The user wants a 3D rose in Three.js. Since this will be rendered in an iframe in a web browser, I need to provide complete HTML with all script/link tags included. I'll create a beautiful 3D rose using Three.js. Let me think about how to build a rose procedurally: 1. **Petals**: Rose petals can be created using parametric surfaces. A common approach is to use a petal shape that curves outward. I can create petals using a parametric geometry where each petal is a curved surface. 2. **Stem**: A cylinder or a tube geometry, green colored. 3. **Leaves**: Similar to petals but flatter and green. A nice mathematical approach for rose petals: - Use a parametric function that creates a petal shape - Arrange petals in layers around the center, with inner petals more closed and outer petals more open - Rotate each petal by a golden angle for natural arrangement Let me design the petal parametric surface: ```javascript function petalGeometry(u, v, openness, size) { // u: 0 to 1 across the petal width // v: 0 to 1 along the petal length } ``` A good petal shape: - Start narrow at base, widen toward middle, round at top - Curve outward based on "openness" parameter - Slight cup shape Here's a classic approach for a procedural rose: ```javascript function createPetal(length, width, curl, openAngle) { const segments = 20; const geometry = new THREE.BufferGeometry(); // build parametric surface } ``` Parametric petal: - Let v go from 0 (base) to 1 (tip) - Let u go from -1 to 1 (across width) - Width profile: sin(v * PI) gives 0 at base and tip, max in middle — but roses are wider near the top, so maybe use something like sin(v * PI * 0.85) or a custom profile - Curl: the petal curls around, curl amount increases toward tip - Radial position: base near center, tip pushed outward by openAngle Let me write the math: ```javascript function petalPoint(u, v, params) { const { size, curl, openness, ruffle } = params; // width profile - petal is narrow at base, wide at 60-70%, narrows slightly at tip const widthProfile = Math.sin(Math.pow(v, 0.7) * Math.PI) * (1 - 0.15 * v); const x = u * widthProfile * size * 0.5; // vertical rise and outward push const height = v * size * (1 - openness * 0.5); const outward = Math.pow(v, 1.5) * size * openness * 0.8; // curl: petal rolls back at the tip const curlAngle = v * curl + Math.pow(v, 3) * curl; // ruffle the edges const ruffleAmount = Math.sin(u * Math.PI * 3 + v * 5) * ruffle * v * v; // cup shape - edges curve up/in const cup = u * u * 0.3 * size * (1 - openness); ... } ``` Actually, let me think of a cleaner parametric approach. One well-known method: Each petal is a surface of revolution-ish shape. Think of the petal as wrapping around a cone/cylinder at the center. Alternative cleaner approach — model each petal in local coordinates then place it: Local petal coordinates: - Petal lies mostly vertical, curving outward at top - u ∈ [-1, 1] across, v ∈ [0, 1] from base to tip ```javascript function petalSurface(u, v, p) { // p: {size, curl, openness, ruffleFreq, ruffleAmp} // Width: narrow at base, broad, rounded tip const w = Math.sin(Math.PI * Math.pow(v, 0.65)) * p.size * 0.5; const x = u * w; // The petal length axis: rises then leans out const lean = p.openness * Math.pow(v, 2); // how much it leans outward const y = v * p.size - lean * p.size * 0.3; const z = lean * p.size * 0.9; // Cup: edges come forward (toward +z) giving concave look const cup = Math.pow(Math.abs(u), 1.5) * p.size * 0.35 * v * (1 - p.openness * 0.4); // Curl back at the tip (top edge rolls outward/back) const tipCurl = Math.pow(v, 3) * p.curl; // Edge ruffle const ruffle = Math.sin(u * Math.PI * p.ruffleFreq + v * 6) * p.ruffleAmp * Math.pow(v, 2); const zFinal = z - cup + ruffle + ...; } ``` Hmm, this is getting complicated. Let me simplify but keep it looking good. Actually, let me use a well-tested procedural rose approach. I'll define the petal as: ```javascript function makePetal(params) { const { size, curl, openness, ruffle } = params; const uSegs = 24, vSegs = 24; const positions = []; const indices = []; const uvs = []; for (let j = 0; j <= vSegs; j++) { const v = j / vSegs; for (let i = 0; i <= uSegs; i++) { const u = (i / uSegs) * 2 - 1; // -1..1 // width profile const widthProfile = Math.sin(Math.PI * Math.pow(v, 0.75)) * (1.0 + 0.3 * v); const x = u * widthProfile * size * 0.5; // length axis with outward lean const theta = openness * Math.pow(v, 1.3); // angle of lean at this point // arc from base const arcLen = v * size; const y = Math.sin(Math.min(theta, Math.PI/2)) ... } } } ``` Hmm, let me think differently. A petal can be modeled as a bent sheet. Parameterize along the length with angle θ from vertical: θ(v) = openness * v^1.2 (radians), so the tip leans outward Then the centerline position: - The petal bends along an arc. Integrating: - y(v) = ∫ cos(θ) ds, z(v) = ∫ sin(θ) ds, with s = v * size We can approximate numerically by accumulating segments — that gives a smooth arc. Or use closed form approximation: - y = size * (1 - cos)/... Simple closed form: treat the petal as part of a circle. If the total bend angle is openness (in radians) and arc length is size, radius R = size / openness. Then: - y = R * sin(θ), z = R * (1 - cos(θ)) where θ = openness * v. Check: at v=0, y=0, z=0. At v=1, y = R*sin(openness), z = R*(1-cos(openness)). Tangent direction at tip is (cos θ, sin θ) tilted by θ from vertical. For openness = 0: R → ∞, y → size*v, z → 0. Good (need to handle openness near 0 with limit). Then add curl at the tip: extra rotation of the tip portion backward. Could add: extraCurl = curl * pow(v, 3), and rotate around x-axis... that complicates. Simpler: increase effective openness near tip: θ(v) = openness * v + curl * Math.pow(Math.max(0, v - 0.5) * 2, 2) * openness That makes the tip curl more. Fine. For cupping (edges fold toward viewer): offset z by cupAmount * (u²) * something. Actually for a rose petal, edges cup inward (toward the center of the rose) near the base and flare at the tip. Let me add: z -= cup * u² * width * (1 - v) — cups at the base. And at the tip, edges flare outward: z += flare * |u|^1.5 * v^2. Plus ruffle: z += sin(u * freq + v * twist) * amp * v^1.5 * |u| — ruffle mostly at edges/tip. Then place the petal: rotate around Y by angle, translate base to radius r0. Petal arrangement (phyllotaxis-like): - Layers: 3-4 layers. Inner layer: 3-5 petals, small, openness ~0.15. Middle: 5-7 petals, openness ~0.5. Outer: 8-10 petals, openness ~0.9. Maybe extra outer layer openness 1.2. - Each layer rotated by offset. - Petals slightly staggered in height. The center bud: can be modeled with tiny, nearly closed petals spiraled tightly — using golden angle (137.5°) placement for inner petals looks great. Actually, a nicer approach for realism: use golden angle spiral for all petals: ``` const goldenAngle = Math.PI * (3 - Math.sqrt(5)); for i in 0..numPetals: t = i / numPetals; angle = i * goldenAngle; size = lerp(small, large, pow(t, 0.8)); openness = lerp(0.1, 1.1, pow(t, 1.2)); ``` This gives a natural spiral bloom. Combined with slight random jitter, looks organic. Material: MeshPhysicalMaterial with: - color: deep rose red/pink - roughness ~0.6 - sheen for petal softness (three.js supports sheen in physical material) - DoubleSide - vertexColors could add gradient (darker at base, lighter at tip) — nice touch! Add vertex colors based on v. Lighting: - Environment: use RoomEnvironment from three.js examples for nice reflections, or simple lights. - Directional light + ambient + a couple of point lights. Stem: green cylinder slightly tapered, maybe with a slight curve (TubeGeometry along a curve). Leaves: petal-like geometry but green, with a midrib and pointed tip. Attach 1-2 leaves to the stem. Sepals (calyx): small green pointed petals under the