylesheet, fonts load lazily when used; mast uses Fraunces (used in h1) so loads; Caveat used in tally (empty until refreshMeta — tally has text after start). To force load both faces: after DOM, call document.fonts.load("500 23px Caveat") and document.fonts.load("italic 460 40px Fraunces")? Simpler: rely on fonts.ready after elements rendered (h1 has placeholder '—'... it's Fraunces). Caveat placeholder? add hidden span with Caveat text "0" to force load: cargo? Use `document.fonts.load('500 23px Caveat')` explicit — returns promise. Combine: Promise.all([loads, fonts.ready]).then(start) with timeout fallback. I'll do: ```js let started=false; function start(){ if(started)return; started=true; buildAll(); } if(document.fonts){ Promise.all([ document.fonts.load('500 23px Caveat'), document.fonts.load('italic 460 40px Fraunces') ]).then(()=>document.fonts.ready).then(start).catch(start); setTimeout(start,1600); }else start(); ``` Also masthead fill before start (fonts swap fine). Edge: refreshMeta called in start only; tally empty until then — brief blank; acceptable (or set '…'). ok. Write it all now. Also `list.addEventListener('drop', e=>{e.preventDefault();})`. Also after dragend, if filter!=='all'? can't happen. Also guard dragover when dragged exists but has off class — impossible. Counting lines fine. Compose answer: full HTML code block + short explanation of concept & features. Keep explanation concise. Here's a todo app built as a hand-written daily ledger — tasks sit on real ruled notebook lines, and completing one draws a red pencil strike through the ink: ```html Today’s Page — a small ledger

a small ledger · things to do

—

a fresh page — what comes first?

page complete

``` **The concept:** a single sheet of paper taped to a dark desk — your day as a written ledger, not a form. Everything is built around that one idea: - **Ruled lines that go all the way down.** Tasks, the input line, and the empty space below all sit on the same 52px notebook ruling, with a red margin line and ledger-style row numbers. Blank space still looks like a real page. - **The signature moment:** completing a task draws a wobbly red pencil strike across the ink (a freshly generated SVG path animating via `stroke-dashoffset`), while a hand-drawn circle draws its tick. On load, previously-finished entries strike themselves in one after another, like ink drying. - **A payoff:** clear the last open task and a rotated "PAGE COMPLETE" stamp thuds onto the blank lines. - **Full app behavior:** add (Enter or the red `+`), double-click to edit inline, delete (gray scribble, then the line collapses), drag to reorder via the grip, filters (*everything / still open / crossed off*), "erase finished" with a staggered cascade, press `/` to jump to the writing line, and `localStorage` persistence. - **Craft details:** Fraunces for the masthead (day name, date, day-of-year "№"), Caveat for the handwriting, per-row micro-rotations so the ink sits unevenly, a red pencil line that draws itself under the input when you focus it, and the tally written out in words ("three to go, one done").