bloom. Nice touch. Thorns: optional little cones on the stem — nice detail. Ground: soft shadow. Use a simple shadow-catching plane or a gradient background with fog. Controls: OrbitControls for interaction. Background: elegant dark gradient or soft studio look. Let's do a radial gradient dark backdrop with subtle vignette, plus fog. Let me now write the code using Three.js from CDN. I'll use the ES module version with import map (modern approach): ```html ``` Then use OrbitControls and RoomEnvironment from addons. Let me now carefully write the petal geometry builder: ```javascript function createPetalGeometry({ size = 1, openness = 0.6, curl = 0.5, ruffleAmp = 0.05, ruffleFreq = 4, cup = 0.35, widthScale = 1 }) { const uSegs = 20, vSegs = 28; const positions = []; const normals = []; // let three compute const colors = []; const indices = []; for (let j = 0; j <= vSegs; j++) { const v = j / vSegs; // bend angle along length: base near vertical, tip leans out const theta = openness * Math.pow(v, 1.15) + curl * openness * Math.pow(Math.max(0, v - 0.6) / 0.4, 2.0) * 0.5; // circle arc mapping const R = size / Math.max(theta > 0 ? theta : 1e-4, 1e-4) * theta; // hmm ``` Wait, I need to be careful with the arc math. Let me redo: If the petal bends with total angle θ_tip at v=1 and bend is linear in arc length s (s = v·size), then local bend angle at s is θ(s) = θ_tip · (s/size) = θ_tip · v. The radius of curvature R = size / θ_tip. Position: y(s) = R sin(θ(s)) → at θ_tip small, y ≈ s·(1 - θ²/6) ≈ s ✓ z(s) = R (1 - cos(θ(s))) → ≈ s θ/2 → at v=1: (size/θ)(θ²/2) = size θ/2. For θ=0.9 rad (~51°), z ≈ 0.45·size. Reasonable outward lean. But with curl, bend isn't linear in s. Easier: numerically integrate the centerline. For each v_j, I can compute incremental: Actually simplest robust approach: build centerline by stepping: ```javascript const steps = vSegs; let cy = 0, cz = 0; // centerline positions let angle = 0; // current tangent angle from vertical const ds = size / steps; const centerline = [{y: 0, z: 0, ang: 0}]; for (let j = 1; j <= steps; j++) { const v = j / steps; const vPrev = (j - 1) / steps; // bend rate increases toward tip for curl const targetAng = openness * Math.pow(v, 1.1) + curl * Math.pow(Math.max(0, v - 0.55) / 0.45, 2) * openness * 0.8; const targetAngPrev = openness * Math.pow(vPrev, 1.1) + curl * Math.pow(Math.max(0, vPrev - 0.55) / 0.45, 2) * openness * 0.8; const ang = (targetAng + targetAngPrev) / 2; cy += Math.cos(ang) * ds; cz += Math.sin(ang) * ds; centerline.push({ y: cy, z: cz, ang: targetAng }); } ``` Then for each cross-section at step j, place points across the width: - width w(v) = size * widthScale * profile(v), profile = sin(π · v^0.72)^0.9 maybe, ensuring 0 at v=0 and rounded near tip. Actually a rose petal: very narrow at base, widening quickly, max around 75%, rounded tip. Try profile(v) = sin(π * pow(v, 0.8))^0.8? At v=1, sin(π)=0, so tip closes to a point — rose petal tips are rounded but the top edge does come together in this param; that's okay, gives heart-ish shape. Maybe use pow(v, 0.9) so tip rounds more gently. Hmm, but if the tip comes to a point, normals get weird. Fine with computeVertexNormals. - The cross-section direction is perpendicular to the tangent in the y-z plane... actually the width axis is horizontal (x) rotated by nothing; the petal is a surface: point = centerline(y,z) + xAxis * (u * w/2) + cup offsets in the normal direction. The normal direction of the centerline in the y-z plane: n = (-sin(ang)... let's see, tangent t = (0, cos a, sin a) in (x,y,z). Normal in plane: (0, -sin a, cos a). Cross-section offset for cupping: edges move along ±normal or ±binormal. Cupping: petal edges curl toward the upper side (concave side faces the rose center). Offset = cupAmount * (u^2) * w/2 along the normal direction n. For a petal leaning outward, the concave side faces inward/up toward rose axis — offset along n = (0,-sin a, cos a) moves points "up-back" which is toward the rose axis if petal leans outward (+z direction, rose axis at z=0... wait, petal base at center, leaning outward means tip away from axis, so inward is -z direction. n = (0, -sin a, cos a) has +z component — that's outward. So cup offset should be along -n for cupping toward axis... Hmm, actually rose petals: near the base, they cup around the bud (concave side faces inward toward axis). At the tip, they flare and roll back (convex outward). So cup amount should decrease/reverse with v: cupOffset = -n * cup * u² * (1 - v*0.8) * w — cups inward strongly at base plus tip roll: +n * roll * |u|^1.7 * v^3 * w — edges roll outward at tip And ruffle: +n * sin(u * freq * π + v * twist + phase) * ruffleAmp * v^2 * |u|^1.5. This should produce nice organic petals. For vertex colors: darker, richer color at base (v=0), lighter/brighter at tip. Also slight color variation per petal. I'll pass base color and tip color and lerp, and use vertexColors: true. Petal placement: ```javascript const petal = new THREE.Mesh(geo, material); petal.rotation.y = angle; // around vertical axis // base offset: inner petals at radius ~0, outer at small radius petal.position.y = heightOffset; ``` Since geometry leans toward +z, rotating around Y places it at angle. Base radius offset: petal.position.set(sin(angle)*r, y0, cos(angle)*r)? If geometry leans +z and we rotate by angle around Y, the lean direction becomes (sin angle, 0, cos angle). So position base at (sin(angle)*r0, y0, cos(angle)*r0). Good. Bloom construction: ```javascript function createBloom(petalColor) { const bloom = new THREE.Group(); const layerDefs = [ // inner bud spiral { count: 5, size: 0.35, openness: 0.12, curl: 0.2, width: 0.55, y: 0.28, r: 0.02 }, { count: 6, size: 0.55, openness: 0.35, curl: 0.35, width: 0.7, y: 0.24, r: 0.05 }, { count: 8, size: 0.8, openness: 0.65, curl: 0.5, width: 0.85, y: 0.16, r: 0.09 }, { count: 9, size: 1.0, openness: 1.0, curl: 0.7, width: 1.0, y: 0.08, r: 0.13 }, { count: 7, size: 1.1, openness: 1.35, curl: 0.9, width: 1.05, y: 0.0, r: 0.17 }, ]; let petalIndex = 0; const goldenAngle = Math.PI * (3 - Math.sqrt(5)); for (const [li, layer] of layerDefs.entries()) { for (let i = 0; i < layer.count; i++) { const angle = petalIndex * goldenAngle + jitter; ... } } } ``` Using the golden angle across all petals regardless of layer gives spiral continuity. Add slight random jitter to size/rotation for organic feel. Inner bud: the very center of a rose has petals wrapping around in a tight swirl. The small petals with low openness will approximate it. To enhance, the innermost 2-3 petals could have higher "wrap" — but my petals don't wrap around the axis (that would need bending in the x-z plane). A trick: rotate inner petals and give them strong cup so they hug. It'll look decent. Alternative for the bud: add a small twisted cone/spiral at the very center. I could create a tiny "swirl" using a torus knot-ish or a lathe with spiral... Might be overkill. Let me add one more inner layer with tiny size and strong cup, openness ~0.05, so they form a closed bud. Should be fine. Sepals: 5 green pointy petals hanging under the bloom. Use leaf-ish geometry: narrow width, length, openness high so they bend downward-outward. Actually sepals point downward — I can place them rotated PI around the lean axis or position them with rotation.x = PI to flip. Simpler: create sepal geometry with negative direction... Easiest: create the petal geometry, then rotate the mesh: petal.rotation order — first rotate x by PI (flip upside down so it points down), then rotate around Y for angle. Set rotation.order appropriately or use a group: sepalGroup.rotation.x = Math.PI * 0.85 then position. Hmm. Simpler approach: create sepal as its own geometry — a narrow pointed shape drooping down. I can reuse createPetalGeometry then set mesh.rotation.z... Let me just make a parent group per sepal: group.rotation.y = angle; mesh inside with rotation.x = Math.PI (points down) plus a tilt outward: rotation.x = Math.PI - tilt. With geometry leaning +z and extending +y, rotating x by π makes it extend -y and lean -z (inward). Rotating by π - tilt makes it extend mostly down and lean outward a bit. Then position the group at bloom base. That works. Leaf: bigger petal geometry, green, pointed tip, with serrated-ish ruffle (high ruffleFreq, low amp), strong cup for the midrib V shape. Attach to stem at a node, angled upward-outward. Leaves in a rose are compound (3-5 leaflets) — could make 3 leaflets on a small petiole for extra realism. Let me do a leaf group: central leaflet + 2 side leaflets angled. Stem: Use TubeGeometry along a CatmullRomCurve3 with slight S-curve, radius tapering — TubeGeometry has constant radius; alternatively use CylinderGeometry with slight bend via multiple segments and vertex manipulation, or LatheGeometry... TubeGeometry with fixed small radius (0.05) is fine, or make a custom tapered tube by using two cylinders. Actually a slightly tapered, gently curved stem: I can build with CylinderGeometry(rTop=0.045, rBottom=0.07, height=6, 12, 20) and bend it by displacing vertices: x += bendCurve(y). Simple. Thorns: small cones (ConeGeometry) attached at random heights along stem, pointing outward, slightly curved... cones are fine, green-brown color. Receptacle (the bulb under the bloom): small sphere scaled, green. Background & atmosphere: - Dark elegant background with subtle radial gradient via CSS on body, renderer alpha true... Or a scene fog + large gradient sphere. I'll do CSS gradient body with renderer alpha: true, plus fog matching... Fog needs scene.background color to blend. Simpler: set scene.background = new THREE.Color(0x0d0a10) and use fog of same color, with a big soft radial glow sprite behind the rose? Or use CSS gradient and alpha renderer, no fog. I'll go with alpha renderer + CSS radial gradient (deep plum/charcoal). Add subtle floating particles (dust/pollen sparkles) for atmosphere — nice touch, cheap with Points. Lighting: - HemisphereLight soft - Key DirectionalLight with shadows (castShadow), positioned upper right - Rim light from behind-left, colored pink - Point light warm from front - Environment via RoomEnvironment + PMREMGenerator for nice sheen response. Shadows: ground plane with ShadowMaterial opacity 0.3, soft shadow (PCFSoft). Rose casts shadow. Also add falling/floating petals? Maybe a few petals drifting — adds life. Could animate 6-8 petals falling slowly with rotation. Nice touch but keep performance. Let me add gentle floating sparkle particles + a few drifting petals using the petal geometry, low opacity... Drifting petals need DoubleSide already. OK. Animation: gentle sway of the whole rose (rotation.z small sine), bloom slight breathing, particles drifting. OrbitControls with damping, autoRotate slow optional (enable, user can drag). Post-processing? Bloom (UnrealBloomPass) could make it dreamy but adds complexity & cost. Skip; keep clean physically-lit look. Maybe slight tone mapping: ACESFilmic + exposure. Petal material: MeshPhysicalMaterial: - color white w/ vertexColors for gradient - roughness 0.55, - sheen 1.0, sheenColor pinkish, sheenRoughness 0.5 - side: THREE.DoubleSide - clearcoat small? Petals are velvety → sheen is the right feature. Color options: classic red rose (deep crimson base → lighter scarlet tip), or pink. Let me do a rich red rose: base #7a0f1e-ish dark, mid #c0283f, tip #e8596b? Vertex color lerp from dark base to lighter tip. Also edge lighter. With white material color multiplied. Let me also add subtle translucency feel: use `transmission` 0? No. Maybe `thickness`/transmission too heavy. Sheen suffices. Leaf material: MeshStandardMaterial/Physical green #2d6a2f, roughness 0.7, with vertex color gradient (darker at base, lighter at edges/tip?), plus midrib lighter — the cup fold creates a natural crease that lighting will shade. Now, geometry builder details. Let me write it concretely. ```javascript function createPetalGeometry(opts) { const { size = 1, widthScale = 1, openness = 0.6, // total lean angle (radians) of tip curl = 0.4, // extra backward roll at tip (multiplier) cup = 0.35, // inward cupping of edges (0..1) flare = 0.25, // outward roll of edges at tip ruffleAmp = 0.04, ruffleFreq = 4, twist = 2.0, // ruffle phase change along v colorBase = new THREE.Color('#8a1226'), colorTip = new THREE.Color('#ff6f7d'), uSegs = 22, vSegs = 30 } = opts; // 1) centerline by integration const cl = []; { let y = 0, z = 0; const N = vSegs; const ds = size / N; const bendAt = (v) => openness * Math.pow(v, 1.05) + curl * Math.pow(Math.max(0, (v - 0.55) / 0.45), 2) * 0.9; // note bendAt returns total tangent angle at v let prevB = bendAt(0); cl.push({ y: 0, z: 0, ang: 0 }); for (let j = 1; j <= N; j++) { const v = j / N; const b = bendAt(v); const aMid = (b + prevB) / 2; y += Math.cos(aMid) * ds; z += Math.sin(aMid) * ds; cl.push({ y, z, ang: b }); prevB = b; } } const positions = []; const colors = []; const uvs = []; const indices = []; const widthProfile = (v) => { // narrow base, broad, rounded tip return Math.pow(Math.sin(Math.PI * Math.pow(v, 0.85)), 0.75); }; for (let j = 0; j <= vSegs; j++) { const v = j / vSegs; const c = cl[j]; const a = c.ang; // normal in y-z plane (pointing "outward-up"): const ny = -Math.sin(a), nz = Math.cos(a); const halfW = 0.5 * size * widthScale * widthProfile(v); for (let i = 0; i <= uSegs; i++) { const u = (i / uSegs) * 2 - 1; const au = Math.abs(u); // cupping toward rose center (along -normal) stronger at base, // flaring outward (+normal) at the tip edges const cupOff = -cup * u * u * halfW * (1.0 - 0.75 * v); const flareOff = flare * Math.pow(au, 1.6) * halfW * Math.pow(v, 3.0); const ruffleOff = Math.sin(u * ruffleFreq * Math.PI + v * twist * Math.PI * 2) * ruffleAmp * size * Math.pow(v, 1.7) * Math.pow(au, 0.8); const nOff = cupOff + flareOff + ruffleOff; const x = u * halfW; const y = c.y + ny * nOff; const z = c.z + nz * nOff; positions.push(x, y, z); const col = colorBase.clone().lerp(colorTip, Math.pow(v, 1.3)); // slightly brighten edges col.offsetHSL(0, 0, 0.05 * au * v); colors.push(col.r, col.g, col.b); uvs.push(i / uSegs, v); } } for (let j = 0; j < vSegs; j++) { for (let i = 0; i < uSegs; i++) { const a0 = j * (uSegs + 1) + i; const b0 = a0 + 1; const c0 = a0 + (uSegs + 1); const d0 = c0 + 1; indices.push(a0, c0, b0, b0, c0, d0); } } const geo = new THREE.BufferGeometry(); geo.setAttribute('position', new THREE.Float32BufferAttribute(positions, 3)); geo.setAttribute('color', new THREE.Float32BufferAttribute(colors, 3)); geo.setAttribute('uv', new THREE.Float32BufferAttribute(uvs, 2)); geo.setIndex(indices); geo.computeVertexNormals(); return geo; } ``` Wait — the cup direction. If petal leans outward (toward +z), rose center axis is behind (toward -z at the top). Normal n = (ny, nz) = (-sin a, cos a). At a=0 (base): n = (0,1) i.e. +y direction?? Hmm wait, n is in the y-z plane: (ny, nz). At base a=0 → (0, 1) meaning +z. Tangent at base is (cos 0, sin 0) = (1, 0) → +y direction (up). Normal (0,1)→ +z is perpendicular. ✓. At tip with a=1.2 rad: tangent (cos1.2, sin1.2) = (0.36, 0.93) mostly +z (outward) ✓; normal = (-sin1.2, cos1.2) = (-0.93, 0.36) → mostly -y (downward). Hmm, normal rotating with tangent — that's the "top side normal" of the bent sheet. Cupping toward the rose center at the base means moving edges toward... at base, rose center is at -z relative? No wait. Let me set up: petal base sits near the rose axis (y-axis). Petal extends up (+y) and leans outward (+z at angle 0 rotation). The rose center/axis is in the -z direction from the petal. The petal's concave side should face the axis (face -z, and face +y/up as it opens). At base (a=0): normal +z. That faces AWAY from axis. So the "top" of my sheet (normal side) is the outer side. Cupping edges toward the axis = offset along -n. My cupOff = -cup*u²*halfW*(...) → negative → moves along -n → toward axis ✓ at base. At tip (a=1.2): normal = (-0.93y, 0.36z)... offset along -n moves edges +y (up) and -z (inward-ish). Cup factor (1 - 0.75v) at v=1 is 0.25, small. Flare: +flare * ... along +n → down & outward — petal tips flare down/outward ✓. Good, signs work out. Ruffle at edges mostly: multiplied by au^0.8 → max at edges, zero at center ✓, and grows with v ✓. Now — check petal tip: widthProfile(1) = sin(π·1)^0.75 = 0 → tip is a point. Real rose petals have a rounded top edge, sometimes slightly notched. A point-ish tip is okay for bud petals; outer petals look better rounded. Alternative profile: sin(π·pow(v,0.8))^0.9, still 0 at v=1. To get rounded tip, could clamp: profile = sin(π·min(v,0.999)... no. Or use profile that ends small but nonzero: profile(v) = sin(π·pow(v,0.8)) but evaluate v tip as 0.98 → sin(π·0.984)≈0.05, tiny. Point-ish is fine honestly — combined with curl at tip it reads like a rolled petal edge. Many procedural roses do exactly this. Keep. Actually, I want the outer petals to look like classic hybrid tea rose petals — broad with a slightly squared/wavy top. My ruffle + curl handles that reasonably. Leaf geometry: reuse with different params: widthScale higher relative profile, pointed tip — leaf should come to a point: profile works. cup high (V-fold along midrib), flare 0, ruffleFreq high (9), ruffleAmp 0.02 for serration illusion, openness ~0.5, curl low. Green colors base #1c4a1e tip #3f7a34 with lighter edge. Leaf midrib: could add a thin cylinder along centerline — skip, cup fold suffices. Sepal: narrow widthScale 0.35, openness 0.3, cup 0.5, green, pointed. Flip downward. Bud center: to make the center look like a swirl, the innermost petals: size 0.32, openness 0.08, curl 0.15, cup 0.8 (strong wrap), width 0.5. 4-5 of them at golden angles. They'll form a little closed cone-ish bud. Hmm, one more trick for the bud: rotate inner petals slightly around their own lean axis to wrap. That's rotation.z of the mesh before rotation.y? If I want the petal to wrap around the center axis, I'd twist the geometry around its vertical axis. I could add a "twist" parameter in geometry: rotate each cross-section's x-axis around the tangent by twistAngle*v — making the petal twist like a ribbon. Combined with placement, inner petals would wrap. Let me add a `twistGeo` param: rotate x offsets... The cross-section is along x; twisting around tangent means points rotate in the plane perpendicular to tangent: (x, nOff) rotate by angle τ(v) = twist * v * π? That mixes x and normal offset: x' = x cosτ - nOff sinτ... but nOff is computed from cup etc. Actually twist should apply to the whole cross-section: points defined by (x, w) where w is normal offset. Rotated: x' = x cos τ − w sin τ w' = x sin τ + w cos τ Then position = center + xAxis·x' + n·w'. For inner petals twist ~0.5 (rad total at tip, τ = twist·v·something). This gives the spiral-wrap look of bud petals. I'll add param `twistGeo` default 0 for outer, ~0.8-1.2 for inner 2 layers. Wait, but the rose bud swirl is about wrapping around the vertical rose axis, and each petal twisting around its own tangent does contribute to a wrapped appearance when combined with strong cup. Let's include modest twistGeo for inner petals and see. It should help. Stem bend: ```javascript function createStem() { const height = 5.5; const geo = new THREE.CylinderGeometry(0.035, 0.06, height, 10, 24); const pos = geo.attributes.position; for (let i = 0; i < pos.count; i++) { const y = pos.getY(i); // -h/2..h/2 const t = (y + height/2) / height; // 0 bottom .. 1 top // gentle S curve const bend = Math.sin(t * Math.PI) * 0.25 + t*t*0.15; pos.setX(i, pos.getX(i) + bend); } geo.computeVertexNormals(); } ``` Position stem so top is at y=0 (bloom base) → translate down by height/2. Thorns: cones length 0.12, radius 0.03, at various heights, pointing outward+slightly up, color dark reddish-green #4a5d23 → brownish. Attach to stem group, must follow bend offset x at that height — compute same bend function. Leaves: petiole (thin cylinder) from stem + 3 leaflets. Position at t~0.35 and 0.55 heights. Leaflet: petal geometry size 0.9, width 0.55, cup 0.45, openness 0.7, curl 0.3, ruffleFreq 10, ruffleAmp 0.015, twist 1. Colors greens. Orient: leaf group rotation to point outward/upward. Also a top sepal star + ovary bulb (small sphere squashed, green) right under bloom at y≈-0.05. Ground: circle radius 8, ShadowMaterial, opacity 0.35. Positioned at bottom of stem y = -5.5·... Let me define: bloom center around y=0, stem from y=-0.1 down to y=-5.6, ground at y=-5.6. Hmm, that puts camera looking down a lot. Maybe ground lower and rose floating with petals falling — actually a single long-stem rose slightly angled looks elegant. Ground shadow plane at stem bottom. Camera at (2.2, 0.8, 3.2) looking at (0, -1.2, 0)? Let me frame: bloom at y≈0.3, stem bottom at -5.5. Target (0, -1.5, 0). Add controls limits. Actually maybe more elegant: rose in a subtle dark void, no ground, soft spotlight from top, drifting petals + particles. Shadow plane catches shadow below — gives grounding. Keep ground plane with shadow only (invisible otherwise). Falling petals: 7 petals, random params (outer-petal-like), each with random rotation, falling with sway, resetting to top when below ground. Rotate them as they fall (tumbling). Opacity 1, same material. They should land? Simple loop: spawn above, fall to below ground, respawn. Soft look. Particles: 150 points, small, additive, slow drift upward twinkle via size attenuation and opacity pulsing? Simple Points with PointsMaterial size 0.02, transparent, opacity 0.5, color warm. Slow sin motion. Lighting rig: - key: DirectionalLight(0xfff2e8, 2.2) at (4, 6, 3), castShadow, shadow.mapSize 2048, radius soft. - rim: DirectionalLight(0xff5f8f, 1.2) at (-5, 2, -4) - fill: HemisphereLight(0x8a7aa0, 0x1a1418, 0.5) - Environment: RoomEnvironment via PMREM, intensity low (scene.environmentIntensity = 0.35 in newer three; for 0.160 scene.environment intensity not available — environmentIntensity added in r163). I'll use r160 and instead control via material.envMapIntensity per material. Fine: set petalMaterial.envMapIntensity = 0.5, etc. Actually simpler: skip RoomEnvironment, use lights only — but MeshPhysicalMaterial sheen looks better with env. RoomEnvironment import from addons, easy: ```javascript import { RoomEnvironment } from 'three/addons/environments/RoomEnvironment.js'; const pmrem = new THREE.PMREMGenerator(renderer); scene.environment = pmrem.fromScene(new RoomEnvironment(renderer), 0.04).texture; ``` In r160, RoomEnvironment constructor optionally takes renderer? RoomEnvironment() no args needed (older had renderer arg). `pmrem.fromScene(new RoomEnvironment(), 0.04)`. Good. Tone mapping ACESFilmic, exposure 1.1. Renderer shadowMap PCFSoft, antialias true, alpha true. Camera: PerspectiveCamera 40°, position (2.5, 0.6, 3.5) target (0, -1.0, 0). autoRotate speed 0.6. Bloom layers with golden angle — let me finalize counts & params: ``` layers = [ { n: 4, size: 0.30, width: 0.50, open: 0.06, curl: 0.25, cup: 0.85, twist: 1.3, y: 0.26, r: 0.015, flare: 0.0 }, { n: 5, size: 0.42, width: 0.60, open: 0.15, curl: 0.30, cup: 0.75, twist: 1.1, y: 0.24, r: 0.030, flare: 0.05 }, { n: 6, size: 0.58, width: 0.72, open: 0.30, curl: 0.40, cup: 0.60, twist: 0.8, y: 0.21, r: 0.045, flare: 0.10 }, { n: 7, size: 0.76, width: 0.85, open: 0.55, curl: 0.50, cup: 0.45, twist: 0.45, y: 0.16, r: 0.065, flare: 0.20 }, { n: 8, size: 0.95, width: 0.95, open: 0.85, curl: 0.65, cup: 0.35, twist: 0.2, y: 0.11, r: 0.085, flare: 0.30 }, { n: 9, size: 1.08, width: 1.05, open: 1.15, curl: 0.80, cup: 0.28, twist: 0.1, y: 0.05, r: 0.105, flare: 0.42 }, { n: 7, size: 1.15, width: 1.10, open: 1.45, curl: 1.00, cup: 0.22, twist: 0.05, y: 0.00, r: 0.120, flare: 0.55 }, ] ``` Total petals: 4+5+6+7+8+9+7 = 46 petals. Each 22×30 grid ≈ 700 verts, ~1300 tris → 46 petals ≈ 60k tris. Fine. Scale: bloom overall ~2.2 units wide, stem 5.5. OK. Golden angle placement: angle = petalIndex * 2.399963 + layerOffsetJitter. Also per-petal random jitter in size (±8%), openness (±10%), y (±0.02), and slight tilt variation. To tilt, after rotation.y I can rotate the mesh around a horizontal axis... The lean direction is +z rotated by rotation.y. Adding tilt = rotating around x' axis perpendicular... Simplest: petal.rotation.order = 'YXZ'? Actually default XYZ: rotation applies... Let me use: mesh.rotation.y = angle; mesh.rotation.x = smallRandom → rotation order XYZ means applied Z then Y then X? Three.js Euler order 'XYZ' means R = Rx·Ry·Rz? In three.js, rotations are applied in the order specified by `order`, with 'XYZ' meaning... the matrix is composed as R = R_x R_y R_z (extrinsic? intrinsic?). THREE.Euler XYZ: quaternion setFromEuler applies... Let me not overthink: I'll create per-petal wrapper group: group.rotation.y = angle (placement), mesh inside with rotation.x = leanExtra (small random ±0.06) and rotation.z = ±0.05 for asymmetry. Since geometry leans toward +z already via openness, extra rotation.x adds lean variance. Also inner petals should tilt slightly toward center? They're near-vertical anyway. Shadows: meshes castShadow = true, receiveShadow = true for petals (self-shadowing adds depth!). Petal self-shadow with bias tuning: shadow.bias = -0.0005, normalBias 0.02. Use shadow map 2048. 46 petals + leaves casting — ok. Perf: falling petals and bloom share geometry/material where possible. Geometries differ by params; falling petals can share one geometry cloned? Falling petals can reuse a single outer-petal geometry (same for all 7, just different scale/rotation). Let me also add a very subtle "glow" plane/sprite behind bloom: a radial-gradient canvas texture sprite, additive, soft pink, scale 6, at z behind. Adds dreamy depth. Cheap. Do it. UI: minimal overlay title "R O S E" elegant serif, small hint "drag to orbit · scroll to zoom". Also color picker? Could offer buttons: Red / Pink / White / Yellow rose variants switching color palettes (vertex colors are baked per geometry...). To switch colors, I'd need to rebuild geometry or adjust material color multiplier. Material color multiplies vertex colors — if vertex colors are reddish, multiplying by blue gives weird. Alternative: keep vertex colors as grayscale gradient (dark→light), and set material.color to the rose hue; then color variants just change material.color + sheen color! The per-petal slight hue variation lost, but variant switching becomes trivial. But grayscale vertex colors with red multiply looks fine: dark base = deep red, bright tip = lighter red. I'll do: vertex color = grayscale from 0.35 (base) → 1.0 (tip) with edge brighten 1.05; material.color = palette color; variant buttons update color/sheenColor. Falling petals share same material → they update too. Palettes: - Crimson: color #d31f3c... hmm vertex color multiplies, so choose color bright-ish: #e8354f, sheen #ff8fa0. - Blush pink: #f78fb0? use #f28bb4, sheen #ffc9d9. - Ivory: #f2ead8, sheen #fff5e0. - Sunset: #f5a742? orange #f07f3c, sheen #ffc37a. - Violet: #a06bd8, sheen #d0a8ff. Buttons styled pill glassy. Also maybe a "petals" quality toggle? Skip. Title styling: thin elegant font (Cormorant Garamond via Google fonts? External font link allowed). I'll use Google Fonts link + fallback serif. Now leaves & stem material: MeshStandardMaterial({ color:#2f6b33, roughness:0.75 }) with vertexColors for gradient (grayscale 0.5→1.0) so color multiplies. Leaf envIntensity 0.4. Sepals: same green material family. Ovary bulb: SphereGeometry(0.14, 16, 12) scaled y 0.8, green darker. Sepal placement: 5 sepals, angle = i/5·2π + offset, wrapper group at (0, -0.02, 0)... bloom base at y≈0. Sepals droop from y≈0.0. Geometry: size 0.75, width 0.28, open 0.35, cup 0.6, curl 0.2. Mesh rotation.x = π - 0.45 (points down, leaning outward slightly). Wrapper rotation.y = angle. Position y = -0.03. Check: geometry extends +y leaning +z. rotation.x = π: +y→-y, +z→-z (rotate around x by π: y→-y, z→-z) so extends down, leans -z (inward). rotation.x = π - 0.45: leaning direction = rotate (0, sinθ_lean...) hmm just trust: π - 0.45 gives mostly-down with slight outward lean (+z component: rotate vector (0,1, lean) about x by angle α: y' = y cosα - z sinα... vector (0, cos β, sin β) (β = lean angle from vertical) rotated about X by α: y' = cosβ cosα − sinβ sinα = cos(β+α); z' = cosβ sinα + sinβ cosα = sin(β+α). So effective angle from vertical β+α. With α = π − 0.45, β≈0.35: total = π − 0.1 → points down, slightly outward (z' = sin(π−0.1) ≈ 0.1) ✓. Stem top connects at y=0 region: bloom sits at y≈0..0.26 (petal base heights up to 0.26 + petal size up to ~1.1 tall → bloom occupies y 0..~1.3, widest ~±1.1). Stem: from y=0.05 down to -5.45. Hmm total height — camera far 100 fine. Thorns: place at t = 0.25, 0.45, 0.6, 0.8 along stem with alternating sides. Cone geometry pointing +z outward, rotate to align slightly upward. Position x = bend(t). bend function shared: ```javascript const stemHeight = 5.5; const bendX = (t) => Math.sin(t * Math.PI) * 0.22 + t * t * 0.12; ``` where t=0 at bottom, 1 at top. Stem cylinder translated: geometry translate(0, -stemHeight/2 + 0.05, 0) so top at 0.05. Thorn y position: y = 0.05 - (1 - t) * stemHeight. Leaf attachments: two leaves at t≈0.55 and t≈0.35, alternating sides. Leaf structure: wrapper group at stem surface point, rotation.y to face outward, then petiole cylinder (r 0.02, len 0.5) angled up 30°, then leaflet group at end: central leaflet + two side leaflets rotated ±40° around y and tilted. Leaflet geometry from createPetalGeometry with green palette and pointed profile, size 0.8/0.65. Leaflet orientation: geometry extends +y leaning +z; want leaflets roughly horizontal pointing outward/up: rotate mesh rotation.x = -π/2 + tilt? Rotating about x by -π/2: +y→+z? Rotation about x by -90°: y→ -z?? Let me compute: rotation about x by angle α: y' = y cosα − z sinα; z' = y sinα + z cosα. α = −π/2: cos=0, sin=−1 → y' = z; z' = −y. Vector (0,1,0) → (0,0,−1): +y becomes −z. Hmm so rotation.x = −π/2 tips the up-vector to −z. Then with wrapper rotation.y, points outward. Add α = −π/2 + 0.5 for upward-ish tilt: effective: leaf extends outward and slightly up, drooping tip via its own openness curl. I'll wrap leaflets in groups and eyeball angles; values can be tuned by feel. Since I can't run it, I'll be careful and use sensible values, wrapper hierarchy making orientation compositional and forgiving: Leaf group L: - L.position = stem surface point - L.rotation.y = outwardAngle - child petiole mesh: cylinder along +z? CylinderGeometry is along Y; rotate x by π/2 → along z... position at half-length. Actually let me make petiole along +z: rotation.x = Math.PI/2 gives y→z? α=π/2: y'=−z, z'=y → (0,1,0)→(0,0,1) ✓ along +z. Petiole slight upward tilt: wrap in group with rotation.x = -0.35 (tilt up: rotating +z vector about x by -0.35: z'=cos, y' = +sin? vector (0,0,1): y' = −sinα·1? Using y' = y cosα − z sinα = −sinα; with α=−0.35: y' = −sin(−0.35)= +0.34 ✓ up. So tilt group rotation.x = -0.35 tilts +z toward +y. ✓) - leaflet meshes at petiole end: central leaflet rotation.x = -π/2*0.85 (mostly flat, tip droop via curl), side leaflets additionally rotation.y = ±0.7 (splay) — but rotation order: set leaflet.rotation.set(-1.2, ±0.7, 0, 'YXZ')? With order YXZ, yaw applied... quaternion from euler YXZ = Ry·Rx·Rz. So rotation.y splay then rotation.x pitch — actually Ry·Rx means Rx applied first then Ry. With 'YXZ' the resulting rotation matrix R = Ry Rx Rz: a vector is first rotated by Rz, then Rx, then Ry. Hmm ordering confusion again. Use nested groups to be safe: splayGroup (rotation.y = ±0.7) containing pitchGroup (rotation.x = -1.15) containing mesh. Nested groups = predictable. I'll use small helper `g(x,y,z)` for groups. Falling petals: geometry outer petal variant, each mesh wrapped, random initial transform, in animate: y -= speed*dt; rotation increments; sway x/z by sin. If y < groundY + 0.05 → reset to top y=rand(2..4), new random x/z within radius 2.5, random rotations. Maybe fade near reset? Keep simple, they're decorative. Particle field: BufferGeometry with positions in a cylinder radius 6, y -4..4. PointsMaterial({ color: 0xffc9a3, size: 0.03, transparent, opacity: 0.6, depthWrite: false, blending: AdditiveBlending, sizeAttenuation: true }). Animate slow rise + wrap, or just subtle y sine — simplest: rotate the points group slowly and bob. I'll store base positions and do y = baseY + sin(t*speed + phase)*0.3 via updating attribute? 200 points update per frame is trivial. Glow sprite: canvas 256 radial gradient (rgba(255,80,120,0.35) → transparent), SpriteMaterial additive depthWrite false, scale (8,8,1), position (0, 0.4, -2.5) behind bloom... Sprite always faces camera; position fixed behind. With autoRotate orbit, "behind" changes; a camera-facing glow at fixed world pos is fine — it will be visible when orbiting only when background... sprite at fixed pos rotates around with scene? No, sprite is in world; orbiting camera sees it from different sides — fine, it's a soft blob. Maybe parent glow to bloom center but renderOrder -1, depthTest false so it draws behind everything → always halo behind rose center-ish. Sprite at bloom center with depthTest false and renderOrder... it would draw over stem? With depthTest false and drawn first (renderOrder very low, transparent so it renders in transparent pass sorted by z...). Simpler: skip depthTest tricks; place sprite at bloom center scale 5, opacity 0.5 additive — additive over the rose just brightens center slightly, acceptable and pretty. Hmm, might wash the rose. Better: CSS radial-gradient background provides the glow; skip sprite. Cleaner. Yes — CSS: radial-gradient(ellipse at 50% 42%, #3a1f2e 0%, #241522 35%, #120a12 70%, #0a070c 100%). Elegant. Title overlay: "The Rose" serif italic? Keep: h1 "R O S E" letterspaced, subtitle "procedural three.js bloom". Buttons bottom center. Loading: everything procedural, instant. Resize handler ✓. Pixel ratio min(devicePixelRatio, 2) ✓. Shadow tuning: dir light position (5, 8, 4), target (0, -0.5, 0). shadow camera ortho bounds: left/right/top/bottom ±6? Bloom at y up to 1.3, stem to -5.4; shadow camera needs to cover: set left -4 right 4 top 6 bottom -6? top/bottom map to camera-space y... set: d=4; cam.left=-d, right=d, top=6, bottom=-7? Simpler: top 5, bottom -5, near 1, far 25. Actually to keep crisp: focus on bloom: bounds ±3.5, and stem shadow less critical but nice on ground. Ground at -5.45 receives stem shadow — need bounds covering whole: left -3 right 3 top 4 bottom -8. Resolution 2048 over 6-11 units → decent. normalBias 0.03, bias -0.0002. Falling petals castShadow true — moving shadows, nice. Ground ShadowMaterial opacity 0.4. Rose group slight sway: roseGroup.rotation.z = sin(t*0.5)*0.02; roseGroup.rotation.x = cos(t*0.4)*0.015. Bloom gentle: bloomGroup.rotation.y slow spin? No — orbit autorotate handles motion. Maybe subtle "breathing" scale of bloom: 1 + sin(t*0.8)*0.005. OK. Now, write petal geometry colors as grayscale: ```javascript const shade = 0.30 + 0.75 * Math.pow(v, 1.15); // 0.3 → 1.05 const edgeBoost = 1 + 0.08 * Math.pow(au, 2) * v; let s = Math.min(shade * edgeBoost, 1.15); colors.push(s, s, s); // but tint tip slightly toward warm? keep gray ``` Hmm slight warm tint baked helps red variants but hurts ivory/violet... keep pure grayscale. Material: ```javascript const petalMaterial = new THREE.MeshPhysicalMaterial({ color: 0xd92645, vertexColors: true, roughness: 0.58, metalness: 0, sheen: 1.0, sheenRoughness: 0.55, sheenColor: 0xff8fa3, side: THREE.DoubleSide, envMapIntensity: 0.55, }); ``` Sheen gives velvety rim. For color variants: update petalMaterial.color.set(hex), sheenColor; leaf unchanged. Also falling petals material same instance ✓. Inner petals darker naturally via vertex color (they're mostly low-v region... inner petals have v spanning 0..1 too but small size; fine). One more realism idea: subtle per-petal color offset via a second material clone with slight hue shift for some petals — with variant switching, clones need updating too; keep array of petalMaterials [matA, matB, matC] where B = A shifted ±5% lightness. Variant setter loops. Let me do 3 materials with slight lightness jitter (0.92, 1.0, 1.06 multipliers stored as offsets). Implementation: store palette {base, sheen}; materials m1,m2,m3; on setPalette: m1.color = base×0.92 etc. Use Color.multiplyScalar (clamps? Color values can exceed 1, fine, multiplied with vertex colors in shader... color attribute × diffuse → can exceed 1, tone mapping handles). Good. Sepal/stem/leaf materials: ```javascript const greenMat = new THREE.MeshStandardMaterial({ color: 0x3a7a3f, roughness: 0.7, vertexColors: true, side: THREE.DoubleSide, envMapIntensity: 0.4 }); const stemMat = new THREE.MeshStandardMaterial({ color: 0x3e6b33, roughness: 0.75, envMapIntensity: 0.35 }); const thornMat = new THREE.MeshStandardMaterial({ color: 0x6b7a3a, roughness: 0.6 }); ``` Leaf geometry vertex colors grayscale 0.55→1.0 with edge lighter; midrib lighter line: brighten near u≈0: boost = 0.12*(1-|u|)^8 → vein highlight. Nice. Sepal: grayscale 0.5→0.95. Now the leaf profile: petal widthProfile closes tip to a point ✓ leaf-like. But leaf base should also taper ✓ (profile 0 at base). Leaf ruffle: serration along edges — ruffle with high freq in u? Serrations are along the edge as function of v... my ruffle sin(u*freq + v*twist) mostly varies across u. Edge zigzag along v: add term sin(v * 40) * |u|^6 * amp → only affects very edge, zigzag along length ✓. Add param `serrate` for leaves: ruffleOff += Math.sin(v * 36) * serrate * Math.pow(au, 8) * size. Small. Let me now also handle normals for DoubleSide lighting: three.js flips normals for back faces automatically (gl_FrontFacing). computeVertexNormals fine. Petal geometry counts: uSegs 24, vSegs 30 → 25*31=775 verts, 1440 tris per petal. 46 petals ≈ 66k tris + falling 7 ≈ +10k + leaves ~6k. ~85k tris total. Draw calls: each petal a mesh = ~60 draw calls + extras ≈ 75. Fine, but could merge... keep meshes for simplicity (shadow updates static anyway; only falling petals move). Geometry disposal: single page, no leaks concern. On palette switch no rebuild ✓. Camera & controls: ```javascript camera.position.set(2.6, 0.2, 4.2); controls.target.set(0, -0.9, 0); controls.enableDamping = true; controls.dampingFactor = 0.06; controls.autoRotate = true; autoRotateSpeed = 0.7; controls.minDistance = 1.5; maxDistance = 12; controls.maxPolarAngle = Math.PI * 0.62; // don't go under ground much ``` Stop autorotate on user interact, resume after idle? Simple: controls.addEventListener('start', () => autoRotate=false) and a timeout to resume after 4s. Nice touch. Renderer clear: alpha true, setClearColor 0x000000, 0. Fog: skip (alpha bg). Let me also include a tiny bit of JS-driven intro: camera ease-in from far? Simple: start camera at (4.5, 2.5, 7) and lerp target position to final over first 2s? Use a simple tween in animate with clock elapsed: camPos = lerpVectors(start, end, smoothstep(min(t/2.2,1))). But OrbitControls overrides camera each update? Controls update applies damping from current camera state; setting camera.position each frame during intro while controls enabled could conflict — disable controls until intro done. Do: ```javascript let intro = 0; // in animate: if (intro < 1) { intro = min(1, intro + dt/2.5); const e = easeOutCubic(intro); camera.position.lerpVectors(introStart, introEnd, e); if intro>=1 controls.enabled = true; } controls.enabled = false initially. ``` Nice. Falling petal details: geometry = createPetalGeometry outer-ish params {size: 0.55, width: 1.0, open: 1.0, curl: 0.9, cup: 0.3, flare: 0.5, ruffleAmp: 0.05, ruffleFreq: 3.5, twist: 2}. Material petalMats[1]. castShadow. Each mesh: random pos x∈[-2.5,2.5], z∈[-2,2], y start random spread so they don't all spawn at once (initial y random -5..4). fallSpeed 0.35..0.6, tumble rotSpeed random per axis ±1.5, sway phase. On y < ground+0.03: respawn y = 4 + rand*1.5, new x/z. Also add gentle x drift. Ground Y: stem bottom = 0.05 - 5.5 = -5.45. Ground at -5.45. Camera target -0.9 with distance ~5 → ground visible lower frame ✓. Hmm wait — with bloom at y 0..1.3 and ground at -5.45, the composition is very vertical; camera fov 40 at distance ~5.5 vertical coverage ≈ 2*5.5*tan(20°) ≈ 4.0 — can't see bloom and ground simultaneously; ground shadow only visible when zoomed out/looking down. That's fine — orbit down to see. Or shorten stem to 4.2? A long-stem rose is elegant. Set stem 4.6, ground -4.55. Compromise. maxDistance 14 lets you see all. Target (0,-1.1,0). Actually let me reconsider framing: initial camera (2.4, 0.4, 4.0), target (0,-0.6,0): direction down-ish slight. Good. Let me write the full HTML now. Structure: ```html Rose · Three.js

Triangle (a, d, b): a=(j,i), d=(j+1,i), b=(j,i+1). Cross product order determines normal facing; computeVertexNormals uses winding. If normals end up pointing mostly "down/back" (−n side), front faces dark... DoubleSide lighting flips for backface, so both sides lit; shading normal direction affects which side is considered front but DoubleSide handles. Shadow acne maybe; normalBias helps. Fine either way. Winding check for correct outward normals: want normals roughly along +n = (−sin a, cos a) (y,z). Take base j=0 (a=0): points p(u,v): position ≈ (x, c.y + nOff·0 ... at a=0, ny=0, nz=1: pos = (x, c.y, c.z + nOff). Increasing u → +x; increasing v → +y (c.y grows). Triangle (a=(0,0), d=(1,0)... wait d = a + w1 → next row (j+1): +y direction; b = a+1 → +x direction. Normal = (d−a)×(b−a) = (+y)×(+x) = ŷ×x̂ = −ẑ. Hmm normal −z at base — that's the inward-facing side (facing rose axis) since outward lean is +z. So front face = inner side. With DoubleSide it lights both; slight concern none. Actually wait: face normal determines front face visibility only for FrontSide. DoubleSide → fine. But hold on: computeVertexNormals at shared verts averages face normals; with DoubleSide, three.js negates normal for back faces in shader. OK. Bloom builder: ```javascript const bloom = new THREE.Group(); const layers = [ ... ]; let petalIdx = 0; const GA = Math.PI * (3 - Math.sqrt(5)); layers.forEach((L, li) => { for (let i = 0; i < L.n; i++) { const angle = petalIdx * GA + (Math.random() - 0.5) * 0.15; const geo = createPetalGeometry({ size: L.size * (0.92 + Math.random() * 0.16), width: L.width, open: L.open * (0.9 + Math.random() * 0.2), curl: L.curl, cup: L.cup, flare: L.flare, twist: L.twist, ruffleAmp: 0.03 + Math.random() * 0.02, ruffleFreq: 3.5 + Math.random() * 1.5, ruffleTwist: 1.5 + Math.random(), shadeBase: 0.28, shadeTip: 1.02 }); const mesh = new THREE.Mesh(geo, petalMats[petalIdx % 3]); mesh.castShadow = true; mesh.receiveShadow = true; const holder = new THREE.Group(); holder.rotation.y = angle; holder.position.set(Math.sin(angle) * L.r, L.y, Math.cos(angle) * L.r); mesh.rotation.x = (Math.random() - 0.5) * 0.1; mesh.rotation.z = (Math.random() - 0.5) * 0.12; holder.add(mesh); bloom.add(holder); petalIdx++; } }); ``` 46 geometries — could reuse per layer but randomness per petal nicer. 46 builds × 775 verts = trivial build time (~ms). End = len·(0, 0.479, 0.878) = (0, 0.263, 0.482) for 0.55. Leaflets placed at end with small stems? Simplify: leaflets all originate near end. Leaflet geometry: size 0.7·s, width 0.62, open 0.55, curl 0.35, cup 0.4, flare 0.15, ruffleAmp 0.02, ruffleFreq 5, serrate 0.012, shade .5→.95, vein 0.1, twist 0. So +y → (0, 0.52, −0.85): points up and −z (backward) ✗. I need rotation.x = +(π/2 − 0.55)? α = π/2−0.55: cos α = sin0.55 ≈ 0.52, sin α = cos0.55 ≈ 0.85 → (0,1,0) → (0, 0.52, 0.85) forward-up ✓. So leaflet.rotation.x = π/2 − 0.55 ≈ 1.02. Then its lean (+z geometry) rotates to: (0,0,1) → y' = −sin α = −0.85?? vector (0,0,1): y' = −z sinα = −0.85, z' = z cosα = 0.52 → lean points down-forward — meaning leaflet tip curls downward ✓ natural droop. And geometry up-axis (length) points forward-up (0,0.52,0.85). With open 0.55 tip curves down-forward. Side leaflets: wrap in group rotation.y = ±0.75, containing mesh rotation.x = 1.02, scaled 0.8. Position side leaflets slightly before end: (±0.02, 0.22, 0.40)? Central at (0, 0.26, 0.48). Side at (0, 0.20, 0.36) with yaw groups. Rose leaflets actually attach along the rachis: good enough. Attach leaf to stem: holder at (bendX(t), y, 0) with rotation.y = φ (outward direction). Leaf group inside: rotation.x = −0.4 (raise)? The leaf's petiole already tilts up 0.5. Holder yaw only. Leaves at t=0.62 (φ=2.4) and t=0.42 (φ=−2.2)... choose φ values to look nice from initial camera (camera at +x +z quadrant). Outward directions: first leaf φ ≈ 0.9 (toward +z/+x-ish → visible), second φ ≈ π+0.6 (back-left) — balance. y = 0.05 − (1−t)·4.6. Rose assembly: ```javascript const rose = new THREE.Group(); rose.add(bloom, ovary, sepalsGroup, stemGroup, leavesGroup, thornsGroup); scene.add(rose); ``` Animate sway around base: rose.rotation.z = sin(t·0.6)·0.025; rose pivot at ground? Rotating whole rose around origin (bloom base y≈0) would swing bloom — better pivot at stem bottom: put rose contents in group with position offset so origin at ground: roseGroup.position.y = 0 but children... simpler: create rose group, set rose.position.y = groundY? Let stem/bloom coords as computed (bloom around y=0..1.3, ground at −4.55). Pivot at bottom: wrap rose in `sway` group; set children y offset +4.55 inside rose, then sway.position.y = −4.55, sway.rotation small → pivot at ground ✓. Do it: roseInner.position.y = 4.55; sway.add(roseInner); sway.position.y = −4.55. Sway: sway.rotation.z = sin(t*0.55)*0.02; sway.rotation.x = cos(t*0.42)*0.015. Checking memory: webgl_animation_skinning uses `scene.environment = pmremGenerator.fromScene( new RoomEnvironment( renderer ), 0.04 ).texture;` in older three (r150-ish?). Hmm. In r160, RoomEnvironment class constructor: `constructor()` — I believe the renderer param was removed in r157 ("RoomEnvironment: remove renderer dependency")? Not 100% sure. Wait curl term: curl·pow((1−0.5)/0.5, 2.2)=curl·1 → bend(1) = open + curl ≈ 1.45+1.0 = 2.45 rad = 140°! That means tip tangent points backward-down (cos 2.45 = −0.77) → tip below its mid-height and z back toward... sin 2.45 = 0.64 still +z outward. Hmm 140° tip roll = strongly rolled-back petal — classic outer rose petal ✓ but ensure it doesn't clip the stem; base r 0.12 outward and tip z positive outward ✓ fine. But curl 1.0 might be excessive for outer (would fold tip fully under). Reduce: outer curl 0.7, open 1.3 → bend(1)=2.0 rad=115°: tip pointing down-outward, nice rolled look. Mid layers curl 0.4-0.5: bend tip = open+curl: layer5: 0.85+0.65=1.5 rad=86° → tip horizontal ✓ nice. Geometrically consistent (edge rolls under the petal) — for rolled-back petals edges tuck under ✓ actually that's the classic rolled look. OK. For mid petals a≈1.2: n=(−0.93,0.36): flare → edges down & outward ✓. Everything consistent. Normal at twist: computeVertexNormals handles. Petal material base values: ```js const petalMats = [0.9, 1.0, 1.08].map(k => new THREE.MeshPhysicalMaterial({ color: new THREE.Color(palettes[0].base).multiplyScalar(k), vertexColors: true, roughness: 0.55, metalness: 0, sheen: 1, sheenRoughness: 0.5, sheenColor: new THREE.Color(palettes[0].sheen), clearcoat: 0.12, clearcoatRoughness: 0.6, side: THREE.DoubleSide, envMapIntensity: 0.5 })); ``` setPalette updates all three + active button. Leaf/sepal green mat: ```js const leafMat = new THREE.MeshStandardMaterial({ color: 0x3c7a40, roughness: 0.68, vertexColors: true, side: THREE.DoubleSide, envMapIntensity: 0.35 }); ``` Stem darker: 0x38612f? stems slightly yellow-green: 0x4a7a34. ok. Now assemble everything; also handle context: use `renderer.outputColorSpace = THREE.SRGBColorSpace` (default in r152+). ✓ default already. One more check: `THREE.CylinderGeometry` openEnded default false → caps fine. Stem vertices bend: geometry before translate; iterate pos: y from −h/2..h/2 → t=(y+h/2)/h. bendX(t) = sin(t·π)·0.22 + t²·0.12 — at top t=1: 0.12; mid: 0.22+0.03=0.25 hmm sin(π/2)=1 → 0.22+0.03=0.25; creates S? Monotonic bow — fine, gentle curve. Bloom attaches at top where x=0.12 — bloom group should shift x by 0.12 to sit on stem! Bloom at holder position... place bloom group at x = bendX(1) = 0.12, y=0.05. And sway pivot math unchanged (all inside roseInner). Ovary/sepals also at x 0.12 → parent them under a `head` group at (0.12, 0.05, 0) containing bloom, ovary, sepals. ✓ Also stem top y=0.05 matches. Leaves/thorns y: y(t) = 0.05 − (1−t)·4.6, x=bendX(t). Leaf t=0.55 → y = 0.05−2.07 = −2.02, x=0.22·sin(0.55π)=0.22·0.988=0.217+0.036=0.25. ok. Ground at y = 0.05 − 4.6 = −4.55 ✓ matches GROUND. Petal shadows onto bloom: receiveShadow true ✓. Falling petal respawn above visible? y 3.5+ with camera fov — they'd pop in mid-air visibly; acceptable (sparkly context). Could fade via material per petal opacity... materials shared. Pop-in ok since they're small at top of frame; reduce pop by respawning at y=4.5 (above typical view). ok. Also cap DPR 2. Let me also add `controls.enablePan = false` to keep composition. Final check on imports & API for r160: - THREE.PMREMGenerator ✓ - RoomEnvironment ✓ path 'three/addons/environments/RoomEnvironment.js' - OrbitControls ✓ - CanvasTexture ✓ - ShadowMaterial ✓ - sRGBColorSpace default ✓ Write the whole thing now, carefully. Also wrap module script after DOM (place at body end) ✓. Style: buttons: backdrop-filter blur pill container. Hint text bottom center above palette? Put hint top-right small, fades after 7s via CSS animation forwards. Title top-left: ```css #ui { position: fixed; top: 28px; left: 34px; pointer-events:none; color:#efe0e6; z-index:10; } h1 { font-family:'Cormorant Garamond', serif; font-weight:300; font-size:44px; letter-spacing:.35em; margin:0; text-transform:uppercase; } .sub { font-size:12px; letter-spacing:.25em; opacity:.55; text-transform:uppercase; margin-top:6px; font-family:Inter? just sans } ``` Use system sans for sub. Palette container bottom center; dots. Now write final code. Also count triangles for perf fine. One subtle thing: `mesh.rotation.z` on petal for asymmetry — rotates around geometry z (lean axis) — tilts petal sideways slightly ✓. Random seed not needed. Also I realize the twist on inner petals: tau = twist·v up to 1.3 rad at tip — cross-section rotates 74°, combined with cup gives nice wrap ✓. Edge case in widthProfile: pow(sin(π·pow(v,0.8)), 0.8): at v=0 → sin0=0 → 0^0.8=0 ✓; v=1 → sin(π)=~1.2e-16^... pow(tiny,0.8)→tiny≈0 ✓. Compute normals might produce hard seam at base point (all u verts at same position when halfW=0): duplicate verts at same position → normals averaged fine (each has own normal from adjacent faces; degenerate triangles at tip/base (zero area) contribute zero normal — computeVertexNormals handles zero-area? It adds zero cross product; normalize of near-zero could produce NaN if ALL adjacent faces degenerate — at base row v=0 all verts identical, faces between row0 (degenerate line) and row1 have nonzero area? Face (row0_i, row1_i, row0_i+1): row0_i and row0_i+1 same point → still a valid triangle (line+point) with area ✓ nonzero (half of quad). So normals fine, no NaN. Vertex color at duplicate positions equal ✓ no seams. Alright — also, sepal geometry: reuse builder with greenish grayscale shades and use leafMat. makeLeaf function with scale param; two instances scales 1.0 & 0.85, mirrored yaw. Leaflets castShadow. Write thorn loop: ```js [[0.3, 0.8],[0.5, 2.9],[0.68, 1.7],[0.82, 4.2]].forEach(([t, phi]) => { thorn ... }) ``` Cone: geo = ConeGeometry(0.03, 0.16, 8); geo.rotateX(Math.PI/2) → +z? rotateX(π/2): +y→+z ✓ so cone tip +z, base −z... cone tip originally +y, after rotateX(π/2) tip → +z ✓; translate z −0.05 so base slightly embedded: geo.translate(0,0,0.03)?? Let me: after rotateX, cone extends z from −0.08 (base center) to +0.08 (tip). Position holder at stem surface; slight up-tilt: holder.rotation.x = −0.4 (tip up: +z→ +z cos +y sin ✓ up). holder.rotation.y = phi applied... euler order default XYZ: R = Rx then?? Ugh — use wrapper: yaw group (rotation.y=phi) containing pitch mesh (rotation.x=−0.45). Nested ✓ predictable. Position yaw group at (bendX(t)+cos? ... radial offset: x = bendX(t) + sin(phi)·r(t)?? If yaw=phi rotates +z to (sin phi, 0, cos phi) ✓ so surface point = center + r·(sin phi, 0, cos phi) ✓. Everything nested groups — safe. Leaf yaw similar. Also falling petals material side DoubleSide ✓ shared. Final: meta viewport, title. Add subtle vignette via CSS radial overlay? The bg gradient suffices; maybe add ::after vignette. Add: ```css body::after { content:''; position:fixed; inset:0; pointer-events:none; background: radial-gradient(ellipse at center, transparent 55%, rgba(0,0,0,.45) 100%); } ``` Nice. Let me write it all out now, mindful of correctness. I'll number-check every formula as I write. Also: OrbitControls target (0,−0.7,0); introEnd (2.3, 0.35, 4.1): distance ≈ sqrt(2.3²+1.05²+4.1²)= sqrt(5.29+1.1+16.8)=~4.8 ✓ within min/max. autoRotateSpeed 0.8 (slow). dt clamp 0.05 ✓. particles: positions Float32Array; store base y + speed/phase arrays. Let me finalize stem/leaf/head code and HTML. Additionally: petal count & segments — perf fine. One more aesthetic: slight rotation of whole bloom slowly? The sway covers motion. Write the answer with brief intro + full HTML code block. Keep prose minimal per instruction ("3D rose in three.js, do it." — just deliver). No mention of iframe. Here's a fully procedural 3D rose — every petal is generated mathematically (bent/cupped/ruffled parametric surfaces arranged in a golden-angle phyllotactic spiral), with stem, thorns, compound leaves, sepals, falling petals, and switchable color palettes. ```html Rose · Three.js

Rose

procedurally grown · three.js

drag to orbit · scroll to zoom

``` **Highlights of how it's built:** - **Parametric petals** — each petal's centerline is numerically integrated along a bend curve (`open` for outward lean, `curl` for the rolled-back tip), then swept with cupping, edge flare, ruffles, and a ribbon **twist** so inner bud petals visibly wrap the heart - **Phyllotaxis** — all 46 petals are placed by the golden angle (137.5°) across 7 layers, producing the natural spiral bloom pattern - **Full plant anatomy** — curved tapered stem with thorns, compound leaves (3 serrated leaflets on a petiole), 5 drooping sepals, and the ovary hip - **Velvet shading** — `MeshPhysicalMaterial` sheen + grayscale vertex-color gradients, with 5 one-click color palettes (crimson, blush, ivory, coral, violet) - **Atmosphere** — cinematic intro camera sweep, soft shadows, falling petals, floating dust motes, gentle wind sway, and auto-orbiting that pauses while you drag
